  1. He play better defense at 3b than a lot of options being thrown around. I don't know if that means he can play 3b or if he simply can do a better job than the guys who can't.
  2. Yankee's honk, check. No one who types in broken text is a source. No matter if its private or not. A genuine source has to be a writer and a writer never stoops to that type of texting jargon. Let alone the "cash me outside" fighting words. This is a tool, a child and a fraud.
  3. The 2 IP wipe out stuff Hader does makes him special of course. That's not to say there are no other guys putting up silly numbers as a LH fireballer. I look at Antoine Kelly and I hope for Felipe Vazquez. That dude is also a monster. Kelly is regularly hitting 100 just like Vazquez but he needs that slider to improve. I'd love for him to be a starter but I'd have him LHRP 1 right now because of this.
  4. That's a split time C gig like most of the Milb Cs get. I'd still comfortably call him a C. I'd bump Fry and he'd be in the top 3.
  5. Mr. Juliano, what you've just written is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever read. At no point in your rambling, incoherent tweet were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone on the internet is now dumber for having read it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul. Fantastic. Side note, If I am reading this properly... If the Brewers do come down (drop asking price?) Which they (must) have to do (if they want a trade to get done?) You are looking at an offer of x y z For Hader and a lottery ticket bat How does dropping your price get you the best haul on a commodity, when that commodity is limited? Sure sounds like a Yankee homer who thinks everything in the Yankees system is all anyone should strive to get. Very "my stuffs gold and everyone else's stuff is crap" type logic. Easy answer to that. Yeah, you keep your "gold." We got the best haul. We still got Hader. Tell the Yankee's honk that MKE was closer to the WS in the last 2 years than the Yankees were. We have zero need to trade Hader unless we get the moon.
  6. Right but if he was a small tweak away on his secondary offerings his "god reached down and made his left arm a thunderbolt" arm talent would have put him in the top 10. He's an incredibly exciting talent to watch but he needs a lot more than polish on those secondary offerings. He's young, that's fine but let's just be honest about it. All the reports echo the same thing. Hose of an arm. Better FB control than you'd expect from a guy with his frame at this point. Slider has potential but isn't close to MLB ready. No other pitch. Right now he's got nasty velocity coming from the LH side. He's got an easy projection to the pen. Easy. Just like Hader and Peralta, you can't start on a FB alone. TOR/ace, let's get a 2nd plus pitch first. If he can plus plus FB and plus slider with location now we are on to something. Dream but don't overstate. He should be considered the #1 LHRP in the system today. Not that you push him into that role but system wide he's the best one and right now his profile puts his MLB expectation at LHRP.
  7. Trust me I know the SLG OPS difference. You were the one who pointed out AVG. As for Castellanos in LF. Yeah, so is Garcia Yelich and none play CF. None of them sub for Cain in CF. Playing a split OF/1b in an OF that's 3 corner OFs deep is one thing. Playing 3 OFs adequate starts at 2 positions is quite another. Pre Garcia sure, post Garcia no.
  8. I highly doubt MKE gets him where they got him if that was the case. Most reports state that he needs to create secondary pitches because they aren't close. His arm talent being the real deal is widely known. Guy's a freak. But he's basically FB only with a slider that needs a lot more than polish.
  9. There is no need for a middle ground. Even that guy is going to be quite expensive. Try looking at the lineup 1-8 instead of looking at what you expect from a 3B. Also don't use AVG. Moose hit .255 in MKE. As for the analogy. Playing Castellanos at 3b is exactly like TT drafting non-athletes on defense. Sure he technically can do it, but don't ask for anything better from him than being a body. If we also want to play that game it's like trying to hide Jabari Parker's defense. Well it's the truth. So... sorry that's a bummer? Which one of our OFs plays infield in that scenario though? Yelich is a GG LF, Cain no, Garcia doesn't and Castellanos shouldn't. Honestly, I think the whole Braun to 1b is just being done to get the most they can out of a bad situation. I highly doubt MKE wants to spend over 8 mil at 1B combined. It's a very easy position to platoon into a big offensive producer on the cheap. Why pay someone as a higher defensive spectrum position only to move them to a position that has next to no market value? If Smoak is on the team in 2021 I expect Braun gone and a run of the mill RH power 1b to platoon with him. Not a position MKE can afford to spend on. Castellanos is a stud as a batter. There's no doubting that. However, the guys complete garbage in the field. He's basically LF only. He's a terrible 3b and he's worse than Santana in RF. His defensive position is DH. He's been worse in the OF than JD Martinez.
  10. They couldn't afford Claudio. They were never getting him back. I really can't stand any fan base that gets rival focused. It's aiming low. Brewers can be better than the Cubs and still lose the division or win the division with no chance of contending for the WS. Neither of those outcomes have a silver lining to me. You win or you lose. At least we were better than the Cubs is the type of thing you lean on when your team is hopeless. There was a year GB lost to Chicago twice like that. 2007 GB was 13-3 and the Bears were 7-9. There's no saving grace in that. 7-9 is garbage no matter how you do it.
  11. 70 appearances in 2019. 52 1 ip for more. He also faced a very standard 60/40 split R to L in 2019. Career neither side is over 700 ops and the LHB have a considerably higher babip. (avg .030 higher, babip .055 higher) Guys been south of 3 ERA 4 years in a row and 7 of 9.
  12. BTW, cuz this has been bothering me. Kahle 5th (mostly due to DHing). Did he really DH an exorbitant amount with MKE? He got 1/3 of the AB of Fry and caught 1/3 of the innings. He got bumped to Carolina played 2 games and caught both. MKE isn't an AL team. He's basically been C only or am I missing something? Personally I have Fry at 1b/3b due to age but have Kahle in the top 3 Cs. He's 2 years younger.
  13. I hate this. I'd have paid that. He was a guy I really wanted. It's a touch higher than I wanted but it's right at the edge. I'd have bit the bullet on that one. Our pen is already Knebel not coming back to dominance away from being very suspect. Consider me in the minority if you wish but I don't care about the Cubs. I care about the Brewers. If the Brewers take care of the Brewers they'll take care of the Cubs. A sub 3 ERA SU man would have been real nice. We missed Jeffress being that guy QUITE A BIT last year.
  14. That's the part where we disagree. The 25-28 mil on Donaldson over the next 3 is pushing this team to the top of their spending capabilities. (if you assume they can't/won't blow past last year numbers) Seager's 18 19 15(vesting question) puts you 1 piece from the same mark. Guys are going to slip into arby and be worth their arby cost. Narvaez Hader are going to increase in cost and Braun's money will get eaten up quickly. I think either of those 3Bs pushes us right up against maxed out with little flexibility in the next 3 years. I don't see that gain being enough to offset the looming problems they have with the pitching staff that I don't see the farm being able to completely remedy until 2021 at the earliest. The pen right now is scary and the depth of starters is teetering on the edge as it currently sits. With the pen being where it is, pushing Suter and/or Peralta into the rotation would risk melt down in the early season. Just like last year and unlike 2018. I don't like that, not 1 bit. I don't think the gain Donaldson should provide at 3b is enough to allow for that level of weakness in our pitching staff. I don't think Seager moves the needle enough to be considered over scrub options. As I said, I believe there are thresholds in their metrics and gains beyond a certain point lose impact and come at a high financial cost. I believe they are constantly trying to walk a tight rope in a sweet spot where money wins impact all cross paths. They aren't exactly trying to be the BEST team in baseball. They are trying to be a playoff team with a combination of pieces that could steal a WS title. Basically, they are the Royals. It seems to reverberate all the way through the organization. The way they spend, the way they draft, the pieces they acquire. There's a type/expectation in the SP adds they make. Right now, from the looks of it the pitching staff depth is the soft part. That can be fixed, without giving up long term deals and without blocking anything the farm can add in 2021. It's the most flexible cost effective way and adding a big ticket 3b ties their hands enough that 2020 becomes murky and 2021 becomes farm dependent. I don't think that's the 3 year window idea they have.
  15. It's also logical that the guy rejected taking a pay cut only to realize on the market that all he's going to get is a pay cut. They should take the best offer and opportunity unless other forces are at play. Hurt feelings, ego and pride aren't acceptable forces. There are a number of forces that are quality of life choices that are acceptable monetary offsets but none of them have to do with the negotiation process. Players have over expected plenty of times and the MKE ship sailed, regardless of offer, when Smoak agreed. Thames could have been in the discussion for roughly the same amount and got stuck settling as he held out for more. You obviously want to handle this with tact, especially when you decline contracts on anyone you have any interest in bringing back. But you know all the angles that are likely going on. MKE states they want player x to take a pay cut. Agent says call their bluff. MKE declines option. It's all negotiation and plenty of people suck at it because they don't understand the market or their leverage. You see this everywhere and in my simple little life I have a number of examples of some company thinking it can swing its junk around and stand their ground only for them to lose horribly. Multiple contracts undercut and dismissed with the snap of a finger because some idiot didn't know his worth or leverage. Same deal here. DS seems to understand value better than just about anyone in the league. Players Agents and other teams. I'm sure a few agents thought they could get their players more and whiffed then settled for less or similar elsewhere. I just don't believe it has much to do with bad blood over MKE refusing to overpay guys very often. Reason being, that's a very dumb way to operate. I respect the agents and players too much to think they are that stupid and petty. Frankly if that is their rationale, I don't care. This is business. You want to get your feelings hurt by business you don't understand business. My own stance on it is that no GM in professional sports should operate in the off season with any shred of remorse or loyalty. Tact and decency never come off the table but loyalty and remorse do. It's about a number and only a number. Are you worth said number or not? That's it. Business elsewhere shows little remorse and in those situations you are talking about the livelihood of common folk and communities. If you offer Thames 4.5/1 and he turns his nose up at it, he can go make 4 mil elsewhere and be more than fine. He might even lose out because MKE embraced him and he got outside baseball money for being the character he is. Even then, he'll be just fine. I like the revolving door of value seeking. I appreciate seeing guys who MKE scooped cheap blowing up in MKE only to get monster deals elsewhere. It shows MKE is ahead of the curve. I didn't flinch at the arby declines and no one should have because DS knows his values and holds to them. Every guy signing elsewhere for less is a good sign. It means DS was right to decline and either he low balled them lower than the market did or they over expected and settled. MKE isn't a big payroll team. They can't afford to waste a mil here and a mil there. It adds up to 10 mil and that's a lot of waste in our budget and if MKE wants to contend they have to pile up value in every way possible. It's much harder to do that when you start in a hole. Paying fair market as a low payroll team isn't going to win you anything.
  16. I think MKE has enough to pull off a trade for a 3b if that's really the path they want to go. They could also afford a short term SP rental/1.5 year guy. The farm doesn't have a lot of ammo but they do have a few non-prospect prospects to trade. Turang is the prospect but Burnes Peralta could be of interest to a team that's 1 year into their rebuild. That's nothing to sneeze at. I really don't see a "big" move coming. MKE has done a lot of under the radar stuff this year already. Lauer Urias Narvaez has been a pretty impressive haul.
  17. See and I'm the complete opposite. I think all the moves to increase the bottom line depth signal that they know they can't simply replace Grandal and Moose. They are trying to gain in areas where they were poor to help cushion the blow of not having the same talent at the top. Really when you look at the raw numbers they are an adequate 3b away from being very similar (offensively) to where they were last year assuming no one pulls a Shaw or Aguilar on us. Grandal's loss paired with Narvaez is about a 30 point obp loss. Hiura is better than Moose so we aren't really replacing Moose at 3b. We are replacing half a year of Hiura and Shaw mashed together. Shaw was soo bad that those numbers aren't daunting to replace. Instead of being 3b plus with Moose they are 2b plus plus with Hiura. Right now, (again assuming they sign an adequate 3b to split time with Sogard) they are better than they were to start last year when they had Shaw Aguilar Moose in heavy rotation and worse than they were when they had Moose Grandal and Hiura playing together down the stretch. It's basically the same, but more consistent over the full 162. I continue to believe all the metrics/analytics MKE plays by is about thresholds. They are trying to get to a certain number as inexpensively as possible. They know at that number they will make the playoffs (or be right on the edge of them) year in and year out. A lot of people want an all in and I'm sure MKE would love to do it too, but it takes the right guy on the right deal to allow for a big push that isn't fraught with risk on a level of cap implosion. DS has even hinted at this in a quote someone posted in December. It seemed like he wanted Moose back but the deal got too "robust." That the new plan was to fortify the team with small incremental upgrades to get to the same place they were before. We are run by an adaptable group of genius'. If one door closes they open another one. They take the path of least resistance (risk) to their goals. Stupid aside but it's true, I play in very deep dynasty FF leagues and the only guys I respect at all in those leagues are the guys who are able to alter their path as many times as it takes to get to where they are going. Year in and year out, different way. Plan A B C D E F all the way to Z. MKE does that on the largest stage. They deserve our trust in how they are piecing this together. This team AS IT SITS is very close to where it was last year offensively. Urias coming of age and using his contact tool to infuse a solid OBP bump over Arcia puts this team right on its marks. Cain rebounding to a 360 obp would do the same. (and not only was he hurt but his plate discipline was garbage last year). Garcia ticks up at all and that's another way to get the gap that's currently left. Sogard being what he was in 2017 and 2019 would absolutely do the trick by itself as well. That's 4 possible gain spots. There are areas where MKE has already gained. The depth is stronger than Perez Saladino Spangs Aguilar with 1 adequate 3b addition. I'll say it again, I have next to ZERO concern about 3b right now. The pitching can not flame out the way it did early last year. They need more arm depth. Easiest path to that is investing in the pen. Donaldson would be huge risk (age) and huge money. Not needed, it's risk laden overkill. Many options would be fine if they are cheap. Holt's OBP would do the trick just fine. Flores if the knees check out would do the trick just fine. Frazier would be fine but I wonder the cost. Seager Lowrie are more than enough but come with questions about how their overpaid deals are balanced out. The depth in MKE is very solid. The floor is up. There is upside talent on top of that. Arms depth is the big question, not 3b. Pointing at 3b over and over is thinking far too linear.
  18. I love how people keep assuming MKE needed to pay bigger arby number to avoid sour grapes feelings by the players forcing them to sign elsewhere. You're telling me you are going to pass the best offer on the table because they didn't offer you more and you feel disrespected? Please. How petty do you think these little guys are? Playing baseball in the MLB is the same no matter the city. If one city offers you a 5/1 prove it and another offers you a 4/1 prove it, you better have family ties, value venue stability (which works against them leaving MKE) or something pretty legitimate forcing you away from the 5/1 prove it. Players don't just give up 1 mil over hurt feelings that they didn't get 6.5/1. As for Nelson, he went for the best offer. MKE didn't wrong him in any way by keeping him around when he was rehabbing and paying him quite well while recovering. He looks done. MKE could think he's done. It's a terrible injury to rebound from and this deal could be a 1 and done oops for Nelson, and Nelson could still have something left in the tank later on down the road. It's a long long road back from that shoulder he injured. I'd be stunned if this deal is a big win for the Dodgers. It's either a cheap flop or it's likely a push. Does anyone really think he's seeing year 2 at 10 mil? I also wouldn't be surprised if Nelson stays healthy and shows he's got something left in the tank when he's 34-35 before age catches up to him completely. Last year, he didn't seem close to back and he really has to take the long road back to what he was or figure out a new way to use what he has. That injury changed him.
  19. "Buck up, Karen." Get her a Nats cap? My sisters kid went through a front runner phase. It was annoying, I didn't kill him. We got over it. I mean the kid goes to a Brewers game vs the Nats in a Nats cap and a Brewers Thames jersey it's not like MKE is going to welcome him back poorly. Kinda odd that the Nats have the 1b platoon I originally hoped for. I'm fine with where MKE is at but they thought Thames was over paid and turns out he was by 2.5 mil.
  20. My old guys comment was directed at Aguilar, Hummel and to a lesser extent Wilson. I also said high bb AND high K guys. Emphasis on the K. I love OBP every bit as much as you but when a guy is K'ing over 100 times in under 500 AB (age advanced in AA) I don't see that as reflective of discipline. I see it as looking for something specific and taking everything else. Strike or not. Grisham also had some of that in his profile, however Grisham was always young for his level. I'm all for the interesting story that Andrews is but he's more Suter than Hader. He's a junk ball guy. He's an odd short guy arm slot and most feel he's more defensive replacement CF and emergency pinch hitter than he is an MLB bat, there really isn't any power there. If you wanted to go defensive CF + Suter I wouldn't complain and that's still interesting but Hader is a totally different beast. Ashby Sunitsch you are just being too cute with that ranking. Defend it all you want but your emphasis on BBs is where this goes off the rails. Ashby has a lower whip than Sunitsch despite walking considerably more batters. That's going to age better and should be seen as better currently. Sunitsch is already getting hit. Ashby is not getting hit, he's just a bit wild. Really makes Sunitsch seem more 4A and Ashby young than anything else. I also want to hear back on the Cheesehead question. How are you not a Barker fan? I think he's the forgotten guy in the AAA pen who could be in the MKE shuttle this year. You don't like him? He was light out last year and seems to fit your type.
  21. 5 in the league in slugging and 9th in OPS. Average was solid. It's more about getting a guy who is nearly 2 years old for his level a chance to catch up. 1b 3b is very thin in the system as well.
  22. He shouldn't be one anymore. He's already age advanced and behind not only Feliciano but Henry and Kahle (who got bumped past him at years end). Open the path for a kid and see if he can stick at 1b or 3b. He's going to be a very old catcher if they keep on this path by the time he gets to the bigs. Clancy, what is your fascination with guys who don't swing? High K High BB power guys seem to be your vice. Also seems to benefit them if they are playing at a level where they are older than their competition. After Grisham got promoted to AAA the bats in Biloxi were boring. You seem to like half of them and they all seem like AAAA guys at this point. Also how is Andrews like Hader?
  23. He's been pretty pedestrian until last year. He's getting paid off last year though. I'm ok with not getting him but if the price comes down from his 5.5 mil per on everyone else I sure hope we get active in the RP market.
  24. As stated I'd have beat it by 1 mil.
  25. He fits very well. However, being a 10 HR guy (if he played a full season of ABs) doesn't really wow anyone. He's hasn't been very good at 3b when given a lot of usage there. Super utility but really this guy is the market inefficiency. Light hitting AVG OBP guy who is defensively neutral everywhere but 2b. I mean everywhere. However, he's not the type you lock up long term unless you can get him at laughably low price tag. He's the type you plug in at 3b for this year because currently they are low on OBP from Grandal and if Cain doesn't rebound the team OBP will surely drop about 30 points. He fixes that. He's a stop gap though and it has nothing to do with Erceg. 2021 free agency 3b will likely be revisited and you don't need a guy like Holt kicking around at 4.5 mil especially since I'm sure you could sign him 4.5/1 for each of the next 3 years (one at a time) if you wanted to. We had 392 AB from Perez Spangs and Saladino. If Arcia lost 200 ABs and Urias/Holt/Sogard were taking up the 1200 AB that Hiura Shaw Arcia Spangs Saladino and Perez took up MKE would more than make up the lost production at 3b. Adequate results at 3b and 600 upgraded ABs at SS and depth would do the trick. The commitment to Holt is just too aggressive. Asdrubal just got 2.5/1. Holt isn't topping 3/1.
