  1. He gets overlooked I think because he doesn't have the high draft pick pedigree, and because there are a couple posters here that want to believe that Stearns got fleeced in the Khris Davis deal. As it turns out, both Nottingham and Derby are profiling as potential Major League regulars, and if Derby can keep going like he is, he's a potential rotation cog. He doesn't throw super hard, and is not the 6'5", 230 lb. ideal that a lot of people want for their starting rotations, but the guy knows how to pitch, has a solid mix and has gotten results since coming to the Brewer organization. I think that Davis deal may end up eventually looking like a steal for the Brewers.
  2. I know its not a difference maker in the scope of things due primarily to the high-end OF depth at AA & AAA, but can someone explain to me why room was made for all that depth by releasing Davis as opposed to Quintin Berry? Nothing against Berry, but they seemed to fill similar niches (speed/capable batting LH) and Davis has much more upside as an advanced athlete and younger age. Even though he just turned 28, his prospect arc plays younger. as is well chronicled, he came to baseball late, didn't start his pro career until 23, and due to injuries, he's really only had three cumulative years of professional experience, so developmentally in a way should be compared to someone a couple years younger- except at 28 he's just entering his physical prime. either way- wish him well. I'm guessing he saw that Cain, Yelich, Phillips, Broxton, Taylor, Wren, Ray, Stokes and Grisham are ahead of him on the depth chart, and given his advanced age for a AA-AAA player, he asked for, and received his release to go try to find a better opportunity where he wasn't blocked by as many better players.
  3. This is such an amazing level of humility that it has to be pointed out and commended. Even though some of the ideas you were promoting haven't worked out as you expected, I've always found your comments to well thought out. It's funny because I've seen you defend yourself in response to posts I've made about bold statements and how they tend to backfire and you weren't even one of the 2-3 people I was referring to. Even when you've shared a critical "hot take" its usually accompanied by a caveat that you hope you're wrong. Not that my opinion means anything, but I think you're a good poster. Some arguments, especially this offseason, got pretty heated. At the end of the day, it's baseball. A game. It's all in good fun.
  4. Are you ready to believe in the "special sauce" yet? And I am not trying to rub it in your face right now because in a month, he could be a turd. But it sure seems like there is something "special" about JJ in a Brewers uniform. As this team has proven to me this year, hot takes can make you look stupid. I thought the starting pitching was going to be bad, and that Alex Cobb was the answer to the team's prayers. I also said the makeup of the roster was horrible. And I let everyone know it multiple times. Egg on my face.
  5. LOL, I think even the most optimistic blue-and-yellow-goggled Brewer fan didn't see Miley as an answer to the perceived rotation woes.
  6. I think its going to be Suter and a position player, likely either Phillips or a Sogard DFA. Counsell has said ideally he'd like an 8-man pen. Williams is pitching too well to demote in my opinion.
  7. I have absolutely no problem with Orf getting the call. I think he's got much more upside with the bat than Sogard, and while he may not have the positional flexibility Sogard has, Perez could conceivably fill in at SS in the event of an Arcia injury, and Dubon or Saladino could be up with the big club within 12 hours.
  8. Hader is getting the press so far, but Jeffress has been just as impressive. I wonder if two non-closer relievers from the same team have ever made the All Star team?
  9. Throughout Miley's career, he's had a habit of stringing 2-3 decent to good starts together, before imploding into a start or two where he gives up 8 runs in two innings. I admit that I had absolutely no faith in him from the moment they signed him, but after last night's game, I raised my Defcon level to "very cautiously optimistic". If he turns out to be a solid starter for the team, Derek Johnson deserves a parade.
  10. 23 years old. Barely a month of ML at-bats. Yep, screams no chance to me. Solid hot take, though. He was referring to that one at bat and he was right... Hopefully. I was thrown by the odd phrasing.
  11. Yeah, probably. They didn't sign Logan just to give up on him. I'm sure they'll option Suter down to AAA to continue starting. While they don't really have a "long" man, most of the pen guys provide decent length, so a traditional long man probably isn't a huge need. They could go to an 8-man pen, too, and drop Sogard or option Phillips.
  12. Well, he surprised me tonight. Not buying in, but he certainly earned a few starts to see if he's discovered something.
  13. 23 years old. Barely a month of ML at-bats. Yep, screams no chance to me. Solid hot take, though.
  14. Oh Ryan Braun ... so good, yet so brittle. Reminds me of the end of Ben Sheets's career. The talent was clearly still there, but the body just couldn't handle the grind anymore.
  15. Villar Yelich Braun Shaw Aguilar Santana Pina Arcia Miley Wish Cain was in there, but other than that, the line-up is fine.
  16. Further proof that being left-handed provides baseball's equivalent of 9 lives for a pitcher While he does have odd reverse splits, Drake is a righty
  17. LOL, good call. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt today, for at least one time through the order. #FreeBrentSuter
  18. Jacob Barnes is still on the roster... Not as dominant as Hader and Jeffress have been, but its hard to find much fault with that 1.65 ERA.
  19. He has a .158 BABIP with a 26% LD%. He's been incredibly unlucky. Compare that to Villar who has a .390 BABIP and an 18% LD%..... so, he's been as lucky as you can be. Go ahead though, use his batting average as the catalyst to DFA him after less than 60 PA's. I don't think anyone is basing it on his poor batting average in a small sample this year. He's been pretty bad his whole career. Last year was probably his ceiling, and it still wasn't very good.
  20. I almost feel sort of sad, because rallying around how bad Drake is turned out to be a great unifier for this board. I wonder if that is some sort of Stockholm Syndrome? Looking at some of the horrible relief pitching in MLB this year, something tells me Drake isn't going to clear. They might even be able to trade him for some organizational soldier type.
  21. You could say that about a big part of the MLB line-up right now. You're right, though.
  22. Wonder if it's only going to be a one-day thing, or if they are getting fed up with Santana's lack of production, last night 2 RBI double withstanding. My guess is Phillips goes down tomorrow. Those final guys are racking up the frequent flyer miles!
