  1. Two weeks until the draft. Hopefully some different discussion of a more upbeat nature coming. Draft really snuck up on me. Granted the last one was in June so time between drafts was compressed but still... Can't wait. Pack with 10 picks. NFL draft was at its normal time in 2020. Difference was there was literally NOTHING else happening during lockdown, so the lead up to the draft was pretty much uncontested. Lots more going on this time around. Heck, last year's draft was broadcast live on ABC, and was appointment viewing. I wonder if that will be a case this year?
  2. I asked via Twitter, and got this response: Brewers Player Development @BrewersPD · 3m Aaron just returned from the Alternate Site to camp in Phoenix. He'll wear number 48 in honor of @DimTillard
  3. And maybe Peralta... Heck, as far as I'm concerned, you can throw Houser and his 1.80 ERA in as well. Small sample alert obviously, but he's looked good so far as well.
  4. Also could change if/when Hiura figures it out. And because this is the Optimism Thread, he will.
  5. It is possible, albeit unlikely, that Ashby is on the taxi squad and is traveling with the team.
  6. I think that if he wouldn't have gotten on, Burnes likely would have came back out for the 7th. The fact that he had to run the bases, plus that he extended the lead, likely led to the change.
  7. This has all the makings of a "Lindblom finishes the last three" type game. Feyereisen warming though.
  8. Travis Shaw is making Stearns look like a genius so far. Or, perhaps when you consider what they put out for a lineup last season, perhaps just not bad.
  9. Travis Shaw just looks completely different from the player we saw in 2019. His eye, approach, and confidence have all seemingly improved.
  10. He'll bat today, likely in a big spot. In his short time as manager of the Cubs, David Ross has already proven that he loves to manufacture drama.
  11. Eh, both have been bad the last few years. The comparison is that both are basically reclamation project veterans with substantially diminished stuff at this point in their careers.
  12. Exactly why they went out and got a veteran 4th OFer who has historically given fairly competent offense+defense. Looks like they need to add a 5th to cover for Yelich’s recurring injury issues. McKinney has looked the part so far, albeit in an extremely small sample. He's done enough, though, to warrant a longer look I think.
  13. Lo Cain to the 10-day IL. Tyrone Taylor up. Hopefully Lo can get his legs back under him and be back on the short end of the timeframe. Definitely seeing why quality depth is important this season.
  14. I hope this proves correct. It just seems like he's the type (old, underpowered, crafty) that seemingly has given this offense fits in the past.
  15. He was with the Reds. It was actually a minor surprise that they let him go, as he had a decent Spring Training stats-wise. But the Reds are seemingly committed to their "bat first, defense optional" arrangement, so once they made the Suarez to SS move official, the writing was on the wall for Strange-Gordon.
  16. It irks me that Jake Arrieta, who was basically the Cubs' version of the Jordan Zimmermann signing, is seemingly good again. I'm sick of low-risk signings working out for the Cubs. It's time for that team to crawl back into its mismanaged hole.
  17. It might be semantics, but the CDC is suggesting administration of the vaccine be paused. Nothing has been officially suspended. Of the 6.8 million doses of the J&J vaccine administered so far in the U.S., there have been six confirmed cases of blood clots in women ages 18 to 49. I have absolutely no doubt that this likely case of extreme caution is going to cause overblown paranoia.
  18. Losing Topa really hurts, but I'm still confident Rassmussen will figure it out. I'd prefer to see him pitch in games like he did tonight(though maybe with a bit more warning) until then, but with Williams not looking like the same pitcher he was last year, Topa out at least half the year and Rassmussen struggling, the once-mighty BP is looking a little shaky. Devin Williams shaky start, Rassmussen looking bad in his first two outings, Topa going down...the Pen was supposed to be squared away. A few power arms fighting for the last couple spots, but the core was young and dominant. Its' early, but hasn't quite shaken out that way. I think this is where both the unheralded pickup of Boxberger and trading Arcia for two power arms could end up being a blessing. Everyone is talking about teams wanting starting pitching depth, but not many are taking into account what type of effect last year's weird season may have had on bullpen arms.
  19. Perdomo looked unhittable at times in Spring Training. His biggest speed bump, as always, will be command. But if he has finally found that, he has the makings of a potential asset in the pen. Hopefully Yardley figures something out and can come back closer to the pitcher he was in 2020. A guy with his type of stuff has to be impeccable hitting his spots, and Yardley has missed far to often in his opportunities this year.
  20. You want Hiura to get a second consecutive day off after the only successful game he's had this season? I understand wanting to load up on lefties, but most people were frustrated that Hiura was off yesterday following a big game, let alone two days in a row. Looks like you are both getting your wish. Vogelbach draws another start at 1B, while Hiura is getting his first start of the year at 2B.
  21. Exactly. By all accounts, the Brewers were minutes away from non-tendering Knebel, which means that his value in relation to his projected salary was next to nothing across MLB. The Dodgers must have figured they'd be interested in him as a free agent, so rather than take the chance of having to compete on the open market for him, they threw the Brewers a low-tier (but interesting) prospect for him. I think that's all this is.
  22. Still VERY early, but so far, this is looking like a very astute move. Shaw has been every bit of his solid self defensively, and the bat has been a nice surprise. He's had some very good ABs, and has even taken some pitches the other way to beat the shift. His approach has been a night-and-day difference from what we saw in 2019. Granted, Shaw has always been a streaky hitter, and he'll have his slumps this year, but I can't see how anyone couldn't be enthused by what he's done so far.
  23. Been watching Resident Alien lately. It just finished its first season run on the SyFy Network. Kind of a Sci Fi "dramady" (think kind of a cross between X-Files and Fargo) but it is really funny.
  24. It continues to be unimaginable that Ozuna (and to a bit lesser extent, Yelich) have Gold Gloves to their name. I think it proves that no one actually watched those late 'teens Marlins teams actually play baseball.
