  1. I would be stunned if Favre manages his own money. I know if I had his money, I wouldn't be managing it personally. I doubt he had $1.1M sitting in his checking account. I'd guess that his accountants received the money and invested it. Then needed to liquidate the funds again to pay it back. I think that was probably a pretty big windfall for Favre at this point, I remember reading when he signed that last contract with the Vikes that he had a very expensive lifestyle, largely because he supported an extended family around him. I bet paying this back hurts, but of course it is all relative and he did come up with $500k Wednesday so he is not that cash strapped.
  2. I don't think $1.1 million is a drop in the bucket for Favre that he wouldn't be aware of, that much is clear from the fact that he is paying the majority of it back in installments. He says he never received money for obligations he didn't meet but they audit says they couldn't find any evidence that he attended the events. I don't know, I guess I can believe that he didn't know the source and it's good that he is paying it back, but I would like to know just why he is involved in a scheme that spent money meant for the poor on "lobbyists, concerts and sports tickets". It just seems like a lot of money, if it was $100K I would say yeah nothing to see here.
  3. Just looking at Surhoff's stats, I had forgotten about his power surge in Baltimore. I think Palmeiro was on those Oriole teams too.
  4. I like Bosch, I always seem to blow through the new seasons in just a few days. It sort of tries to be The Wire but lacks the humor and memorable characters. I think pulling off the comedy is what separates the truly great crime dramas like Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Wire, Deadwood, Justified, Saul, Boardwalk Empire, maybe The Shield need to watch that again. Those shows are all hilarious and that's what makes them worth a second watch. Just finished Homeland, it's a solid final season.
  5. Any chance Cephus makes it to our next pick?
  6. I think the Love pick was an organizational thing, the Packers have rode Favre and Rodgers to 2 Super Bowls, 2 stadium upgrades, and 2 stock sales and are a money making machine. I can't say for sure that it would all come crashing down with a decade of losing but I don't think they want to find out. We aren't going all in for Rodgers. I like the RB pick now that I have thought about it more, keep building the running game and defense and keep Rodgers healthy. I don't love the TE pick but not too worried about reaching at the end of the 3rd, it's getting closer to where talent really starts to plateau anyway. I will find a way to love this draft by Monday like I always do.
  7. Well there goes Aaron Jones in FA
  8. Jefferson and Cleveland are good picks. Gladney profiles as a nickel corner, though. Jets just took Mims. darn. Just like the in game threads we need an alternate delayed Hulu Live thread
  9. Yeah, but they always seem to score the guys who drop, it plays to their fan base(Randy Moss!) and they get great grades but it doesn't mean much. Guys drop because of reasons not apparent to a lot of the guys who put out the mocks beforehand.
  10. One of the depressing things about watching the draft is the constant reminder of how screwed up college football is, my god I am sick of hearing an Alabama player selected every other pick.
  11. Yeah I don't know why anyone would have Lion envy. I laughed and laughed when they signed Geronimo
  12. I used to think it wasn't allowed until that day, happens all the time in the NBA not sure why you don't see it more in the NFL. You would think at the top of the draft teams would try to call a bluff and force a trade. Too risky I guess.
  13. I was wondering about that but hadn't looked it up yet, trading is like releasing and the Packer have to clear cap room to do it. But it's the bonus money that accelerates onto the cap, the rest of the hit goes to the other team with him. My guess would be they could trade him after year 2 of the 4 year deal, they may have to redo some other contracts but they could make it work. If the prorated bonus hit started 2 years ago it could be sooner.
  14. I am not that concerned about giving up the pick, it is the end of the 4th round and we still have a bunch of day 3 picks to move around and get some players we are targeting as projects to fill out the roster. I am OK with taking a QB too, we have talked about it here and it makes sense with Rodgers age and the need for a quality backup behind him. But thinking more about it this morning and watching some talking heads I am reminded of 2018 and the camera shots of Rodgers and LaFleur on the sidelines last season. Maybe the packers are a little tired of Rodgers and view him as uncoachable, he is not going anywhere this season obviously but he may see the writing on the wall. Will be very interested to see his reaction today.
  15. Maybe this belongs in the bugging you thread but it is NFL related, the Packers are still insisting that we pay for our season tickets, they extended the deadline to June 1. It seems pretty unlikely to me that we will be able to attend games, at this point the right thing to do is say pay when we can confirm there will be attend-able games. Now they will collect our money, bank it, and then give us the choice of getting it back when the games are cancelled or apply it to next season. Either way they get to hold our cash for a while. This isn't looking out for your fans, some of whom may be short on money. Guess I will wait until the deadline and hope something changes. Reminds me of Murphy talking about $20 ticket increases, "would you rather we increase it $10 this year and then $10 next year?". Like they are doing US a favor by taking the full 20 earlier.
  16. I am in the camp that you should always take the QB if he is the clear BPA. It's such am important position that there is nothing wrong with having a quality starter o the bench for a few years. If the guy blows everyone away in his first couple of camps and pushes Rodgers it's a good problem to have. I remember reading TT was really high on Vince Young the year we drafted Hawk, the year AFTER he picked Rodgers. Favre would have lost his freaking mind.
  17. I don't think that 5th year is as big a deal as I thought it would be when they added it. For guys at the end of the 1st round it is hit or miss whether it will be picked up, it is a pretty expensive year, and for a QB if he pans out as a blue chipper you will be looking at a big time extension by then anyway. I think it sometimes puts GM's in a bad position of choosing between giving a mediocre player(Trubisky!) a huge one year deal or conceding that he blew the pick. It helps that you can delay extending guys like Clark and HaHa for a year but that's about the best you get out of it, like I say the really good players are going to get bigger extensions anyway or would be franchised without the 5th year anyway.
  18. I have been watching Picard this weekend and you are going to have forgive me for not keeping up on trekkie news but Seven of Nine is back!!!! A little aged but then so am I. I'd still....
  19. This is a big part of the problem. We've labeled food as essential which it absolutely is obviously. So people are going to ice cream shop to get a cone. There's a Frosty Freeze in Janesville and there are pictures of 20 and 30 people standing around shoulder-to-shoulder waiting to get cones and sundaes. There's nothing essential about an ice cream cone and when people are standing shoulder-to-shoulder in groups of 20 and 30 not only are they violating the whole idea, they're congregating at a place that ais serving food that has damn near no nutritional value at all. They're not going there to eat. They're going there to get out of their houses. I absolutely understand that. But the longer people hang out at places like this and keep spreading this around with the longer we're going to have to do this. Agreed and it's not just people like me filling up the Kwik Trip for beer, I see people buying cigarettes by the pack and even a guy just buying lottery tickets. We are so convenience oriented these days that even if you take away a lot of our social hangouts we still mingle everyday. makes me feel like we were doomed all along to be screwed by this virus.
  20. Was just watching the Stargazer video on youtube, what a freaking great song. It's too bad Ritchie Blackmore got obsessed with top 40 success(that he never obtained) because they were really nailing it at that time.
  21. I have friends who are old enough and smart enough to know better but search for restaurants they can still eat out at. They just can't give up that part of their life. But I am one to talk, I have went to Kwik Trip just to buy beer a couple of times and those are pretty tight spaces that are still busy.
  22. Yeah I could care less about the crowd or anything else they usually do. Just have the regular studio guys and talk to the players, gm's, coaches through skype if they want. I can't wait.
  23. Cool name. Not a great football player. Glad we're moving on from him. Couldn't get separation, didn't run clean routes a lot of the time. Guy was an undrafted FA, so that the Packers got what they did out of him is probably somewhat of an accomplishment. My biggest problem with him last year was the Packers kept throwing those quick screens to him and he has such a slow first step they were always wasted plays. He also had 2 or 3 big fumbles although I think one of them was reversed as his knee was down earlier in the play. I thought he was the worst player on the team by the end of the year.
  24. He was definitely a megastar for a short window, I loved the Gambler TV movies as a kid. I am not a country fan so not sure if he was a great talent getting his due or just a marketing sensation. Without looking it up the only songs I remember are "The Gambler", "Coward of the County" which was pretty much the same song, and "Islands in the Stream" which may have been a BeeGee's song if not for the collapse of disco. That insurance commercial a few years ago was hilarious. RIP
  25. With the existing picks they own, that would give them a lot of ammo to move up if they wanted to. Those picks would come next year buy maybe that's when you were thinking.
