  1. The irony is that K concerns are especially meaningless for the #1 spot...it makes no difference for the 1st PA of the game, and that spot is as unlikely as any to make productive outs, as it is not an RBI spot. Worrying about K's from that spot is one of those cliches that won't go away.
  2. Gwynn would be a weak link on offense versus a LHP, end of story. Sometimes, you take that risk.
  3. To be blunt, I'm not afraid of Eyre or Happ, though I think Scott is a pretty solid arm. Compared to having to face Marmol or Wood (or Lidge, for that matter), I'll take my chances with those fellas. It's all but 8 innings versus 9 playing PHIL, as Lidgfe has been dominant at levels unseen since the "Game Over" days of Gagne.
  4. You can change the roster after each series...and I think you can even make a move during the series, but only if the player is going to be out the rest of the postseason...the Yankees did this with Clemens a year or two ago. And unless Corey is banged up, Nelson was added as a PH, not as a RF option. The playoffs are not the place to trot a rookie out.
  5. However, his slump has been even worse than Braun's, and Ryan's can be directly traced to his muscle problem. Also, Dale said the other day that "Corey at 80% ios better than anyone else we have", and then said, "Not that he's hurt". That seems like an odd thing to say, though at the time, I dismissed it as him talking about Ryan "discreetly". Braun has seemed unaffected in LF and on the bases as well, and he admits he's not 100%.
  6. Riske actually pitched fine, minus the two occasions when he was trying to pitch through pain/injury. Gagne finished strong, but when he got hit, got hit hard. Eric was so inconsistent, you could say he was consistently inconsistent.
  7. I made a note on this over at Ramblings. Corey has been off the charts bad since 9/6...so bad it is hard to believe he's healthy.
  8. MJL just proved my theory of how stupid the average person is. Talk about clueless.
  9. The whole bullpen has been horrible. This is a myth that needs to die. It goes along perfectly with my belief that most people know little about which they speak. That's why I'm a contrarian, and whatever the masses believe (the market is horrible, time to get out, it's a "crisis") is undoubtedly the opposite of what one should do (market up 360 as I type). While it's an idea based on a sitcom episode, I find it frighteningly accurate.
  10. I just heard the same thing about the cap gains tax on CNBC. I am a believer in the consumption tax, that all income, savings, and investment returns should be tax free. Pay as you go.
  11. They'll go to 2 wildcards when they add 2 more teams, making 4 divisions of 4 in each league. It'll probably happen sooner than you think. The game is peaking, so it makes sense. I would expect to hear about a "commission" soon.
  12. Many have pointed out the pressure on the Crew is minimal right now. If Hart was affected by the expectations of being an all-star and in the race, he's an excellent bet to relax and break out. I harken back to the forecaster that said whenever a player's numbers fall greatly, you almost always find out later an injury was involved. Braun has admitted his, and while Dale said Corey was at 80%, he later said he was just making an example...time will tell. He hasn't ran much either of late, and looked to be laboring the other day when he scored (I think it was from 1B on a double) and did not look himself.
  13. If you can time the market, you're one of the very few. Considering how few pros can do it, I don't even try.
  14. I'm just working tomorrow morning. If I was the OP, I'd DVR it.
  15. Well, he's been a bottom of the rotation guy for several years. You can argue that's all he's expected to provide. It does make young pitching extremely valuable though. that's why the idea of the Giants giving up Cain seems ridiculous.
  16. Thanks Colby. Other than the blurb that said he projects as a big league backup that has since been credited to me, I've never heard anything about his D. Green seems like a Loretta type, limited skills, but he can play. I have to include Jeffress in my personal top 5, as he's kept his nose clean all year. He still may well tumble, as he's young and immature, but you can't overlook a #1 ceiling forever.
  17. You can't just ignore defense. Gwynn is the backup CF, as not only hasn't Hart played an inning in CF this year, Dillon or Nelson would be vastly below average in RF.
  18. I like Garland a ton more than Lohse. That said, Lohse's money is about right, but the length is my issue. He's not good enough to be written in ink onto your 2012 payroll.
  19. I very much doubt Heether can play a major league quality SS. He may get a chance if an injury occurs, but the odds of the Crew clearing a spot for a AAA utility IF seems rather remote.
  20. Big difference between 10 years and 40+. If you're 10 years away from retirement, I'd say a good amount would probably be 40-50% in the market.
  21. 14188, per Adam M.
  22. I see them exercising Craig's option. Alfredo doesn't do much except play lots of positions at a below average clip. If memory serves, his OBP barely cracks .300 much of the time.
  23. It's very rare for players to move to more difficult spots. Green has played 2B, but it is odd they moved him if he was ok there. Needless to say, he's not a SS.
  24. You're 401K should be for your retirement, hence the 40+ years away part. Short-term savings should be nowhere near stocks.
