    Because they do things like throw away close to 450 PAs on McCutchen, Tellez and Taylor who have a collective OPS of around .600.

    Kind of incredible to believe the Brewers had both Nelson Cruz and Khris Davis in their system, plus traded them both in separate deals for an underwhelming collection of players: Kevin Mench (441 PAs with Mil.), Laynce Nix (61 PAs), Jacob Nottingham (99 PAs), Bubba Derby (never made majors). They did get Coco Cordero who was an All Star in his single full season with Milwaukee, but maybe could’ve gotten him straight up for Carlos Lee. Fascinating stuff .

    I wouldn’t be surprised if Gray goes on the DL after this start with an injury.

    There are a lot of retreads so one never knows for sure which is why I use the word “potentially” Likewise, the annals of baseball are also littered with managers who got just one opportunity. Therefore it’s a pretty subjective argument to say that a person who gets one opportunity isn’t good at what they do.

    Their roster is too thin, without options to turn to so a slap hitter like Frelick is 4th on the team in PAs. Chourio and Dunn have shown they’re not ready for the jump from AA to the majors. Because Hoskins cannot run or play a strong 1B they keep giving Bauers ABs, and in a Yelich injury and it all makes sense why they suddenly can’t score

    Ross didn’t get fired for a whole month after the Cubs season ended, whereas Nevin in LAA, Kapler in SF, Melvin in SD and Showalter in NYM were let go immediately after their team’s season ended. That’s pretty strong evidence the Cubs were planning on rolling with Ross in ‘24. In fact, on October 8 2024 the Cubs President of Baseball Ops stated Ross was returning. So we DO know Ross was keeping his job otherwise. Like I said Counsell’s goal was to sell himself to the highest bidder, he would have known taking the Cubs offer was going to wind up getting Ross fired when he otherwise would’ve kept his job for ‘24, and potentially ending his career as an mlb manager, but that awkwardness didn’t matter in light of all that money.

    No it’s not silly. Ross wasn’t otherwise getting fired. It’s a small group, and MLB manager jobs are kind of hard to get. Who knows maybe Ross never gets another crack at it. You would be being naive if you didn’t believe Counsell knew all those points. Yet, he could’ve stood up for his fellow manager’s career and still reset the market for manager salaries with another team. But ultimately the awkwardness of taking a position that wasn’t open, and getting a fellow manager fired as a result was outweighed by the 40 million dollar guarantee.

    You mean David Ross? One of those other managers who Counsell ever so slyly slipped a knife into his back knowing that to get his big payday, Ross’s head would also roll as collateral damage.

    The umpires are being more strict in glove rules this year. Last week a Cubs pitcher had to change gloves in the exact same situation after using it the night before the following day the umps claimed the white from an American flag logo was against the rules and required a change

    Come on. Uribe has an elite arm, that’s why he pitched less than 90 pro innings in the minors between signing at 18 and getting called up to the majors. No team is just going to flush talent like that, because a slap fest cleared the benches. Uribe could obviously use some finishing school in order to get his command back to passable. (A nearly 1:1 walk to strike out ratio when he throws 100mph isn’t good) and allows the big league team to manage the inevitable suspensions to a thin pitching staff.

    Bauers is 5 for his last 18 with a double, a homerun and plays good defense at first. Oliver Dunn doesn’t bring anything to the table, neither does Owen Miller but for his ability to play OF in a pinch. One of them is likely demoted since they hardly play anyways

    Under .200 BA, under .600 OPS, and striking out just a clip shy of 33%. Clearly not quite ready for prime time did the Brewers have better options to replace him on the roster? What’s easier on his psyche: a demotion to AAA or letting his numbers crater at the majors and he moves into more of a platoon role

    Tough break but he’s never been healthy. The Brewers have had him 3 years in total and cumulatively he’s cracked just 200 innings. Losing Gutierrez kind of stings now, with the need for arms

    Out of respect for the moderators this I’ll be my last post on the subject. Not a double standard at all, rather times/values change. Julio Urias isn’t currently in the league either. It’s not unlike when in the mid-90s Brett Favre had an opioid addiction and was getting drugs without a prescription. If it was 2024 they would’ve suspended him for drug abuse and heads would’ve rolled within the organization for anyone supplying a player with opioids absent prescription, and those who knew and didn’t say anything .

    I don’t think it’s accurate to say he’s been cleared. Regardless sexual violence or even alleged sexual violence is bad for a corporation’s branding and that’s the long and short of why Bauer is not rostered n the major leagues.

    On Sunday when they have the kids meet the Brewers players on the field would you want your young child running out to the mound to have a chat with Trevor Bauer? That most people would rather not is the reason he remains out of MLB. it has nothing to do with a bad boy image it’s the bad human image

    Jansen Junk, McKendry, the start calling around to see what depth people are in AAA which they could get by offering a major-league deal. With three healthy pitchers at this point, they’re gonna need people just to give them 4 innings a game. The minor-league shuttle system is going to get burned out.

    I’ll go there. I liked the 90s uniforms they wore at the end of the County Stadium era. They had piping, a throw back font style, an M on the hat and Milwaukee across the front of the road unis. That being said the Brewers have a branding problem: numerous different uniform styles, color schemes, mascots over the last 30 years. You cant have a heritage when you don’t know who you are. Why are the Yankees, Boston and Cub hats/unis etc iconic - because they haven’t changed them much at all in generations.

    I do like that Arenado forced his way out of Colorado because they didn’t win. Then he comes to St. Louis, where they had some regular season success initially but are now seemingly an also ran team due to a lack of quality pitching

    Yeah, free agency year. He will go 90R 25HR 90 RBI, hit .280 and get a 140 million dollar guarantee somewhere else over the off season.

    They have to teach him how to be more consistent in changing speeds and hitting his spots. I saw him pitch in Arizona and it was the same thing first inning was mostly 93mph swifties were very hittable, then he started landing breaking balls in the zone and changing speeds and he actually pitcherd quite well.
