  1. True, but this isn't anything new for Rickie. Mental mistakes and extremely costly errors are something you can depend on him to commit. If he didn't inexplicably walk a lot, there would be no reason for him to even be in the majors. I don't know many teams that are allowing a .225 hitter to stay in their lineup. That's another thread, that's been hashed out a million times here (with good reason, generally). But he is not the sole or even primary reason this team lost tonight, and a huge reason we were even in it.
  2. Weeks scored two runs tonight and went 4-5. You gotta take the good with the bad if you want to jump on him this evening, at least.
  3. Yeah, the second I saw Nelson's hit wasn't out my heart dropped because I knew it was prolonging the pain. Really tough loss, provided everything.
  4. BA was a little too excitable there...he should know by now that if Billy isn't posing, it's not a home run
  5. And it was one ugly beauty by the Astros' infield
  6. If we didn't have Weeks this game would already be over: Mets win. (Of course, I say that as he coughs it up)
  7. Phillies win, Cubs tie it up in Chicago, Cardinals winning...this is shaping up to be a pseudo-gut-punch game.
  8. Yeah, hopefully this game ends here so what would end up being a relatively small reason for the Brewers losing the game doesn't turn into a huge dogpile like it usually does here.
  9. Pretty good outfield D from both squads tonight
  10. I've heard from friends that you can add Encore to that list. Add in a stop at Kopp's and presumably a game at MP and you've the makings of a nice visit to Milwaukee
  11. I can't stand these weekday afternoon playoff games regardless of whether the Brewers make the playoffs or not. I'm going to end up having to take vacation days if the Brew Crew does make it
  12. Yeah, I guess I take the glass half-full perspective on the Wild Card race since we have the lead, but the Cubs losing three straight seems to have happened so rarely this season that I am a little chapped we couldn't get it done and gain on them a little.
  13. I get the feeling this could be a long, long inning
  14. I've been wondering about this as his (presumably brief) Brewers' resume gets shinier and shinier: will we forever be like "Hey, remember when we had CC Sabathia? Wasn't that terrific?" a la the '82 team.
  15. Oh man, I just watched Ned's press conference on ESPN...how embarrassing. He can't control his emotions whatsoever; he's like a drunk Dad making a scene in public.
  16. Wow, interesting: I watched until the top of the 8th and had no idea there was a hullabaloo about this. I'd assumed 1) that the call would be reversed and 2) that CC would give up another hit later--a no-no wasn't even on my mind at that point.
  17. A pretty funny, interesting article in today's St. Pete Times.
  18. I went to all those games then as well but as a Bucs' fan (I remember thinking that Broderick "The Sandman" Thomas was really gonna turn the Bucs D around...uff da). They were in the midst of a 16-year losing season streak and it was indeed dire. Culverhouse might've been the most misguided, cheapest NFL owner of all time. The Glazers get there, a new stadium, and some sustained success, and now there's a sizeable season ticket wait list. The area's no different than anywhere else--the fans are not gonna respond to long constant losing and may be slow coming around at first when the franchise sea change comes. Add in that most people there are from somewhere else and it's a tough row to hoe. But it's possible to have a strong market there.
  19. I think 5-5 is very possible...a split in Philly, a series win in Cincinnati, and a win in Chicago
  20. I actually had a couple good meals in Sheboygan while I was out in Plymouth for a wedding recently--at a small lounge called Blue Point upstairs from a restaurant on the water. It was all tapas and small plates and good wines and a nice view.
  21. I think half of Kurt's posts here have something to do with Florida. Personally, I'm disappointed that the Rays are not drawing more, but I do have to say that I'm not shocked that 1) Tampa Bay residents (most of whom are indeed transplants who'll need time to let their past allegiances fall away) aren't flocking to jump on the bandwagon based on 3/4ths of a season of winning baseball after 10 disastrous years in a crummy park and 2) that they didn't have good numbers on a weeknight game after school has began I still believe this market is a sleeping giant, but both teams have been plagued by terrible parks in less-than-ideal locations and awful uncertain ownership (and in the Rays' case, management) from day one.
  22. I believe I've mentioned that I live in San Francisco way too much in my posts, but I think Craigharmann has me beat with his San Antonio references!
  23. Pretty funny: So we know TH isn't the only homer beat writer to get testy!
