RHP Shane Smith has been promoted to AA Biloxi after an outstanding first full pro season to this point between Carolina and Wisconsin.

Not sure about anyone else with Mudcats/Rattlers, but I have heard that there have been discussions about Logan Henderson moving up to Biloxi once playoffs are finished since he’ll miss the opportunity to pitch for the Rattlers this year.

Unbeknownst to me until today, Garcia also had a brief promotion to Nashville in 2022.

My sincerest apologies, a lot on my mind at the moment. C Jesus Garcia was also released, not Jesus Parra whom was released earlier this season.

Also released today was 1B Jesus Parra. I believe there are still more names to come, unfortunately.

I’ve heard rumblings about first base, second base, and corner outfield spots, but he isn’t particularly suited for first with his size and his problems are not actually with the glove, it’s his arm. They are going to continue to give him reps at shortstop and third base while working on bringing down the throwing errors. At this point, while individuals in the organization may have other landing spots in the back of their minds, the focus will remain on sticking on the left side of the infield because his glove is honestly pretty strong and he has good strength in his throwing arm, just needs work.

Fourth Brewers (kinda) prospect in the last decade to pass away by my count. Donny Everett and Charlie Donovan (2015 draftees, did not sign), Andres Melendez (2017 int. signing), and now Familia (2015 int. signing). Four young, talented individuals taken too soon. Of course, one is too many. RIP Aaron

Add this to the Michael Mediavilla, Leoni De La Cruz, Kent Hasler (etc.) mystery reliever release list. All I’ve been told is his injury wasn’t too serious, at least not career-threatening, and he has been a great guy in the clubhouse.

Unfortunately, I don’t have much to share at this point, but I’ll see if I can find some of that info for those interested.

I believe he’s already been told, pending his health, that he’ll likely be participating.

Suffered a non-displaced hairline fracture on his left scapula on July 1st. He was expected to miss about 8 weeks with the injury.

Fun to think about it and I’m a huge Miggy fan, always have been, but the 2023 brewers are a few notches below even the 2003 Wild Card Marlins no matter who they bring in at the deadline. I wish it weren’t the case, but this offense, even with the talent on the pitching staff, isn’t capable of making it past the first round of the playoffs.

Going to ignore the article and just post my thoughts here. Say the Brewers were to handle Chourio this year the same way that they did last year. That would mean he is coming up on another aggressive promotion to AAA in the near future. Say all goes well with that promotion and he is holding his own or flourishing with Nashville. If the organization was to follow last year’s playbook, he would be rewarded with a short cup of coffee in the majors at the end of the regular season. I think that’s what many fans want and what some expect at this point. Personally, while I would love to see him in the majors as a teenager for the pure accomplishment that is in itself, that is not what I envision or want, quite frankly. If I were Matt Arnold, Tom Flanagan, and co, I would like to see Chourio get nearly a full-season in AAA. This isn’t because I think it’s out of the realm of possibility that he is that talented enough to make it to Milwaukee by the end of the year or because I think they need to hold him back. Rather, I would like to see him promoted to AAA in the next few weeks, play out the season there, and come back to start 2024. That way he isn’t being overwhelmed by the admittedly crazy levels of “hype” surrounding him at the moment, he grows into his body and abilities even more (crazy right?), and comes up (hopefully) as an impact, everyday player when the team is playing (hopefully) meaningful games in mid-Summer rather than trying to fit him in at bats in mid or late September with Yelich, Wiemer, Frelick, Perkins, Taylor, Mitchell (possibly), and whatever other impact players they are going to acquire, fingers crossed. Chourio seems to thrive with mid season promotions and better competition so, barring a insanely huge spring performance, let him get a third and final opening day in the minors in 2024 and you have yourself an impact bat to add to the lineup when the trade deadline rolls around next summer when he’s undoubtedly ready as a still baby-faced 20-year-old instead of trading from the outstanding depth in the organization for a player that likely isn’t as talented as Chourio. Or just keep him in AAA for three of four years, right @clancyphile?

“Black’s move, and the pickups of Wilken and Boere in the draft have now given the Brewers incredible depth at the hot corner in their system. That said, some of those who don’t get the spotlight, particularly Devanney, Adams, and Nadal, also could be very credible options down the road.” Worth noting that Nadal’s long-term defensive home will be second base regardless of development. He will certainly add some muscle as he matures, but at 5’7” 125 lb. (generous) and with not much power/not a strong arm at this point, it is hard to imagine an outcome of third base or in the outfield.

Wilken certainly fits 1B profile more with his body type and size as well as the power although 3B has become another power position in recent years. From what I’ve seen on the defensive side of things, Boeve has a better chance to stick at third and has even seen time at short in the past (no, I don’t think he’ll play there in pro ball much at all but I could be wrong).

Alberis Ferrer, former infielder that had a big 2021 in the Arizona Complex League but struggled last year in his first taste of full-season ball, has converted to the mound and should make his pitching debut in the near future.

Sad situation with our old friend. I’m afraid that similar situations are all too common. (Luke Barker, Braden Webb, etc.)

I believe Arias is dealing with an injury and is still in the organization, unless I have missed something.

C/1B Tayden Hall is dealing with a nagging lower back injury. He is headed to Arizona to see a specialist and, at this point, it seems as though his absence may be longer than his first stay on the IL this season. That being said, this is not a situation that should keep him out longer than a month, hence the 7-day IL placement.

Was shut down with elbow soreness this spring (also what kept him out of the AFL last year) that is considered a common occurrence when coming back from the procedure he had a year ago. I was told it was considered nothing major and Henderson himself told me, barring a setback, he expected to begin a rehab assignment with the Mudcats in early May, after which he would head to Wisconsin.

For those that may be interested, Luis Lara will be joining the Mudcats this week. Lara and Luis Castillo (hopefully making his season debut in the next couple weeks as well) could be two spark plugs in the lineup.

In more positive news, RHP Ryne Moore (rehab from TJ surgery) will return to the mound next week. Still a little ways from game action, but getting closer!
