  1. Something tells me there is a bespectacled diminutive middle infielder on the roster that is decidedly not happy to hear that news.
  2. You definitely could be right and I do agree that Hiura might be the guy already. Sogard could be better than Villar, right Brew4U, if given the chance? What are your view on Sogood, oh I mean, Sogard? Really, Villar is the one getting at bats regularly. The others get sporadic scraps. Other than a 3-week stretch of games last season, Sogard has proven throughout his whole career that he cannot be the guy. But you keep pulling for 'ole Scrappy Do!
  3. I guess what I was trying to say is that I think the best we can hope for defensively from Santana is "adequate". Yes he has shown improvement, but I guess when I think "plus defender", I think "above average". I personally don't think he's ever going to be that. Sorry, I should have clarified.
  4. But if he's ready to play tomorrow, we'll have saved 3 days rather than have someone up that can actually help us...This teams DL management is a joke. Yes it is! Yet it continues to be defended. They are constantly playing short handed because they refuse to put their "day-to-day" injured guys on the DL. It has cost them as well. The DL rules were changed from 14 to 10 exactly for this reason, yet the team refuses to utilize it. I just don't get it. It's also a little frustrating how banged up Yelich has been this season. I know that can't be helped. It just sucks when guys that were nearly unbreakable for their previous teams are suddenly shelved often with the Brewers.
  5. Some of those projected trades are ridiculous. That Moose trade to the Braves may be the worst. They evidently haven't been looking at the return rental players are getting over the last couple seasons.
  6. You keep saying that. What prospect are you talking about??? Villar started at 2B in 2017, stared 2B in 2018. What prospect bumped him from 2B in the past? Sogard? He means shifted him to 2B to make room for Arcia. But I have a feeling you know that.
  7. Orf can play there adequately. Saladino could as well. They have Dylan Moore in AAA as well.
  8. That's why part of me thinks that Aaron Sanchez could be the target. Just turned 26, and has ace-type stuff. Not eligible for free agency until 2021. Perhaps a higher ceiling than Stroman, although he's had nagging-type injury issues the last couple years.
  9. Check that, Meister assigned to Colorado Springs. Slightly different than Maryvale. I'm kind of excited to see what this guy can do. If he really can crank it up to triple digits, we could be on to something here. I wonder if he's being looked at as strictly a reliever?
  10. Broxton is obviously uber-athletic and is capable of being a Gold-Glove-caliber CF, but he had some mental-type lapses out there at times last year that may have contributed to the idea that his defense isn't great. Athletically, though, he is probably a step above Cain. Cain has him beat in angles and overall baseball smarts, though, which probably makes Cain the superior defender out there. It's closer than you'd think, though. While it is very nice to have a CF of Broxton's quality in reserve in case of a Cain injury, I still really can't believe another team hasn't targeted Broxton as a starting CF candidate, and made the Brewers a decent offer for him. The guy may be a little inconsistent, but he is exciting out there, has a terrific attitude and could bring a lot of good things to a team. I have to think he'd be a substantial upgrade for several teams, and he's controllable for several years and still in his theoretical prime.
  11. I'll admit that he hasn't been an embarrassment in the outfield this year, and he has the athleticism to be a good defender (he's fast and has a cannon for an arm). He isn't close to that yet, though. Hitting-wise, he's always going to be a high-K guy, which isn't ideal at the top of the order. If he has his power, though, he's a legit middle-of-the-order bat. He's young enough to still turn things around. If they could get him going, that would be a huge help to this offense, and provide some lineup consistency. Santana strikes me as the type of guy they'll trade for a bag of peanuts, and he'll immediately turn into a 40 HR/year guy. And that sucks.
  12. If he can't hit for power at Colorado Springs, I don't want him anywhere near the major league club. His value lies in his power, as he's never going to be a plus defender or table setter.
  13. I hope it's Stroman or Sanchez and Solarte. I have no interest at all in Happ. He's having a decent year, but there is no upside there, he's purely a rental, and I don't think he's any better than what they are throwing out there. I think when Stearns talked about acquiring a top of the rotation guy, Happ is not what he meant.
  14. I think I'd rather have 6-7 decent starters below the top guy to choose from than to start trading away from a position where we finally have some decent depth.
  15. Miller Thames Aguilar Shaw Braun Orf Pina Broxton Suter Pretty cool that Orf gets the start. But kinda unnerving that they are so banged up that he's in the #6 spot.
  16. Still gotta make a 25-man move Wilkerson went back down. Zagurski must have bought doughnuts for the clubhouse this morning. Edit: Orf gets the start, hitting 6th tonight.
  17. Sogard doesn't even have 100 at bats.... that's about an AB a game. These many middle IF moves are the result of Arcia and Villar, primarily. They are the ones starting and playing in these games and not doing much. We are now scrambling for something, anything, even a Choi trade, to get numbers like Sogard's last season. Oh come on. If Sogard was providing even a quarter of the production he did in his hot window last season, they wouldn't be cycling through any of these guys, and Sogard would be getting a starter-level number at ABs. The only reason he has less than 100 ABs is that he has done next to nothing with the chances he's been given. When you produce, you get more opportunity. If you don't, you either ride the pine or are jettisoned. Villar has shown hints of production this year, which explains why he's still around. Arcia hasn't, and now he's not.
  18. Will be interesting to see what the move is to bring Orf up. Sogard has to be on borrowed time. His and Orf's skillsets are pretty redundant. If Sogard isn't gone today, I imagine he's a dead duck when Saladino returns likely later this week.
  19. Solarte could be another potential target. Great power numbers, positional flexibility and a switch hitter. That checks a few Stearns boxes.
  20. There is no way in hell Arcia headlines a deal for Syndergard. Dubon is more valuable at this point, and do you think the Mets would value HIM as a centerpiece? Use your head. ok Dad, I'll use my head next time. Andrelton Simmons, coming off THREE straight not good offensive seasons (cumulative slash line of 252/301/658) with 5/53 remaining on his contract, brought back the #19 overall prospect (mlb.com) in Sean Newcomb, who made his MLB debut less than 1.5yrs later. Arcia is posting horrific numbers at the plate this year and even with that included his career totals are 246/293/654. Simmons just completed his age 25 season when traded. Arcia is 23, controlled for 4yrs (insanely cheap compared to Simmons contract), is a stud defensively (not Simmons level as nobody is) and, like Simmons his rookie year, has showed what he's capable of offensively already. Arcia was a Top 10 overall prospect for a reason. The ability is there and when he gets back on track offensively he's a borderline AS caliber player at his position (like last year - at age 22). Sweeping everything under the rug except his current offensive output to determine his value is absurd. So, like I said, I'm calling Arcia in a package to the Mets if a trade happens. I can't tell you who else would potentially be involved (definitely not Hiura) as I don't know what Arcia's exact value is but he absolutely has plenty of value. I have a gut feeling that rumors will fly around hard core with us strongly being connected to deGrom and Thor while Stearns is working even harder dealing for Stroman. I don't think the Mets are the ultimate play. We certainly don't need to use Hiura to land Stroman either. That was a really solid reply to a rather snarky post. Bravo. I think many here are underselling Arcia's value as well. 23-year-old Gold Glove-caliber SS do not grow on trees. That said, I simply cannot imagine the Brewers giving up on him unless he is a headliner for someone like deGrom.
  21. Why? So he can stand out in RF, play marginal defense and not hit for any power while showing horrendous plate discipline? Perez can do that. He must have really worked on his defense if it's become marginal! I originally had "bad", but figured I'd be kind. I'll say he has looked better on defense this year compared to last year.
  22. Why? So he can stand out in RF, play marginal defense and not hit for any power while showing horrendous plate discipline? Perez can do that. Santana has done absolutely nothing to deserve being called back up. I wonder if Cain comes off the DL this week if they consider giving either him 0r Broxton some time in RF?
  23. I would love to have Syndergaard as well. I was simply doing an apples to apples comparison to deGrom, and I'd rather have deGrom. Of course, it depends on what would be going back, but if the return packages are equal, give me deGrom, even with one less year of control. Both of them are much better than what we are throwing out there.
  24. Nottingham is on the 40-man. Bethancourt is not. For that reason alone I think Nottingham would be the pick if they decided to make a change.
