  1. Ding ding ding! Hiura's nearly 50% K rate is an enormous black hole in the lineup, and probably the main reason he's playing in Nashville right now. Yeah, Hiura has power. But he certainly isn't the guy I want up to bat in a key situation late in a game.
  2. If we get a couple weeks into camp and he's still on it, then it's concerning. At this point, though, it's a nothingburger.
  3. That's where I'm at as well. The only time it bothers me now is when it negatively affects a team I have a rooting interest in.
  4. I edited your quote to more accurately reflect my thoughts. But I suppose that's neither here nor there.
  5. If the unthinkable happens and the Cardinals voodoo their way to a World Series, I hope beyond all hope it's against the Blue Jays.
  6. Besides just being plain bad at player valuations in general, that site is notoriously terrible at determining reliever trade values. I would take ANY reliever value they put up with a huge block of salt.
  7. I disagree completely. Any GM worth anything knows that MLB relievers are streaky and volatile. Hader is obviously not immune to that. Plus we're talking about a guy who has literally been the best in the business the last half decade. He's got plenty of value, even with his rough last couple weeks.
  8. Metzinger was the reason Bilelas played more 1B in 2021. He's a very good defender. I agree, nice pickup.
  9. Theoretically you might have a point, but I preface that with saying that the guys making the selections know WAY more than we do about these guys. And I don't know if "shocked" is really the right way to say it, either. Granted the MLB draft is more of a crapshoot than the other pro sports, but personally I would be more disappointed if any of these top 3-4 picks don't pan out, than shocked if they do.
  10. Typically guys with a high ceiling/upside also have a very low floor. Jake Gatewood comes to mind. Sometimes you just need to draft guys who are solid ballplayers. Not every guy you draft in the top 5 rounds needs to have 35 HR, 100 RBI upside. That ceiling doesn't matter if they never make it out of Biloxi.
  11. Can that ump be traded or DFA'd, since this is the Transactions/Rumors section?
  12. Pretty much hear this same line every time they have a rough go of it and limp into the break.
  13. I typically like Counsell, but I agree. Terrible call, and he doesn't even poke his head out of the dugout to argue?
  14. I don't think they had a good enough camera angle to determine that. It appeared to be close, though, Not a bad one to challenge.
  15. Lauer has seemingly righted the ship here in July after looking pretty bad in June. Hopefully it continues.
  16. Gosh I'd love to see them deal for a solid, controllable 3B before the deadline. I agree that Urias is likely this team's 2B of the future. He's fine defensively at 3B, but his production would be all that much more valuable at 2B.
  17. That we most definitely will. A lot can happen between now and then too. This is definitely a flawed team. No doubt about it. I think the next couple weeks leading up to the trade deadline will be quite telling as to where things are headed this year. But had you told me back in Spring Training that the Brewers would be narrowly leading the division going into the All Star Break, I would have said "Yep, that sounds about right." Nothing has really happened that would be considered surprising concerning the Brewers. They were expected to be at the top of the division and be a playoff contender, and that's exactly what they currently are, despite their warts.
  18. Sure is a good thing they play 162 of these things then, and that they all count the same.
