  1. He also had a spectacular 2nd half of '08...some scout(s) may feel he "turned the corner", and who knows, it is possible, though unlikely. My goodness, if you think Kendall is going to catch 140 games again, this guy would be a nice backup (as would Vinny). Cheap and able to play elsewhere.
  2. I don't see the Brewers having enough high quality guys to leave any high ceiling guys unprotected, especially with all the FA's they have. I'd be surprised if they did not have a spot or two open on the 40 for the Rule 5.
  3. Even if Hall only projects as "average", he had a 900 OPS a couple years ago, meaning he's not a bad bet at all to have a 800 OPS either in '09 or '10. That type of upside is what you'd never get from Craig Counsell, but Hall provides.
  4. vlad has never had any OBP skills...those guys tend to age terribly. His natural skills that allow him to hit balls in the dirt and at the eyes will diminish quickly.
  5. The fact he can catch makes him appealing as a 25th man. Could be a late bloomer, but his lack of athleticness (7 steals, 15 CS's) tells me he is a low ceiling guy. I would assume they are making an agreement with him to sign a minor league deal when he is sent down, hoping he clears waivers next time.
  6. Trade young arms you have signed to friendly long-term deals? Nope. \ Jackson would be the guy to go after.
  7. 13th of 25 is exactly in the middle, and never mind 5 teams used platoons or several players to cover one spot. There may be a few teams that can't afford him, or do not like his style (the Twins fit both counts), but he'd make 12-15 teams better, and he has the ceiling to improve even more than that. Heck, if the Crew finds a home for JJ, I'd probably prefer at least a couple months of Hall to burning a pre-arby/free agency season of Alcides.
  8. DC could together a package for Prince w/o Ryan Z, but the Crew would not have to take it. Considering Prince is 24 and has 3 years left until FA, the Crew won't take less than a bonafide star or top prospect for him.
  9. Briggs, I've mentioned this possibility, but only if MA would do it, probably to provide cheap programming for a network. There's no way they'd approve AAA ball for Warner Park, or anywhere else in Madison. It'd involve a new park or a complete remodel.
  10. PAP basically penalizes good pitchers who give you 6-8 innings. It fails to do much about the occasional 137 pitch outing, but it sure hurts the guy who gives you 112 every 5th day. It's as worthless as BA, and that's saying something.
  11. Because SS's do not hit as a rule. Hall, with his pop and his career numbers, still has value there. Guys that make $6-7M have no value as utility guys.
  12. I don't even know his name, but the black bald guy who played David's boyfriend on Six Feet Under may be the most attractive man on the planet. Maybe I shared too much.
  13. Seems awful "forced" to me. Also, if you're going to trade Prince, I see at least one "name" player coming back in return. I literally made it up in 5 seconds, but Prince for Cano, Cabrera, and Hughes makes as much sense to me as any other deal. It might need some balance, but overall, it seems close.
  14. His offense plays pretty well as a SS, and not too bad as a 2B. He's got value.
  15. 2B are usually very good athletes, most C's are not.
  16. Pierre has value, but none with that contract, and really, none as a starting CF at this stage. As a $1M a year reserve, I like him. That said, he's highly overpaid and has oodles of negative value.
  17. Fielder makes no sense for them, they have an in-house replacement. Jacobs will be dealt soon, they already had a deal with KC fall apart.
  18. If I go to the new blog and then click sports, I get it fine. Yet my old bookmark, which is the same URL, still takes me to the old site, which never really fully loads. Seems a bit clumsy, like a story or entry might be easy to overlook.
  19. Apparently, that's why it hasn't loaded for me since about 10PM last night.
  20. Kotsay is damaged goods at this point. He's nice depth, but he's very unlikely to ever get 500 AB's again. Garret Anderson in CF? I did not think he could remotely play CF anymore.
  21. I agree, if they do not want Cameron back, they don't pick up the option. Dejesus is available at far less money, Crisp is too, and let's face it, supposedly only NYY and MIL called him last year. Teams that like him may not be able to afford him, and vice versa.
  22. Heck, offer to sleep on an air mattress and pay rent and you'll probably have many players want you as a roomie.
  23. The Point brewery is there. If you're a hungry guy, you can eat at Golden Corral the entire time.
  24. Paul, this is common when they are fixing a road...as stated, they do it to protect the tar/black stuff, as well as people's cars. When you see people doing this, they often have tp on a stick that one or two people are doing while the rest are working on putting the tar down.
  25. Span is cheap and was very good in '08, well above his career numbers. The Twins have little interest in dealing him anyway, they are supposedly looking to move Cuddyear or young.
