  1. No way Stearns even considers Sanchez. It's all about money. Sanchez would be making somewhere around $6.5-7M next year and more in 2022. Far too much to spend on comeback type player for a team looking to cut payroll and he'd have to give up somebody decent in a trade. I'd much rather put that money towards LaStella and lock up 3B for a while.
  2. Great stuff showing how the game has changed in a relatively short time. HR hitters are getting the big, big contracts. Guys who hit 1Bs and 2Bs, put the ball in play and get on base are becoming more rare every year. Those guys rarely make the gigantic money. The huge emphasis is now launch angle. The big "slow pitch" uppercut has become commonplace throughout baseball. With hitters taking the big hacks no matter what the count, I think the precipitous leap in Ks will continue for quite a while.
  3. The Mets wouldn't even consider the deal. Losing both McNeil and Davis would hurt their offense greatly. Hader wouldn't have enough value to offset the great loss of offense. Urias and Lindblom are nothing more than throw-ins. Urias would project as a backup at 2B-SS and Lindblom has little or no value to them.
  4. Braun proved once again this year that even with a very short season and many days off he still couldn't hold up. He only played in 39 games and he had to leave 3 of those games early because of injury. He is way to risky to waste $5M on, especially if Stearns is cutting payroll again. Vogelbach did a nice job and deserves to get the first look at DH if the NL continues with the DH. Plus he's only making the lg. minimum. You likely never want Dan Vogelbach taking an AB against a left-handed pitcher, though, if you can help it. His splits are pretty extreme, to the point where he needs to be used as a platoon option at either DH or 1B. You know who has historically been great against left-handed pitching, though ... So you would want Stearns to commit at least $5M for a severely injury prone guy to play against lefties? When in all probability Stearns will be once again cutting payroll? That $5M would be better used to pay for a starting 3B or 1B rather than a part-time DH that can never be counted on to be available to play.
  5. Angels aren't letting Fletcher go for anything unless they are overwhelmed with a deal that includes an MLB ready SS. Hadar wouldn't be close to the deal they would be looking for. Too many other holes to fill and Fletcher isn't even eligible for arby until after the 2021 season. Simmons is gone and Fletcher steps right in at SS for them.

  7. After what Stearns said about payroll, there is zero chance of signing Profar (career .238/.318 hitter) or Porcello who is not anywhere near good enough for the money he makes. Mckinney is a career .231/.291 hitter who whiffs 28% fo the time. About the only guy I could see Stearns coveting is LaStella who is the type of hitter CC needs and has great infield flexability. He would cost approx. what Profar will command and is much, much better for the Crew. I think it all depends on what he gets for Hadar. If he gets an MLB ready 1B or 3B and a pitcher, things will all fall into place from there.
  8. I love LaStella at 3B if they can get him for a 3/21M - 3/24M type deal. Brantley is just going to be too expensive. He's a guy everyone would love to have, but Stearns doesn't have the money and has other more pressing needs. With Cain returning, they have 3 decent OFs and still need a 1B. Gyorko was ok there, but not a long term solution. I believe a trade to the Mets for D. Smith or Davis could get done easily. Vogelbach deserves the first look at DH (presuming the NL continues with the DH). With the lack of payroll, Stearns is almost forced to trade Hadar and others to retool the miserable offense. If the could get La Stella that would be about it for FA pickups.
  9. Means is very interesting and I love Iglesias. Means gives up some HRs, but is a lefty and the Brewers aren't giving up that much. I like the trade. Pederson is no better than Gamel and a lot more expensive. Pass on him. Gausman is already making over $9M and may be too expensive especially if they get Means. I'd love to have him, but it depends on will MA let Stearns pay for him. Canha is a backup for the A's and obtainable. Good power and OBP, but he Ks a lot and salary is a concern since he's already making $5M and arby eligible. The Brewers might have better luck going after J.D. Davis of the Mets. Probably could get him for the same deal or less.
  10. I wouldn't want Braun back for any price. He has become so injury prone that CC would be lucky to get 75 games from him. Vogelbach deserves the first look at DH. Stearns has to find reliable guys and forget about Braun.
  11. You are kidding right?? You have the Brewers adding $62M plus their arby guys and subtracting maybe $20M. Myers alone is $23M. Your proposal would add over $40M to the payroll. The Crew aren't the cubs or Yankees that have almost limitless money.
  12. Mariners adding 3 or 4 relievers means they add them on 1, 1+1 or 2 year deals and then trade them in the summer if they're performing well. Hader makes less than zero sense for them and isn't going to happen. Right, they make a lot more sense for a Knebel should the Brewers decline to offer and not reach a compromise. I can't imagine Stearns trading Hadar w/o getting somebody that will definately help in 2021. Their offense was horrible and with no answer in the minors, I think he goes after immediate help along with minor lg. help. Hader's market is suppressed because he only has value for teams that think they're a dominant reliever away. That's not Seattle(though they have done dumber things). I haven't followed this thread that closely, but I wonder if Tampa would be a team that may be interested? Obviously it wouldn't be the type of move they'd normally make, but if they fall short...they have a great farm system and Hader's still not going to be cheap enough for them. Hader for Baz, Josh Lowe and Taylor Walls? Haven't seen them mentioned, but it adds a high upside arm, a power bat without a definitive position and a young SS. The 86th ranked prospect and the Rays 5th, 10th and 17th ranked players. The Rays probably wouldn't be interested, but maybe this is there "all in" type move....
  13. Cron and Gyorko are basically the same except Gyorko is a better fielder and cheaper. I believe they are going to give a serious look at Hiura at 1B next year with Vogelbach returning as the DH if the DH stays.
  14. I don't see Stearns dumpster diving after the disaster he had this year with the multitude of journeymen and an offense (25th in BA - 22nd in OBP - 23rd in OPS - 24th in Runs - second worst in all baseball in strikeouts - 3rd worst in grounding into DPs) that has stunk since it started. I think he looks to trades to fill holes and signs one mid-level FA. Only time will tell.
  15. You want to give Profar a career .238/.318 a whopping $9M per year?? Walker who has thrown 64 total innings in the last 3 years $16M per year for 6 years?? Turner who will be 36 next year $19M?? Maybe you are being fatuous because Stearns would have to be out of his mind to offer $44M per year for those three guys. The Brewers aren't the cubs who can just burn through money.
  16. Yelich is at 32% whiff rate this year too. W/o both those guys, the offense is horrible.
  17. It's the BIP part of BABIP that has become the huge problem for Hiura. Plus he had another extreme costly error on a very simple ground ball tonight. 2B has become a major concern for Stearns and CC.
  18. The pitching staff is in the upper half of MLB in almost every pitching stat. It's been well discussed that the pitching has not been the problem. With any semblance of an offense they would be leading the league and big-time contenders. They are in the bottom 5 of all baseball in BA - Runs scored - OBP - OPS - Strikeouts. Sadly, Stearns' great journeyman experiment of 2020 has been an abysmal failure with one lone exception, Jed Gyorko.

  21. I think the biggest worry is his whiffs. He is struggling to even touch a ball lately. 12 Ks in his last 18 ABs. He's pulling off every pitch and looks like a high school kid who just saw his first curve ball. Even Rock mentioned twice yesterday that Yelich is pulling away (used to be called stepping in the bucket) with his front foot and pulling his head out. I don't know where he sits among NL leaders in Ks, but it has to be very close to #1 along with Huira and Baez.

  24. Vargas is a switch hitter who plays 2B & 3B. I too would like to see Stearns add him to the 60 man roster.
  25. What am I missing? Trying to save on the $1M buyout? Just looking at stats Vogelbach is nothing special. Okay seasons in the minors, but I don't think there was anything special stats-wise as it is the PCL. Vogelbach is another very low average, big whiff, swing for the fences on every pitch guy. I guess this is another one of Stearns throw-crap-against-the-wall type moves. Not much lost with Smoak. I guess they really don't think much of Healy either if he wasn't brought up. Is that 5 journeymen types Stearns has DFA'd so far?
