  1. Yeah, since I always keep moving back here in the back of my mind, I kept telling myself that this was all relatively unusual, and that normally I wouldn't even be on any roads during this kind of weather, much less those backwoods switchbacks. Now that I'm off the roads and inside drinking hot cocoa and looking at the sun rise over the snow banks and evergreens after watching my nephew open gifts, winter doesn't seem so bad, not bad at all.. Anyway, we were only in Madison for a quick overnight pit-stop...unless you were at Nat Spiel or the Great Dane, you probably didn't see us blur by! Merry Christmas!
  2. TMQ has been pushing this for years, given the average yardage pick-up in an NFL game, and he figures it's only a matter of time until some NFL coach tries this for at least one game.
  3. After having our flight delayed by hours Friday night (arrived at 1 AM! Out of MDW by 2:15!), and then nearly freezing my face off in fifty-below wind chills in Chicago Sunday afternoon, and then dealing with blowing drifts on 94 on our way to Madison on Sunday afternoon/evening, and THEN with blowing drifts on hilly, wind-y, icy and snowed-over roads along the Mississippi in Iowa and Vernon County the last couple days (a woman was killed in a wreck on roads we were driving this morning by DeSoto), I've told my Mom that if she wants the whole family together for Christmas again, Santa's gonna have to come out to California or down to my sister's in Florida.
  4. I'm watching Weather Underground and I'm literally getting nervous by the temperatures I'm seeing...16 below in Ontario today?
  5. Glad this thread is here, since I need a place with Sunday Ticket for next Sunday in or very near Watertown, in Jefferson/Dodge County. Thanks guys, Google has been pretty fruitless.
  6. Uff da I'm flying out to Chicago Friday night for 10 days...lots of driving between there and Milwaukee and Madison, and Ontario, WI (switchback roads on hills, joy) and Guttenberg, IA, along the Mississippi. I can deal with the cold (although I don't want to)...it's the slick roads I'm really dreading. I'm a pretty crummy bad weather driver.
  7. Was this supposed to be in blue
  8. I'm not sure why people thought we'd get Cabrera AND Hughes or Kennedy for a $10M 36 year old 145 strikeout hitter. I'm hearing from fans in New York that it might be JB Cox or Kevin Whelan, which I'd be more than happy with.
  9. Yeah, I heard on Dan Patrick yesterday that CC will make more in one start than Joba Chamberlain will all next season.
  10. As crummy as today's news is, last laugh will be on them, don't worry.
  11. Well, I can't say I'm completely shocked that he went with the Yanks--I'm not surprised at all he didn't come back to Milwaukee. I guess he didn't get what he wanted from the California teams, and managed to squeeze more juice from the Yankees in the process. This is just one of those mornings where I hate rooting for a small-market team...when Big Ben signs elsewhere it's really gonna be a gut punch. One step forward, two steps back...
  12. Funny thread. I love the occasional White Castle, but I agree with a comment I once heard that their burgers come "pre-digested."
  13. The feeling around SF is that Peter Magowan didn't let Sabean do his job, and they're hoping this new guy Neukom will be better I don't know though, that doesn't account for the Renteria signing. I have no real problem with some team signing him for 2/18.5, just not the Giants.
  14. I'd agree with you if it weren't for that massive offer on the table by the Yankees. CC knows and expects he can get more from SF. I think he gets an offer halfway in-between or even the same as the Brewers, he goes home. Whether that makes sense for the Giants (or even CC, as a competitive player), that's a different story. But if they offer him less, I think CC would stay here before going to SF. Whether he would go to NYC instead is another story. At any rate, I never counted on CC being back next year and am upset with myself for even giving myself a minutiae of hope. I'd be definitely satisfied with "just" a Big Ben signing. There's a fine line between holding out for CC and making Big Ben feel like he's Sean Avery's ex-girlfriend, though.
  15. Interesting Stark piece...a Yankees fan I know on another messageboard is absolutely convinced that CC won't walk away from that money, and that CC doesn't really hate New York. I wrote him back: "$140/6 to pitch in a media and competitive maelstrom 3000 miles from home versus, say $115/5 to pitch to a hometown hero's reception in the NL West where you can bat and live 20 minutes away from the mansion you built in the town where you grew up HMMMMM..." And he just says:"he will do the right thing."
  16. This just in: Bill Hall has been dealt to the Bad News Bears for Kelly Leak and Amanda Whurlizer Another Melvin steal!!!
  17. Yeah, I want to see the Angels or Yankees or Dodgers ramp it up now. The cherry on this particular sundae would be seeing CC pitch against the Brew Crew in the Opening series of the season in SF in April. I think the Giants are the team I'd least like to see him sign with besides an NL Central team, but if they're willing to pony up about $120/5, I think they might just be the favorites.
  18. Last year (2007), while down in San Diego watching the Brewers get swept, my wife and I watched one game from the club section, where they had these engravings of silhouettes of baseball players etched on glass. I thought it was supposed to be random players until I came across one that was clearly, clearly Khalil Greene.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Anyway, yeah, I'm a little concerned about Greene becoming St. Louis' next Eckstein. Just a little, though.
  19. We don't get winter in SF as much as we get rainy season. My wife and I are driving up to Mount Shasta this weekend and might need to get our tire-chains out, though!
  20. Last week should've been the finale...there would have been a cliffhanger at the least. I guess the show exists as a crowd-pleaser, though, and continued Queens storylines should pay dividends for them.
  21. I couldn't stand this show the first couple episodes I saw, but it has morphed into one of my favorites--sugary, brief and easily digestible.
  22. Maybe I'll drive over to Vallejo and stand outside his compund with my Brewers' jersey and a guitar: "CC please don't go CC please don't goooooo CC please don't go, down to Anaheim You know I love ya so, CC please don't go"
  23. Well, see him pitch on Day 2 against the Brewers. Whatever. Point being, I think he goes to the Giants if they give him even the same offer the Brewers did.
