  1. Hopefully TPlush put in a good word for us
  2. 1 vs. 8 matchup does nothing to help determine a champion and only increases the chance that an inferior team will be named champion because of the randomness of an individual game. I cannot see the NCAA going to a 6 team playoff. If your going to expand the playoffs by a round, the NCAA will want the maximum number of games/dollars possible. I would prefer the 8-team playoff. The power 5 conference champions, the best non-power 5 conference team, and 2 wild card teams. If a team wins three games in a row beating all top 8 teams, are they really inferior?
  3. With the way things ended, I can't imagine wanting Luc back would be due to nostalgia. Lucroy has been a very good offensive catcher every year minus the beggining of last year. Maybe I just want to have player in the lineup that doesn't strike out and has a good apporach at the plate, I don't know. I just think what he brings fits what the Brewers are missing offensively.
  4. That just might do it for his time as a Packer...he's had a good career, but his legs/body is at the point where he can't be relied on to stay on the field and his contract is too rich to keep him around as a backup. I think it'd be a 3.2Million dollar cap hit, but they'd save $5M plus on his 2018 salary on a guy who won't be ready to play anywhere close to the start of next season. Tons of work to be done on this roster heading into 2018...Getting Rodgers back healthy drastically improves the outlook, but there are glaring warts and a lack of quality depth throughout. I would expect Bulaga to be available by the regular season. Not sure if he's worth cutting because there won't be a lot of money saved if you include signing someone to replace Bulaga.
  5. I just feel that this team has enough peices on defense to be much better than where they are currently. With Daniels, Clark, Perry, Martinez, Burnett, HHCD,J. Jones, & King, our defense has players. Then you see players like Heyward, Hyde, and Peppers having great years after they've left. At some point the realization is they players are not the problem. It's either the schemes or the player development in Green Bay. This team has exhausted enough high picks where it's time have an understanding that the players are not the issue.
  6. Diaz may be my favorite prospect in the Brewers system. That swing screams consistency, but it hasn't shown yet. Even in 2016 his first 50 games were pretty bad (and the rest of the year, he was our best prospect). For being 5'10" he has a ton of pop and he hits it where it's pitched. Like previous posters said, he has youth on his side. As much as the offense is in issue in the Carolina league, I think he and Trent Clark should repeat there. And like Clark, his numbers state he may be too patient at the plate (.222 BA/.334OBP). Diaz had 21 errors in just over 100 games played last year. I think it may be time to keep him at 2B full time. I think Diaz will put the pieces together in 2018 and be a consensus top 5 prospect in the Brewers system.
  7. One player I would poke around at: Howie Kendrick Kendrick - I may be a little biased as Howie has been one of my favorite players since he was a minor leaguer with the Angels, but Kendrick would fit in well with the Brewers for 2 years. His primary position has been 2nd base, but he can also play in left. Offensively, he doesn't strike out much and I think he's a perfect 2-hole hitter for this team. His approach is to all fields. *Also, I know the relationship didn't end on the best terms, but can Lucroy come back to the Crew?
  8. Jungmann doesn't have near the stuff that Wade Davis has. He may be a bullpen option, but I think he would be relagated to the long relief spot.
  9. At this point, anything positive regardless of sample size is a step in the right direction.
  10. Hard to have any expectations with Lara at this point. He's young, but he has not shown an ounce of improvement. Consider it a loss. Any type of production is a bonus.
  11. I agree that the Brewers should wait another year to see if he can put together a full year. Only downside is if he does put together a full season, it will only increase the $ on his next contract. If you lock him up now and he produces, you will be sitting with great value.
  12. One big difference is the strikeouts. Villar had 132Ks in 436 PAs whereas Gordon had 93Ks in 695 PAs.
  13. I was just at the home opener and the Portland game and there is nothing that makes it memorable (maybe it was the beers). The games were great, but for all I knew I could have been at the La Crosse Center. The lack of success overall plus the cookie-cutter style arena leaves very little to be missed about the Bradley Center. The new stadium looks pretty awesome, so hopefully they can build a team around Giannnis to create that nostalgia.
  14. 2016 self? Yes. I think Villar hit a lot better from August on. The stats say so... I sensed that Counsell gave up on him When the Brewers acquired Walker I said it was more or less the end of Villar's season. It was. That along with the CF experiment and Phillips performing well ended Villar's year. Stearns has seen and knows Villar better than anyone in baseball (going back to the HOU days). He obviously believed in him enough to try to sign him to an extension. I would be pretty surprised if he isn't starting on opening day. Too much potential to give up this quickly.
  15. I can't see the Yankees trading Tanaka, especially the way he pitched in the playoffs. Better question: does Tanaka opt out & if so, do the Yankees pay even more to retain him (a la ARod & CC years ago)?? IMO he'd be stupid not to opt out. Might as well add on 50 million and a couple years to the deal. It's a tough call for the Yankees because they've been burned on so many of the massive contracts they've handed out, but I think they will have to. Their rotation isn't anyting too special (minus Severino), and I think their farm pitching may be another year away.
  16. I can't see the Yankees trading Tanaka, especially the way he pitched in the playoffs.
  17. Tom‏ @Haudricourt Sogard said no guarantees were made about playing time at 2B or anywhere else but is confident he will still be a factor on team. 3:17 PM - 26 Oct 2017
  18. Agreed, not sure how Bledsoe would be an upgrade over Brogden. Brogdon doesn't demand the ball, can hit the three, can create if need be, and can play defense. He's exactly the PG you need with Giannis. Suns have no leverage, so give them a pick and a supporting cast member or two, or move on.
  19. I don't get why Schwarber has any major value at all. He wasn't an elite prospect, he can't hit a lick, is so-so at getting on base, can't steal a bag and can't play defense. He's got one tool, some pop. I don't understand reports that the Cubs traded Torres over Schwarber for Chapman, if true. And I agree if Schwarber is worth anything at all, Broxton should be too. If you could get a left-handed DH that can put up a .250/.370 line with 40-45 HR...isn't that more valuable than Broxton and probably Aguilar? Aguilar is on the wrong side of the platoon and 3 years older...and does not have the HR power or on-base ability of Schwarber if Schwarber is right. Not much more valuable than a .250/.350 line with 25HR/25 SB's that isn't a huge liability on defense.
  20. Especially for a player that throws up to 85% fastball. Once he loses 2-3 mph, he may need to adjust the way he pitches. Once that happens, there is no telling what kind of pitcher he will be. I would be wary of him beyond 2 years.
  21. I think Peralta will be a rotational piece, with a floor of being a reliever. He should be given every opportunity to be a SP at this point. Other reliever options would be Houser, Diplan, Pennington, Supak. I think our bullpen will be a huge strength in a couple years.
  22. Match that with his previous knee issues, I can't imagine his stock is high at all. But I guess with a couple of teams bidding for him, the price will be raised up a bit. Still, not worthy of putting Maker in this trade imo. Some mix and match of Delly, Tele, Moose, Henson, Vaughn, and a pick would be my cap for a trade.
  23. For me, Stokes had the most surprising offensive numbers in the minors. In a league that is known to be extremely hitter-friendly, Stokes his 14HR in 100 games played in A+. Finished the year with 20HR and 30SB, certainly numbers that grab your attention. Yet another OF prospect, so it's really hard to see his future with the Brewers. He reminds me of Jean Segura with more pop (and strikeouts).
  24. Agreed. He will be 21 for all of next baseball season. He obviously has the plate discipline (maybe to a fault). He had 37SB/5CS last year. Those are pretty good attributes to start out with for a top of the order hitter. I believe he'll make a Monte Harrison-type jump in the next two years. The average and slugging will come with time/maturation. Along with what the organization did with Harrison, I think Clark should start next year in A+. With the logjam in the OF, there is no need to advance him to AA right now. Let him figure things out, and if he does, promote him to AA post all-star break.
  25. I was thinking that too. It's not "young" but certainly younger than most free agents. Also, not sure who the Jimnenz is that was mentioned. Probably Ubaldo. Not sure if they totally compare, though. I think he meant giving up players like Eloy Jimenez.
