  1. With what currency? They pretty much have nothing left for farm depth.
  2. Take a look at the rest of the guys on the 40-man if you really want to go down the rabbit hole.
  3. Jeremy Jeffress: From Tayler Scott Corey Knebel: With Luis Sardinas and Marcos Diplan from Yovani Gallardo Manny Pina: With Javier Betancourt from Francisco Rodriguez through Danny Herrera and Adrian Rosario (kind of)
  4. I think you are seriously overestimating Lowrie's perceived value. Take a look at similar trades over the last few years. Walker is a very similar player, and the Brewers got him for a nothingburger non-prospect. Also, comparing Broxton's value now to when the Brewers got him is an apples-to-oranges comparison. Now I get the argument that the A's may not want to trade for a legit big leaguer, but that is a whole separate argument about tanking and whatnot.
  5. I think Lowrie would replace Sogard and Villar, as there would be no reason to hang onto Villar as a utility guy. His defense just isn't good enough to warrant that. I, too, am hoping they stick with Villar and see what they ultimately have in him. His speed is needed in the lineup.
  6. I like Sutton as well. Great size at 6'4" and 216, and while he doesn't have lid-lifting speed, he should be fine in that area as well. Also strong and should be able to beat press coverage. If he is still around in the 2nd round, he's be a great pick.
  7. Made and continues to make no sense for Oakland. That .167 average Boog Powell is throwing up is doing that much for you? Or the .091 Smolinski is batting? Trading for Broxton is not a "go for it" move. It's a "put a legit big leaguer in our outfield relatively inexpensively" move. And it makes sense. But, please explain your rationale.
  8. Zach Davies just scattered 3 hits and no runs across 6 1/3 innings, and Guerra has given up 1 earned run in three starts! Seriously, the grass is not always greener.
  9. So much of it is going to depend on where those QBs go. Allen, Mayfield and Darnold should be gone in the first 5 picks, then Rosen and Jackson could go anywhere from 6 to 20. If the Packers are going to stay at 14 or move up, it is better if all those QBs go early obviously. If the QBs fall, though, and the defensive guys get picked through, dropping down 9 spots and grabbing another late 1st is a solid plan. There are a lot of holes on this team that need filling, and that late 1st is a prime spot to grab another solid prospect. Don't forget, too, that there will be solid veteran types available via trade, and a 31st pick can get you at least a solid starter, if not a Pro Bowler via trade.
  10. VERY interesting draft-related tidbits out of 1265 this morning ... The Packers are exploring trade-up scenarios in the event Bradley Chubb falls out of the top 5 picks. They view him as the only sure-fire difference making pass rusher is this year's draft. They also like Minkah Fitzpatrick and Derwin James, but would hope that one of them falls to 14, rather than trade up for either. Also, there is scuttlebutt within Packer brass that the Patriots are dead set on drafting Brady's successor this year, and they LOVE Lamar Jackson, and would be very interested in Josh Rosen should he fall to the mid-teens. Would #23 and #31 be enough for the Packers to give up #14, especially if there is a player they like on the board?
  11. Obviously not great, but I think it's important to remember these are just tune-ups and he is probably(obviously) not game ready. Now, do I want to see him start over, say, Woodruff? No, but if he takes a start from Suter, well, it probably isn't the worst thing in the world. Are they tune-ups, though? I'd argue that he is pitching for his Brewers career. If he doesn't perform at least marginally well, I don't think there is any way they can put him in the rotation. It still feels weird to say, for for once, this tam is not lacking starting pitching depth.
  12. https://brewers.mlblogs.com/brewers-mourn-passing-of-davey-nelson-82c8d5066a41 Sad to hear. Davey had a long career in different roles with the team, and always had a great attitude despite the team's struggles over the years.
  13. To me, the performance of the starting pitching has been a very pleasant surprise. Anderson has been good, Davies has been up and down (two great starts, two bad), Chacin has pretty much been blah as advertised, Guerra has been very solid so far, Woodruff looked ok before going down, and despite a bunch of people wanting Suter gone, he's managed to keep the team in games. I'd love to see the pitchers going deeper into games, but I think these early hooks are a philosophy, and with the success of the middle relief, who can complain? I don't think Miley is going to improve on any of these top 6, and probably not Burnes, Peralta or Derby either. Wilkerson is also on the DL in AAA and should be back soon. With all the depth performing quite well, I think they can safely cut bait on Miley without any repercussions.
  14. Spring Training would have been the ideal time to add him. I'm kind of surprised something like a Broxton-for-Lawrie swap didn't happen. Makes good sense for both sides.
  15. The closing situation was pretty bad up until a week ago, with several blown saves, including an almost unbelievable 3 in one game. Yes, they have looked better with these longer saves, but lets not put Knebel out to pasture just yet. He was a dominant All-Star closer last year, and I suspect he'll be right back in that spot when deemed healthy. And it will make the bullpen all that much better.
  16. Wow ... this Marlins defense makes the Brewers look like Gold Glovers all around.
  17. Eric Thames with them all loaded up on his bobblehead day. This is fun!
  18. Miley is getting slapped around a bit in his rehab start, though. Couple of solo HRs and 4 hits total through 2 innings.
  19. Albers on in the 7th? Hmmm. I wonder if they are looking at a 2-inning save attempt from either Hader or Barnes?
  20. Bubba Derby with 5 2/3 innings of 1 hit ball for Colorado Springs this afternoon. And he's their 4th starter! Dare I saw this team has more viable starting pitching depth than they have in the last two decades? When you combine that with the solid starts (albeit not deep into games) they are getting at the big league level, I'll admit that so far, my biggest fear regarding this team was very wrong, and that makes me happy.
  21. Jeremy Jeffress = stud! He has been absolutely phenomenal this year. Hader is getting the press, but Jeffress has seriously been an arguable team MVP so far.
  22. Really a battle for Guerra today. Just didn't have his best stuff, despite good velocity. Gonna be lucky to escape without a big inning now.
