  1. Two top 10 organizational prospects plus more? No thanks. For a starting pitcher controllable though 2019, that's about what I'd expect the cost to be. You'd have to put a lot more context around that starting pitcher for me to blindly say I'd give up Phillips and Ortiz. I'm not sure I'd do it for Wheeler.
  2. Fist of all we were talking in context of right a the deadline. Swarzak wasn't that. I don't in any way think of Swarzak as a needle mover type of trade. Did he put us over the top and pave the way to a playoff run? No, he didn't. That doesn't mean it was a bad trade, it just wasn't a significant trade. To that point, I don't think that Soria is significant either. Again, no issue with the trade and he makes the team better, no doubt. He doesn't change the landscape at all for me though. I don't think there was anywhere near the demand for him that there was for Britton.
  3. So essentially we dealt Medeiros and a lottery ticket for a year and a half of Soria, cash and they guy that we now get to protect in the rule 5 draft? Makes sense to me.
  4. Not sure what you are objecting to. Showing me all trades by all MLB teams says nothing about DS and his nature. I see no history or indication that says DS is going to be pushed into a trade just because of a deadline. Sure, if the right guy falls into their lap at the deadline then I'm sure he will make that call but typically that will be a smaller move like Jeffress was last year. The tendency is for teams to overpay right at the deadline and I just don't see DS getting involved in a bidding war because said deadline is looming. Frankly that is simply correct.
  5. I would be shocked if we didn't grab someone, and when the dust settles I suspect Saladino will be the primary backup at SS/2b with Miller and possibly Villar or Perez gone. I wouldn't be shocked at all. We saw this play out very similarly last trade deadline and after the Yelich/Cain acquisitions. DS isn't going to overpay for anyone under any circumstances. We might get Swarzak/Walker level moves for extra rule 5 pieces but the longer this goes the more likely that there isn't a major acquisition.
  6. Exactly. Is everyone forgetting last year? Brewers tried to hang in the race post Nelson injury with a rotation of Anderson, Davies, Woodruff, and Suter which was basically a bullpen day, and Wilkerson. Jeffress was even used as a starter one game. Woodruff, after a promising start, faltered in his last 3 or 4 starts. Hey Woodruff and Peralta may indeed have great futures, but counting on them in the heat of a race when there are affordable veterans makes no sense. I think the offense going into hibernation had a little something to do with the failures of last year as well. Having said that, I don't think anyone has suggested that Happ shouldn't be a target at the right price. If the Yankees want to overpay for him, then let them. I'm confident DS has his price and he won't overextend for a marginal piece like Happ.
  7. Well yeah, but couldn't you say the same about our system except we have less upside.
  8. If the reports are true and the Padres are willing to part with a couple of their top ten (outside of Tatis and Gore) they can easily beat anything we can propose short of including Hiura AND Burnes (and probably even then). I doubt we see Archer in a Brewers uni.
  9. Nothing. He was double switched for a pitcher in a blowout game.
  10. That is about as certain as you're gonna get that "standing pat" is not gonna happen. My first blush reaction was just the opposite.
