  1. It's hard to believe Kyle is a Brewers' fan. He has no clue about small market teams in MLB, especially Milwaukee. He must be confusing the Brewes with the cubs, Dodgers, or Astros. If Turner got the $35M contract, that would mean he and Yelich by themselves would be 45-50% of the Brewers entire payroll. It would make absolutely no sense.
  2. With 37 year old Longoria's history of injuries, I don't think the Brewers would want to waste $13M on him to play maybe 90 games. I just can't see paying that kind of money for a .6 WAR and negative .4 dWAR player. I do like Vasquez if they could get him for the right price.
  3. Why would Arnold would want Kelenic, another outfielder? He's been horrible in the big leagues. Locklear is at least 2 years away from being any help. It would be hard to fathom the Mariners getting rid of a young and very controllable Kirby, especially for 2 years of Burnes.
  4. I think it's just a matter of semantics, your definition of tank job. No matter what it would be a very bad team in 2023 and probably 2024. IMO 100 losses would be very possible depending on how the rest of the Central improved. Attendance would drop like a rock. I can't imagine MA would want to risk putting that bad a team on the field.
  5. This would be a tank job unlike any other. Buehler had TJ surgery in late August and won't pitch until late 2023 if at all. The team would struggle to stay under triple digit losses and maybe set a team record for losses. I can't imagine MA wanting to see attendance drop off to next to nothing.
  6. I don't think Stearns is trading one of his best hitters in Renfroe. I do believe Wong is either re-signed and traded or just let go. I hope Stearns can bring in somebody to replace Rogers, but with so many other holes to fill, I don't see him paying $8M. The pen was horrible after the trading deadline, so I guess it's a possibility unless they pickup somebody in a trade. Right now as I see it: Williams-Bush-Cousins-Stzrelecki-Suter-Milner-Houser-New Addition (hope and a prayer).

  8. I see Caratini getting about $3M. Tellez more than doubles his salary to $4M. Wong is gone, either threw a sign and trade or just let go. Turang ($710K) to 2B unless Stearns can do a better job and get a 3B. Then Urias at 2B, Turang as super utility (Peterson and wong nor re-signed). Urias $4.5M. Adames $8M. That's $20.2M or let's say $24M on the hgh side.

  10. I wouldn't move Adames. His natural position is SS. He has been a SS his entire career and plays very good defense so why move him? Does anybody know if he can play 3B or if he would accept the move? Turang has played various positions in the minors. Better to move him than Adames. The best move would be to find a young 3B through a trade, sign and trade Wong, and put Turang at 2B.

  12. I think Wong is gone, especially if Stearns can somehow swing a trade for a 3B. Turang is raking in the minors (.286/.361) and the Brewers need to get a good look at him. Urias' best position is also 2B. With almost half the team arby eligible, that $10M could go towards other more needy positions.

  14. IF (and it's a big IF) Stearns can somehow find a 3B through trade, then I think Wong is gone for sure. They have to find a spot for Turang, and if it's not 2B (Urias at 2B) then it's in Peterson's role as a super utility guy. I think McCutchon-Rogers-Narvaez are gone for sure. Depending on what CC thinks of Brosseau I think Peterson is going to get more than what Milwaukee wants to pay and he leaves too. Rogers just isn't worth the projected $9M he'll get so Stearns has to find another lefty in the pen besides Suter (I think he'll be back). Houser is questionable unless they trade Burnes for a huge haul.

  16. I don't think Stearns is going to re-sign Wong. Urias' real value is at 2B. I think the fall-back plan is putting Turang at 2B and returning Urias to 3B, but that might be a down grade over this year. In order to improve the club, Stearns needs to find a decent 3B and Turang goes to the Peterson role as a super utility guy. I too believe Peterson is going to command too much money for the Brewers on the open market next year.

  18. Good catch. I didn't mean to trade both. The Brewers can't remain competitive if they trade both. Obviously Burnes has the most value and I believe he would bring quite a haul if traded to the right team. Trading Woodruff could fill a hole and bring a young SP. I wish the Brewers had the money to keep both for 4-5 more years, but baseball reality says no way.
  19. For next year: Decline Wong's ($8.5M w/ $2M buyout) $10M option. Let Omar ($5M), McCutchen ($8.5), Peterson ($1.8M), and Rogers go. With Hader's and Cain's salary gone, it should provide more than enough to sign a decent FA (Drury?)and pay all the arby guys. Put Urias at 2B where his greatest value lies. Hiura becomes the DH. Bring up one of the young CFs from AAA and let Taylor be the 4th OF. Turang (2B-SS-CF) takes Peterson's place as the super utility guy along with Brosseau. Caratini becomes the main catcher and it's time to see what Feliciano can do as the back-up. Stearns has to make the tough decision on Woodruff and Burnes. Both would be highly desirable with two years remaining before FA.
  20. Ashby is like a lot of young guys, he lacks control both in the zone and out. However with Ashby it's more with his fastball than his off speed stuff. He doesn't have the ability to throw his fastball up when he needs to or to locate down and in on a righty. Like the article said, he gets killed with 2 strike pitches because he doesn't have the control of the slider/curve to throw it over the plate but low or to back foot a RH hitter. Instead he catches too much of the plate and hitters are looking for the breaking ball. His change-up needs a lot of work because he throws it too high in the zone most of the time. He has all the talent to be a TOR pitcher if he can learn to control the upper part of the zone and get an effective change-up.
  21. So for one of the best relievers in baseball, Stearns gets a guy he immediately DFA'd, a struggling reliever who was removed from his late inning job and who will probably be gone in 2023, a prospect whose ceiling is a #5 or swing man, and a prospect who wasn't in S.D. top 20. Then to add to his fiasco he pays for a guy who hasn't pitched in two years and may not pitch this year and will be a FA next year. His "best" move was getting a 36 year old with a questionable past. This can only be described as a Stearns' sh*t show. The Padres not only took his lunch money, they took his shirt, pants, and shoes too.
  22. Like a lot of fans, I was way off when I thought Stearns could have done a lot better for Hader. At least they dumped his salary and maybe Ruiz could compete for the CF job next year. Rogers and Lamet need to drastically turn things around if either is going to help the pen right now. Lamet's ongoing arm/elbow issues has seen him struggle for the last couple of years. He was bad last year after another round of arm problems and has been horrible (9.49 ERA - 2.02 WHIP - 6.6 BBs/9 IPS) this year since he returned from yet another arm injury. According to the Padre sites, they were getting ready to DFA him. Rogers hasn't been good for two months (In June/July giving up 16 earned runs and 26 hits in 19 IPs) and had to be removed from high leverage innings. Next year Rogers will be gone in FA. Lamet will be making over $5M in arby next year and unless the Brewers can find something the Padres couldn't, I don't see him being around.
  23. Except Pomeranz sucked as a starter and then improved when he went to the pen. Norris sucked in the bullpen and we are...keeping him in the bullpen. Except Norris hasn't really sucked in the bullpen. His ERA- of 104 out of the pen is slightly below average, but his FIP- of 75 & xFIP- of 76 (which hold much more predictive power over a sample of only 62 IP than ERA does) place him within the top 20-35 relievers in MLB over the last two years. Any good number for Norris comes from facing LH. CC has to hope he can severly limit Norris' exposure to RH batters. He sucks against RH (.333/.412/.520). Nobody in baseball would ever confuse Norris with being anything but a low level reliever. He's better than Perdomo or Milner, so it is a plus for the team.
