  1. Isn’t that against the rules in MLB? I thought there was something in the rules somewhere that if an agreement is in place, it must be submitted to the commissioner’s office right away and can’t be withheld.
  2. I’m with you on that. He needs to go. Sorry, but what do you expect out of a lawyer as commissioner? He’s going to twist the truth, use threatening tactics, find any way he can to discredit the other party, and use intimidation and coercion to get exactly what he wants instead of actually doing any type of real bargaining.
  3. Lutz held his own in A+ as a 20 year old. He has some serious pop that hasn’t exactly shown up in games completely yet and he still has plenty of room to grow and develop. He also has a cannon for an arm in the outfield. Lutz is one of those guys you hold onto and wait on because he’s so young and already showing pretty well in the minor leagues. He’s one of those breakout candidates that could shoot up prospect boards once it clicks for him. I could see him having his breakout season this year, hitting .280 with 25 homers and finishing the year in AAA. He’s one of those special talents you don’t just give away. I may be a little higher on Lutz than others, but don’t be surprised to see him in the top 100 prospect list by mid season 2020. He might even jump Turang.
  4. Andujar is Ryan Braun bad at third base. I don’t think he’s the answer here. Both of those trades are bad in my opinion. I don’t see any way that is the best a team will offer for Hader. If any team thinks that’s what it takes for the best reliever in the game for 4 years of control, they shouldn’t even be negotiating with Stearns. That would be such a gross trade it’s not even funny. If that’s truly all we can get, hold onto Hader until the deadline or next offseason and revisit.
  5. Thank you for putting this information together for us! Essentially, we have a number 2, 2 number 3’s, a 4, and Lindblom as it sits. I do think that Lauer has the makings of being a number 2 starter. Hopefully he can take that step forward for us as early as this season.
  6. Why do people want to go all in on a 2 year run with Thor instead of getting a haul of young talent and having a lengthy window instead of selling off after 1 and 1/2 or 2 years? I would rather get a headliner like McNeil that you’ll have for 5 years and build a lengthy window instead of putting all our eggs in one basket on a 2 year run and that’s it. McNeil Cain/Urias Yelich Hiura Narvaez Garcia Braun Urias/Cain P And to think we would have our 1-5 locked up for at least 3 years. Plus McNeil, Hiura, Urias, Woodruff, and Lauer controlled beyond that. Gives plenty of time for other moves and draft picks to make their way up and be long time contributors as well. I know building a lengthy competitive window isn’t something we are used to, but why destroy our chance of having that when it’s the first time we can actually build a true long time window of being competitive? If you want an ace, work on getting Severino then for 4 years. But Thor as the headliner for 2 years? No thank you. At least if we aren’t doing anything 2 years from now, Yelich and Severino can be moved and we wouldn’t even need to rebuild. If you get Thor and ride it out for 2 years, you only have 1 year of going for it with Yelich or trading him off and only netting the return from him and that’s it. Severino would make way more sense in my opinion.
  7. I don’t see how the Yankees could get it done either. They would need to include both Deivi Garcia and Jasson Dominguez just for the start of the package. But they don’t really have much else that would really interest me off of their MLB roster that’s realistic in a trade like this. It would be fantastic if they could somehow get Gleyber Torres though. I wouldn’t totally rule it out if they could pull off a massive trade like that. There would be more pieces involved on both sides to work that out though. Yankees would definitely include Happ to help bring the price down. There would be more to the trade, but something like that. I really don’t see us lining up on a trade unless someone like Torres, Judge, or Severino (if he is fully healthy) is part of the return. I just don’t see Hader being moved unless an All-Star caliber player is coming back in the deal that helps in 2020, not multiple years down the road. You’re stepping up if you want the most dominant reliever in the game for 4 years for so cheap who arguably had one of the most dominant 2+ year stretches for a reliever the game has seen. It won’t be for a bunch of scraps.
  8. Wonder if the Brewers are trying to tack on a year or two of club options and Garcia wants 0 or 1 instead? That would be my guess. If they are that close to getting it done and something is holding it back from being completed, it’s probably coming down to something like that on the backend of the deal.
  9. Here’s a little bit of a different trade with the Dodgers: Dodgers Receive: LHP Josh Hader Brewers Receive: 3B Justin Turner OF Alex Verdugo C Keibert Ruiz 3B/1B Edwin Rios The Brewers fill their void at third base by bringing in Turner and putting him behind Yelich in the order. Verdugo comes over with 5 (or 6?) years of control and is Braun’s replacement in the outfield for years to come. C Keibert Ruiz comes over and is hopefully the catcher of the future for Milwaukee. Edwin Rios is arguably MLB ready and could possibly be the first baseman for us this season. I think this is a creative way of the Dodgers getting out of Turner’s contract (which they wanted to do earlier in the offseason I know), giving us our big bat behind Yelich, we bring in a highly regarded young outfielder from a team that is already crowded in the outfield, a great young catcher on the cusp of the MLB who is also blocked by a top prospect, and a third base/first base guy who is ready to contribute at the big league level. This is a way that the Dodgers can keep their top 2 prospects while moving ones that are already blocked by all-star talents already on their roster. I do hold out hope for someone like Lux in a return, but a package like this would probably be enough for me to pull the trigger. Thoughts?
  10. Yes, Castellanos bat would be great for this lineup, but I can't help thinking of those Brewers + Rendon rumors we heard a day or two ago. Perhaps DS has a surprise left in him. Donaldson could very well be that middle of the order bat, and he just so happens to play very solid defense as well. Rendon would of made this lineup elite. But yes, Castellanos would be a great fit. I don’t want to go down that road with Donaldson though. I think he’s one of those guys who is going to decline FAST and I have absolutely no interest in going 4 years. Probably not even 3. 2, I would. If Garcia is brought in, it really only leaves third base (or possibly first) as a big glaring need. The Dodgers just make too much sense as a trade partner this offseason. Not just for Hader, but for us bringing someone in like Justin Turner for one year and then reassessing third base next offseason. Turner would be that bat to plug into the cleanup spot.
  11. I guess things can change, but Counsell has said that Braun won't be the everyday 1B un 2020. It's possible Counsell doesn't know the final makeup of the roster It's also possible that Braun WON'T be an everyday player in 2020... Even if Braun stays healthy, he will probably only start 110-115 games. Getting a more competent hitter like Garcia to fill in those other ~50 or so games for Braun, plus filling in for Cain and Yelich, he could still find himself starting 80-100 games for us. He will get his at bats and find his footing with us.
  12. I sure hope this is legit. Looks like he’s possibly a radio broadcaster for ESPN Deportes? Garcia is one of those guys that could really be a great under the radar signing. Nice right handed bat that hits lefties well, plays good defense, and has some pop. He would be a nice bat for the 5 or 6 hole next to Narvaez. CF Cain 2B Hiura LF Yelich 3B C Narvaez RF Garcia 1B Braun SS Urias P I love the makeup of this lineup. I just hope we still do something about adding another middle of the order bat to protect Yelich. Even if you flip Yelich and Hiura, we still lack that 4 hole hitter. The only other idea I have would be to put Urias at the top of the lineup with Cain, dropping Yelich to third and Hiura hitting cleanup. This lineup will sure score a lot of runs. It sure would be nice to have Castellanos for first, make him the cleanup hitter, and have Garcia as the 4th outfielder that will get ~400 at bats filling in for Braun and Cain and getting in the lineup during interleague games.
  13. He didn't say it from this comment kind of seems that's what they are leaning I think Stearns’ comment of “but we do think we’re making progress toward filling out a starting rotation” is interesting in that he’s stating it’s still a work in progress, but trending in the right direction. Doesn’t mean they will for sure be adding anyone else, but with the comment he made, I feel like he’s still expecting another starting pitcher to be added to the mix.
  14. The defense would be his main purpose - offense as gravy? Defense as mashed potatoes?
  15. Thanks for this! I do think our rotation would be fine with what we have, but hope we add a difference making arm (possibly through a trade) to put at the top of the rotation next to Woodruff. I do also hope that we move Houser to the pen. I really liked how he pitched coming out of the pen and think that he could have that Pomeranz like role where he pitches a couple innings at a time late in the game on games Hader can’t go. If he remains in the rotation, it’s not a big deal as having a backend rotation arm for cheap is very valuable. I just don’t personally think we will see the best out of him in that role. Here’s hoping to Burnes lighting the world on fire in Spring Training, earning that rotation spot, and kicking Houser into the bullpen!
  16. As it sits today: Woodruff Anderson Houser Lauer Lindblom I think we will still be looking to bring in another arm to slot into the bullpen that has prior starting experience at the least. I do think we could be looking at our rotation heading into the season right here though. I would say Woodruff, Anderson, and Lauer are locks for the rotation. Houser showed well as a reliever early in the year and showed some positive signs in short starts late in the year. I do think if anyone is removed from the rotation because of another rotation arm added to the roster, it’ll be Houser. Lindblom I think was brought in to be a starter and will be given a shot in the rotation before being moved to the bullpen if he is ineffective. As it sits, those are the 5 as of now that are in the rotation with Houser being the first to be removed if another arm is added. He was great out of the pen last season and may be better suited there long term. But I think he will be given a chance early in the year to keep his spot, similar to Burnes and Peralta in 2019.
  17. Responding only after reading the first handful of posts... The man has a career FIP under 4. If we had 5 guys like that last year, we would of had the 8th best starting rotation in the MLB. Let that sink in. He doesn’t walk a ton of people and he doesn’t give up a ton of home runs either. He might give up some hits and doesn’t strike a ton of guys out, but he’s an effective number 3 or 4 pitcher. We could of done much worse here.
  18. I would like to see Pence brought in as the 4th outfielder personally regardless of if we sign someone else like Garcia or Castellanos. Trade Gamel for a couple lottery tickets and bring in Pence. This of course would be if Braun sees the majority of time at first base.
  19. Is this what the projections are for Anderson? If so, I think I'd pass then. It's crazy to me how much more some of these marginal players are getting on the market this winter - as opposed to what we saw the past two winters. I guess I would hoping we could get him more in the 2/14M range, but I'm guessing the 2/20M is probably closer to being accurate. This was just me tossing out a random over/under on him, but basing it off of how insane the prices are for starting pitchers. It wouldn’t shock me to see him get $10 million or a little more in this market today. And with him being in his prime, I could see someone giving him a couple year offer.
  20. Castellanos is my top pick. Otherwise I wouldn’t mind bringing in Avisail Garcia on a multi year deal. Something like a 2/$12-$14 million or so. Castellanos because I think he’s a breakout candidate and will be well worth it. Garcia is my second choice because he does pretty much everything well. He isn’t particularly great at anything, but is a solid fielder, has some speed, has some pop, and doesn’t strikeout a ton.
  21. Over/under on a 2/$20 million contract for Anderson? Is he worth it to us?
  22. I would be thrilled with this. I’m comfortable with a long term deal for him, especially knowing that Braun’s contract comes off the books next season, basically opening up a similar amount of flexibility next offseason in the $15 million range that I think Castellanos will sign for.
  23. I mentioned this in another thread, but feel like it needs to be mentioned here as well. It was just mentioned on Hot Stove by Richard Justice of MLB.com this morning that “there was gossip in the lobby” of the Winter Meetings that the Brewers were going to come away with one of the big third baseman (notably Rendon or possibly Donaldson). They said the Brewers “obviously they did not get Rendon” and it looks like they aren’t going to get Donaldson either with the multiple teams making strong pushes for him, but Stearns should have Brewers fan’s trust by now with his track record of success. I think the Brewers being linked to Rendon and how there was a lot of talk of the Brewers getting a big name guy like him shows exactly how the Brewers are viewing this window and that they absolutely are not going to sit on their hands and cut payroll. I’m absolutely stoked to hear that they were seriously involved in Rendon talks and that others involved actually felt that the Brewers has a real shot of coming away with him.

  25. This is one that bothers me a little bit. It’s actually shocking how many people don’t know how to spell the correct usage of those two words.
