  1. I don't understand why many of the "experts" aren't bemoaning Choo because he is only Hiura's height and therefore not a good fit to play 1B. Plus he has never played anything but the outfield and that too would totally disqualify him as a 1B.
  2. There comes a point to a team with limited finances where "top dollar" is way to much to pay to a 36 year old player.
  3. I'm with you about Bauer. There have been some crazy moves lately, but I think you are spot on what you think about his agent planting crap to drive up the price. Tomorrow you and I will probably be dead wrong and somebody will sign him 4/$125. Thankfully it won't be the Brewers.
  4. IMO you are wrong about a 2B being similiar at 3B. The two positions aren't that close. Third is much more reaction and a lot less movement. The throw is about twice as long and in many cases has to be made much quicker. Going from 3B to 2B is much easier than going from 2B to 3B. Maybe Wong has the arm and reactions to do it, but that can't be assumed.
  5. No way the Mets even consider a Hader for Smith trade, much less adding another player. The Mets' have been saying Smith will be in the OF if there is no DH. Davis for Hader may be a possibility, but his stock has been raising lately. Cleveland has been quite about trading Ramirez. There would be a huge backlash if they traded him unless somebody really overwhelmed them. I think your package would be about even, but not overwhelming.
  6. Hader/Mitchell/Turang may get Olson. Add Small and it may get Chapman, but never both of them.
  7. IMO you are way over estimating the Rockies return package. Montero was so badly overmatched at AA his value went way down. Maybe 4-6 sv. Gomber is a lefty that walks too many and not a big K guy. Maybe 5-7 sv. Locey is just starting out and has nothing special. Didn't do that well at A ball. Maybe 1-2 sv. Gil the same way. 1-2. Sommers doesn't look like he'll get past AA. He didn't do well in rookie ball. 0 sv. All together I would put the package at: high side +17 / low side +11. I can understand why the Rockies' fans are irate with this trade. They got nothing to be even mildly excited about and had to send $50M to the Cards to boot!
  8. At least in your Rays proposal the Brewers get some immediate help. In your Padres trade it looks like you'd be giving up on winning. Hader is gone and no help for 2-5 years. IMO the Brewers have to fill 3B or 1B in any Hader trade. Otherwise keep him until the deadline.
  9. I like the Turner/Walker signings but I seriously doubt Arnold would have all that money to spend. I can't imagine the Jays would do a big over pay for Hader/Houser and IMO the Brewers could do a lot better elsewhere.
  10. You do know Myers is scheduled to make $46M over the next two years. Arnold would never in a million years take on that kind of money for a player like Myers. Weathers is in A ball and didn't do that well there. Ona has barely been in AA and Hassell hasn't even started his career.
  11. I still think the Rays would be a realistic trade partner. They have an over abundance of infielders and I believe guys like Wendle or Brosseau or Diaz could be had at a decent price.
  12. WOW! Now the Yelich trade looks like a complete armed holdup. Yamamoto's big dip in velocity and disasterous 2020 caused the Marlins to worry about his past arm problems and DFA him. Brinson-Diaz-Harrison: all three have career batting averages below .200 and whiff at around the 30% rate. This could go down in baseball history as one of the worst, most lopsided trades ever.
  13. I just don't see spending nearly $15M for a career .246/.313 hitter to be a 4th OF.
  14. College teammate of Brandon Woodruff. Frazier has been solid against RHP throughout his career. Wouldn’t be a bad pickup if they can figure out how he’d fit into the lineup. IMO I'd rather see A. Cabrera than Frazier. Frazier has played exactly one game at 3B since 2017. He is arby eligible and already making $4.3M. He would cost something in prospects to trade for, where Cabrera costs nothing and probably could be had for less money. Neither is a permanent solution, but affordable options.
  15. Turner is looking for a 4 year contract at $17-20M per. He's not happening. Maybe LaStella (baring any Hader trade for a 3B) at 2/$14M is about as high as Arnold can go for a FA. I really like your Cabrera move and maybe he could be had for a little less than $4M. However even these moves brings the payroll in at $90M and I don't know if Arnold will be allowed to go there. Who is Arnold? On Turner. He's 36. Michael Brantley is 34 and more athletic. Brantley could only get a 2yr contract even though his bat compares with Turner's. It's a depressed market for majority of teams. Turner won't be getting a 4yr contract. I'll quit BF if he does. Turner has regressed from his last contract that one was 4years 64 mil from LA who back loaded the last 2 years at 19&20mil. If the guy having his best season at age 31season turning 32 can only get a 4yr contract at 16AAV from the Dodgers. He sure as heck after regressing isnt approaching 17-20M-AAV 4years later. I see now why the projection for him was 2-24. Get caught up he made 20mil last season as if that was what his value had been in a recent 1yr or 2yr deal. But it's just a backloaded amount. He accepted 25mil those first 2 seasons that should be the max right there for him 2-25. This goes back to my 2yr with mutual option 3rd yr. 10, 12, and 3 buyout. With 15 if mutually agreed. Max 3-37 or 2-25 guaranteed. If you can get Cabrera for 3.5-4mil to play 1b with Vogelbach as backup. That would go a long way improving the outlook of this offseason. Matt Arnold
  16. I hate the Yankees over-hyped system, so this would disgust me. I think Garcia's ceiling is as a poor man's Freddie Peralta. Vizcaino is a decent arm, but also probably profiles as a reliever. Florial is the king of hype, as he's seemingly been on top prospect lists since they were writing them with typewriters. He's also 23, and hasn't played above High A, other than a few ABs at the end of the weird 2020 COVID season with the Yankees. Smith is yet another utility infielder. I totally agree RRB. None of the prospects is anywhere near a top prospect. IMO unless Arnold gets off the pot and signs a 1B/3B, the Brewers trade Hader only for immediate offense that helps them win NOW while their pitching is still cheap. When is the Central ever going to be this weak? Why trade Hader for a bunch of maybes? If they can't get immediate help, keep Hader until the trade deadline and start over.
  17. Your answer is NO. Assuming the budget is $90M, with the defered money owed, that would leave approx. $35M for 24 guys. Cain at $17M leaves $18M for 23 guys. Woodruff and Lindblom $6.5M leaves $13.5M for 21 guys. Almost all of the remaining 21 players would have to be making minimum salary.
  18. Many players won't accept any deferred contracts. They could be losing out on tax deferred income. Back loaded contracts often times come back to haunt payroll constricted teams. Especially when they get to the point of competing. There is no easy answer with a very limited payroll.
  19. WOW! Way more than I thought he'd get.
  20. No way, not having Bonds and Clemens in the HOF is just silly. Hopefully the voters punishing them vote them in their final year. I think the only way Bonds-Clemens-Schilling get in is through the vets voting way down the road.
  21. The problem is money. Plus how do you know Yelich would agree to move to 1B? You'd be adding at least and estimated $14-16M. I guess until we know about the DH and Arnold actually admits to whay payroll is going to look like, it's all moot anyway.
  22. I just can't see the big deal about Semien. 2015: .257/.310/.715 OPS 2016: .238/.300/ .735 2017: .249/.325/.722 2018: .255/.318/.706 2019: .289/.385/.892 2020: .223/.305/.679 Pretty decent for a SS, but is he really a difference maker?
  24. IMO Turner is waaay off their radar. He's 36 and according to reports coming out of LA, he's looking for a four year contract. He made $19M in 2019 and I'm sure looking for something in that area per year. I just can't imagine the Brewers having even the slightest interest in him at this point.
  25. Some of the best memories I'll ever have is riding the bus to see Hamerin Hank, Spahnie, Burdette, Mathews, et all at the old County Stadium. The world lost a a legend and a great man. RIP Hank.
