  1. Did I miss the trade deadline being pushed up to the 30th? Why all this angst over not making any trades yet?
  2. We need a different return than the one we got for Richmond Lockwood Sexson. With the Sexson trade, we were filling out our depleted roster with players who were capable of being in the majors and while we got some quality major leaguers, we now need to find some difference-makers in the rotation for Prince. How do you know that Melvin was "asleep at the wheel" during this process? Just because Haren went for an underwhelming package to LAA does not indicate whether Melvin pursued him or not. I'd have to disagree with you on this point, as I believe most fans would be extremely disappointed if we trade Prince and have the exact same response you believe not trading him will have on the team. Lots of people who don't follow the team as closely as us here will just assume it is the "same ol' Brewers" trading away our stars for prospects and just tune out as my girlfriend and family have indicated when I discuss the Prince and Hart rumors.
  3. There was no question raised, jwill made a statement that Posey could replace Fielder when he is traded -- though the chances of us getting Posey for Hart would appear to be nil (not that anybody was really indicating that as a possibility).
  4. I'm pretty sure jwill was referring to Posey in that hypothetical.
  5. Cory mentioned on the broadcast last night that he had talked with Bob and that things were going well. He said something along the lines of: We expect him back real soon.
  6. ok, semantics, Zaun turns 39 in 162 hours. Yep, you're right, he's not 40. Agreed, he's not 40. Couldn't tell that from your posts. A near statistical mirror in BA, but great point in the insanely over-hyped OPS stat...let's see where it matters in the runs and rbi dept. So we're suppose to compare the two based on opportunities out of their control? When you are getting 200 more ABs a year, you should score more runs and have more RBIs as you'll have more chances, hence the reason I looked at OPS. Even with the advantage of 600 more ABs, Kendall has managed only 33 more runs and 24 more RBIs. In the past 3 years when he is in the line up, Zaun has been more productive than Kendall and should provide the Brewers an upgrade offensively. I'd say talk to me in 5 months, but it will prolly take half the time. So in 2.5 months we'll be looking at what?
  7. What would be considered "pretty damn close" to you? Here are their respective lines over the last 3 years: .243/.320/.313/.633 - Kendall (1443 ABs) .246/.342/.397/.739 - Zaun (838 ABs) To me, a 100+ point difference in OPS isn't close at all, and actually represents pretty good improvement as well as not being "empty" as you claim. Also, just to let ya know, Zaun is 38 and not 40 as you keep repeating.
  8. Or not. According to baseball-reference.com the Brewers have exceeded their Pythagorean record by a combined 5 games over the last 3 years: 2007: 83-79 (actual) 83-79 (Pythagorean) 0 change 2008: 90-72 (actual) 87-75 (Pythagorean) +32009: 80-82 (actual) 78-84 (Pythagorean) +2 So the Brewers have been somewhat lucky, but not nearly as much as you indicated in your post. On to my prediction: Being an optimist, I say the Brewers go 92-70 and make a deep run in the playoffs.
  9. There is a bit of a difference between having Lasik to replace contacts/glasses and actually getting corrective lenses for poor eyesight. It appears that Hart is in the latter group (though it does not mean he will actually improve) verse Hall and Kendall the previous two years.
  10. The Washington Post talked to GM Mike Rizzo who indicated that Dukes was indeed a problem in the clubhouse, though they claim it was "a performance-based decision." "The clubhouse will be more united," Rizzo said. "We'll have a better feel around the ballclub. We'll gain just by that alone."
  11. According to Jon Heyman of SI.com and now breaking news on ESPN, Texas Rangers coach Ron Washington tested positive for cocaine during a random drug test in July of 2009. From the article: Washington took the unusual step of calling the commissioner's office shortly after he was tested following the 2009 All-Star break to warn it that he might fail the test. Washington told the commissioner's office and his Rangers bosses about his cocaine use before the test results were known, and the team decided not to fire him after the test did come back positive.
  12. BP has updated their projections and now has the Brewers giving up 805 runs while scoring 766 runs for a projected record of 77-85 and tied with the Cubs for 3rd place in the Central. The Brewers rank 3rd worst in the NL in RA (behind the Marlins and Pirates). The Brewers rank 3rd best in the NL in RS (behind the Phillies and Rockies).
  13. Sounds like we'll know by Monday whether Counsell will be in a Brewers uniform for 2010 or not. "I think we're getting close," Meister said. "I hope one way or another, whether it's with the Brewers or another team, that we'll have something by Monday." Link
  14. According to McCalvy the Brewers raised their offer to Counsell yesterday morning and Melvin feels good about re-signing him.
  15. Riske probably wasn't factored in to the 2010 bullpen because it doesn't look like he'll pitch until late in the year (if at all). He had TJ surgery in June and who knows how healthy he'll actually be if/when he comes back. There were two things I found on his return and neither seemed too promising. A vague answer at the bottom of McCalvy's story on signing Hawkings: David Riske may return at some point in the season from Tommy John elbow reconstruction surgery. And from Yahoo! Sports team report: RHP David Riske (Tommy John elbow surgery in June 2009) is not expected back until late next season, at the earliest. There was also some brief discussion of insurance on Riske's contract in the 2010 payroll thread so it could possibly be covered if he doesn't pitch for us next year.
  16. From weei.com Full Count blog, via MLBtraderumors: There are approximately 11 teams showing interest in Duchscherer, on various levels. He is currently working out in Arizona and figures to be ready for the start of spring training. Also, from an earlier post on the same blog: Duchscherer is believed to be ready for action from the outset of spring training, and has no interest in going back to the bullpen... EDIT: One more from the Oakland A's site: Duchscherer has been cleared physically and mentally to resume his comeback, and his long list of suitors headed by the Red Sox.
  17. From the story on the pursuit of Wolf from Haudricourt: DiFelice began experiencing discomfort in the shoulder in August and eventually was placed on the disabled list in September. An MRI revealed no significant damage and both Raasch and Los Angeles specialist Lewis Yocum recommended that DiFelice undergo physical therapy. When the shoulder failed to come around, DiFelice requested an arthrogram, which revealed the tears. "I don't think the timetable mattered as to having the surgery now or right after the season," said DiFelice. "The damage was extensive enough that I'm probably going to miss all of next year." They'll obviously non-tender him and it appears that they have interest in signing him to a minor league deal a la Capuano according to Ash, via TH's blog. Ash said the Brewers might re-sign DiFelice to a minor-league deal and see if he can bounce back from the surgery after 2010. "We'll entertain something like that," said Ash. "We have the obligation to rehab him anyway."
  18. Link TH's latest, thinks that it would take that 3rd year for the Brewers to get Wolf. From the link: "Wouldn't surprise me if it's in the neighborhood of $25 million over three years. Like I said, the Brewers will have to pay top dollar to get Wolf to come to Milwaukee." EDIT: Beat me to it trwi7.
  19. Who do the Brewers have in the minors getting off the DL soon?
  20. Might as well put me in for these ones too Pedro. If I somehow win this random drawing, please remove me from Thursday's as others should have a better chance of going.
  21. Please put my name in the hat. Thanks for the offer Pedro!
  22. Yogi Berra and Bill Dickey, #8, New York Yankees
  23. Jackie Robinson, Larry Doby, Frank Robinson? Edit: Nope, I'm wrong.
  24. According to wikipedia and ballparks.com it was built on Story Quarry, and digging deeper into that I found from the Story Hill Neighborhood site that the North Parking lot at Miller Park is where the quarry was located. Another site (ballparksofbaseball.com) does mention it being built on a garbage dump. Maybe the quarry was filled in with garbage when the stadium was being built?
  25. Votto better watch out, he doesn't want to be labeled as injury-prone.
