  1. I wouldn't even offer him a contract. His market value I assume would be somewhere between $7.5 - $9M. Way too much for him. He's one of the worst fielding 2B in the majors. Every defensive metric is negative for him at 2B and SS. With the Brwers' weak starting staff, they need good up-the-middle defense.
  2. One of the most asinine articles ever written about Soto.
  3. Bohm hit .280 (779 OPS) and drove in 97 last year. I think Milwaukee would see him as a one year 3B with adequate defense. They should get better defensively at SS with Ortiz so it's a wash from last year. Bohm fills a huge hole in the infield for now and he would be making less than Williams, so he fits into the Brewers' payroll well.
  4. I think Whisenhunt is far too iffy to be an impact player. His numbers at AAA were not great and if the Giants were willing to give him up for just one year of Williams, like Endaround said, that would really be a red flag. I would definitely not give away Civale for lottery tickets. The Brewers' starting staff is weak and full of holes and question marks. Take away Civale it gets weaker. Endaround was right when he said ther is no chance the Rays would move Diaz and Lowe for such a weak package. Besides, there is no way I'm moving the platinum glove winner (Turang) off 2B for Lowe who is a below average fielder. Turang has saved too many hits and runs for a Brewer staff that relies so heavily on the defense.
  5. The Phillies would be looking for prospects to trade for a closer. With the Williams for Bohm deal they don't need prospects to get a closer. They also have to money to extend Williams for years.
  6. I believe Hoskins is their primary 1B with Yelich getting the big majority of games as the DH. Hoskins and Contreras could see maybe 20 games each as the DH. I don't see any way Milwaukee moves the platinum glove winner (Turang) off 2B. He's far too valuable there. If they trade for Bohm it's going to be as a 3B with Ortiz moving to SS. The following year Bohm could move to 1B if any of the young guys can step in at 3B.
  7. IF the Brewers could get Luzardo and Mauricio that cheaply, they would jump at the chance. I think the Marlins and Mets could get a lot more, but who knows. The trades would certainly help Milwaukee. I don't see letting Williams go for a couple of OFs and Porter who hasn't even seen AA yet. The return is just too weak and I believe Williams in a pkg. could help the Crew right away.
  8. In any of these trade scenarios, if that's all that Milwaukee can get for Williams, I'd just keep him and take the comp. pick. Why would the Brewers want Stott (.245/.671 OPS)? He's a clone of Turang and no way I'd move Turang off 2B for him. With the Phillies it's Bohm or nothing (Brewers probably have to include another piece to get Bohm). The Mets deal doesn't do much for the Brewers either. Acuna is a utility type player and Baty has failed miserably in the big leagues. Far too risky. Williams is worth more to Milwaukee than any of these guys.
  9. Would the Rangers take one year of Williams for two years of Lowe when they are both going to be making about the same money? It would be a heck of a deal for Milwaukee and certainly have to come before they considered moving Hoskins. Sproat is the Mets' top prospect, but he got rocked at AAA last year. Would he be of any help in 2025? Baty has failed too many times in the big leagues to consider him a lock at 3B. Milwaukee would have to sign a guy like DeJong just to have somebody if Baty failed yet again. Morabito is another young OF with no power. Peralta is a reliable starter with a very decent contract. Given the Brewers situation, he would leave a big hole if they traded him.
  10. I don't see Torres as being a more desirable option. The Brewers put a premium on defense and Torres is a well below average fielder. I believe that eliminates him right away. Plus he's going to be asking far more than he's worth to Milwaukee. Kim is a good defender but he probably isn't available to start the season and he doesn't have the power the Brewers need. I think Milwaukee trades for a 3B and signs DeJong/Urshela (or both) as backups.
  11. I don't think the Brewers want to pay Robert $17M (w/buyout) for one year, especially with his extensive injury history. They just can't afford to throw money away like that. I'm with you on DeJong. I think he would be a great signing for a utility guy/3B, and probably easily in their price range. If they could make a deal for Baty and have DeJong in reserve, that could fix the problem at 3B..
  12. Just say no to McMahon unless the Rockies eat at least half his contract. He's a career .220/.306 hitter away from Coors. He's certainly not a guy you put in the middle of your order and considering he's owed $44M over the next 3 years, it's just a bad investment for Milwaukee. The Brewers' payroll is very uncertain next year with the Bally Sports fiasco. $44M is too much for a small market team to pay a guy with a good glove but a blah bat.
  13. I just don't see the Brewers looking at 18-21 year old prospects for Williams unless that's the best return possible. They already have a nice farm system and need more immediate help. With Yelich coming back and others maturing, they aren't that far away from moving past the 1st round. It looks as if Hoskins is staying so their immediate need is 3B/SS. I don't think they want to move Turang off 2B considering how many outs and runs he saved with his defense.
  14. Unless baseball does what football did with a salary cap (never going to happen), this makes no sense. The big money teams already have an enormous advantage! This just gives them even more and the gap widens that much more between the haves and the havenots.
  15. Smith regressed badly in the 2nd half of the season (BA .293/.215 - OBP .392/.265). I would rather Milwaukee went after Miranda and looked at signing DeJong or Urshela as a veteran IF. I like the idea of getting Robert on a one year "show me" type deal (decline option if it doesn't work out), but believe it would take a lot more than Black to get him. That would allow Yelich to be a full time DH. Turang (2B) - Contreras (C) - Yelich (DH) - Robert (RF) - Chourio (LF) - Miranda (3B) - Hoskins (1B) - Mitchell (CF) - Ortiz (SS) Bench: DeJong/Urshela-Haase-Perkins-Dunn
  16. The Brewers are probably going to DH Yeli quite a bit, so unless Hoskins opts out, I don't see any way the Crew adds Goldschmidt. If Hoskins leaves, Walker is the one I'd target. I don't see spending money on Polanco because Dunn could hit .213/.286. Moncada's bat could help, but he is a ticking time bomb with his extensive history of injuries. I'd rather see them work something out for Miranda, then use Williams, Black, Rodriguez, etc... for a power hitting LF/RF.
  17. Mears' problem appears to be his fastball. It's straight as a string. No movement. Hitters sit fastball and t-off when they see it. He has to learn a two seamer or a change-up to keep hitters off his #1.
  18. Make it 4 bombs, 10 ERs, and 12 hits for Montas in his last 8 1/3 IPs.
  19. Do the Brewers have a starter who can keep the ball in the ballpark? They have to be approaching 200 bombs given up as a staff. Bottom 5 or 6 for sure. That's 3 bombs, 6 ERs and 10 hits in Montas' last 8 IPs. It's going to be a challange for Murphy to pick a starter after Peralta and Meyers.
  20. Hoskins 5 hits in his last 50 ABs - 17 Ks. Maybe he can get lucky and run into one tonight.
  21. Hoskins 5 for his last 46 with 16 Ks. (season .292 OBP). Between Bauers and Hoskins they are hitting under .200 with an under .300 OBP. I guess the the bright side is both Hoskins and Bauers are due. I just hope it happens very soon.
  22. It had to be about 500-1 betting odds that Turang would whiff or roll over on one to the 2B. He looked like a high school kid. I can't imagine what Murphy was thinking when he penciled in Turang at 2B tonight. Oh crap! Here we go again with Rea. He's absolutely horrible tonight. Another bomb and 4 straight hits. 8 earned runs in 1+ IPs. That's 10 dingers allowed in his last 6 games. Gotta hope the Dodgers can mash and beat the cubs.
  23. Rae's 25th bomb allowed this year. Brewer pitchers are having a rough year keeping the ball in the ball park.
  24. I just don't see the Yankees having any interest in Hoskins, unless as you said, packaged with Williams which really downgrades the return. Hoskins is hitting a whopping .208 with a .292 OBP. Negative 20 runs better than average and a negative dWAR. I think the Brewers are stuck with Hoskins unless they take on an equally horrible contract and then why do it. Right now I don't think you'd get a used bag of balls for Peguero and Hoskins.
  25. That's the 4th bomb Myers has allowed in his last 13 IPs. He recovered nicely and only gave up the one run. Get that one back in the Crew's half now.
