  1. Does anyone have a scouting report on Edwin Jimenez? The guy has been great but I am having a hard time figuring anything about him other than stats.
  2. Tapia is nice 4th OF, he will likely hit over .250 with average defense, no power, and a bit of speed. Hopefully Frelick is up to speed quickly and can make it to the big league club in a few weeks. Tapia doesn't complement Frelick well but maybe makes it easier to DH Yeli more down the road.
  3. I am officially on the fire the hitting coaches bandwagon. What a putrid showing, it's not like there was even quality pitching from the A's today. On top of that Counsil challenges an obvious catchers interference and than doesn't bunt Montasario in the 10th.
  4. Lower markets can compete but the problem is only for so long, every 3-5 years a higher performing lower market team has to develop a new team. You can stay competitive but just not with the same base, lower market teams have to hit on trades to send quality players to those big market teams to stay competitors (IE the Rays). The alternative is to go for it for a couple years maxing out a young cores timeframe add in some vets and then lose the young guys to free agency for nothing and face a long rebuild (IE Royals, Cubs (not that the cubs are a small market).
  5. 5 of the first 6 batters reached base then like 4 baserunners the last 25 outs. This offense really doesn't make any adjustments. The bullpen meltdown stinks, especially since Rea was cruising and only threw 84 pitches.
  6. We need a middle of the order bat bad. If it is a DH, OF, or 1B (move Rowdy to DH). At this point we have enough pitching when guys come back but a solid lefty option would be great. I am not for trading any of our top 12 or so prospects for a rental type and can't see a great fit for any other big bat. My ideas 1) CJ Cron and Brad Hand for Carlos Rodriguez (OF) and Ethan Small 2) Mark Canha for Tyrone Taylor or a prospect like Logan Henderson Neither Cron or Canha are auto mid order guys but both would have high upside and have huge effects vs. LHP. Hand gives us a better lefty option with late inning and playoff experience.
  7. His offspeed offerings have looked amazing. Add in consistent upper 90's and he might have the highest ceiling of any pitching prospect we've had.
  8. I think hitter will adjust to him here now that there is a pattern. Hopefully he is experienced enough to adjust to the adjustments. I would send Rea down before him when Miley is back.
  9. I would definitely send Turang and Toro/Brousseau down before Monte. Turang needs to re calibrate and Monte has been huge. I read somewhere that Frelick should be back the 3rd week of June and Keston shortly after that. Those could be big boosts come July.
  10. Agree, why add on unneeded future risk. If he was pitching better I would say sure but he is far from a sure thing long term.
  11. I think of Frelick more as a ceiling like Johnny Damon and a floor of Podsednik. I wouldnt rush to trade him but if there was a big bat that took him I would be ok with it.
  12. I like the idea of saving money on the 1st pick or 2 with college players and then getting the highest quality arm or 2 possible after. With only reading 50 or so draft scouting reports here is what I would hope for. 1) Jake Gelof 3B, He has big power and walks as much as he k's. I don't think there is a ton of difference between him and the higher ranked 3B college bats. MLB.com ranks him 42 so we could save a bunch on this pick. 1 COMP) Cole Carrigg C/SS/OF A high end athlete who can play SS, CF, and C, not to mention switch hit. This seems like a perfect guy to have with Contreras down the road. He has 60 speed, and at 6'3" there could be a little more power to come. Ranked at 45 he might take a little bit less than slot. 2) Alex Clemmey LHP A 6'6" 205 lbs. lefty who throws 98-99 with high spin, sign me up. This really could be 1 of 10 or so pitchers who could drop. He is ranked 50th but might take a bit more to sign, A younger left handed version of Misi 3) Mac Horvath 3B/OF 22 hr and 24 sb at UNC. Probably will strike out to much but the tools are great for the 3rd round. 4)Cole Miller RHP Back to taking the most interesting arm available at this point, maybe some higher ranked players fall and we still have some cash to sign them. 5-10 College players (JuCo) I haven't read enough on anyone outside of the top 100 or so on mlb.com scouting reports to have any favorites.
  13. Don't rush him, if he was hitting .300 and taking walks I would be onboard, however AA seems like the right spot for him. If he gets hot for a week or two later in the year a AAA promotion wouldn't be crazy by any means. I would guess he is maybe a candidate for a call-up around this time next year if things go well.
  14. I think he can be one of those risers in the rankings but I can't say I know what or how hard he throws. If he can get to the 95 mph range he has some potential, but his college stats are meh and aside from his ERA his other stats aren't great either for a 23 and a half year old in high A. At 6'4" 230 he is probably already filled out, my guess is that he is a nice organizational guy maybe along the lines of Alec Bettinger.
  15. Urias for Turang, depending on how long Willy is out and when Urias is ready. Perkins for Weimer, at least long enough to get the extra year of control. Abraham Toro for Tyrone in a week or so if Taylor doesn't start hitting. Singleton for Wonker. Keston when ready. Do it all on the same day to make a point.
  16. No to Hicks, he has been awful for 3 years and that is in Yankee Stadium. Blake Perkins has played well enough in AAA to come back up. He wouldn't be much better but can take some walks. We did sign Roman Quinn who can probably be like Jonathan Davis last year. Give Weimer and Turang a couple weeks.
  17. I would be ok with like a 1 year extension and say 5/6 million but not much more or longer. With Miller playing well and Urias close to being back Anderson should be in RF more. He has had a nice year but is still just an average player in my mind.
  18. Any chance we could make this a bullpen type game? Have an opener, then Teheren goes once through the order and get a couple from Miller and Wilson. I'd perfer this over than just hoping Teheren goes 5+.
  19. I posted in a different thread that we could trade Adames when Urias comes back move Turang to SS have Miller and Urias at 2B/3B (with Anderson to help). Here are some The Red Sox and Dodgers (maybe Braves if Arcia goes back to normal self) are the only contenders who are in need of a SS upgrade, however the Giants, Marlins, and maybe Angels could use an upgrade if the play a smidge better and stay in contention. Adames to Dodgers for Nick Nastrini, Emmett Sheehan, and Maddox Bruns With the Dodgers having some pitching health issues and Adames' consistency issues Stone, Miller, and Pepiot are probably off the table. In this case we get the next best 3 arms all with some high end potential. I probably like this best from a talent stand point but none of these pitchers are likely ready to contribute come the deadline. Adames to Dodgers for LHP Victor Gonzalez and Michael Busch In this trade we get an immediate upgrade in the pen with Gonzalez and a mlb ready bat in Busch who could play 2B (maybe OF or 1B). The Dodgers has lefty pen depth and Adames would likely block Busch farther. Adames and Colin Rea to Red Sox for Nick Yorke and Bryan Bello I like Yorke a little better than Rafeala or Mikey Romero but he might be a tad to much like Tyler Black. Adames and Tyrone Taylor to Giants for Kyle Harrison, Randy Rodriguez, and Hayden Birdsong. I like McCray and Brown but can't see us getting more OF propsects. Harrison is probably untouchable but is the only thing I can see working (I don't like Luciano at all) Adames to Miami for Dax Fulton and Khalil Watson This is another deal were we get a couple nice prospects but no help this year. The Marlins don't have much of interest that they would likely part with if they want Willy. Probably one of the Dodger deals would make the most sense like we've though all year.
  20. I wouldn't do a complete sell of unless the wheels really fall off. If we are still in contention come the deadline it would be super detrimental to the fan base to rock the boat. The only big move that would make sense to me is trading Willy or Burnes (if they straighten things out). When Urias comes back we could trade Willy for some young mlb ready arms and move Turang to SS, Urias to 2B, and Miller to 3B. Trading Burnes would be tough but we should get Lauer and Woody back by then and maybe Ashby or Miley. However we would still be taking away from our best chance at competing in the playoffs taking from the big 3 starters.
  21. I like Small as an eventual bullpen piece who could maybe work back into starting if he develops a 3rd pitch more. Not to hot on Teheren, I am sure the hope is that he can give us 4-5 starts until Woody is back. However he has an era over 5 and his arm is toast (at least it was a couple years ago). I agree I would much rather see one of 6-7 minor league guys get a chance and that probably includes Justin Jarvis or Carlos Rodriguez straight from AA over Julio(4-5 AAA guys then the 2 AA).
  22. I am getting tired of this team not being able to hit, for the past 3+ years we haven't been close to having a .300 hitter, hopefully Owen can break that if he get enough ab's (and does slump like the later part of last year). Batting Leaders over .250 last 3 years 2023= Yeli .258, Rowdy .250 (Miller is about 50 ab's short of qualifying) 2022= Renfroe .255, Yeli .252, Wong .251 2021= Adames .285 (.262 including time with Rays), Wong .272, Narvaez .266, Garcia .262 2020=Arcia .260 That is super sad, also the only home grown talent on that list is Arcia, which didn't work out. Obviously there is a major flaw in how our system develops young bats, On top of that, the guys we get from other organizations seem to get worse at the plate every progressive year after we acquire them. I have high hopes that our young guys can hit over .250 consistently and a few will be routine .300 hitters. I have been against making a big trade for a bat but every day I lean more towards trading for a reliable bat.
  23. One thing that is going to make the rule 5 tough for a couple years is that everyone missed the 2020 season (my guess is most going through this year were to far away for the minor league cap). So guys will be a little farther developmentally behind. If a guy like Varland had an extra year of development and had been in AAA last year he might have been worth the risk. Thankfully he blew up in a 9-1 game and didn't cost us a game. I like the current form but maybe make it so you can option the rule 5 to the minors like 1 time for 15 days or so.
  24. Owen miller is the only guy consistently hitting. I agree however Adames should be 7 or 8. He swung at 2 pitches a foot outside.
  25. It was a fine start, Rowdy playing poor defense at 1st. That play is worse than an error in my opinion because he didn't even try.
