2025-26 Offseason Around the League Thread
jay87shot replied to sveumrules's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
As Matt said, Rodriguez must be a mess from the injuries because 1 year of Ward for 3 years of Rodriguez a #2 potential starter seems like a bad deal for Balt.. Even if Rodriguez isn't the same I still like this deal for the Angels, if Rodriguez never does anything they can at least spend the 13 million Ward was owed on a different free agent who is impactful as Ward. On top of that it opens up playing time for Nelson Rada at some point this year who is a 20 year who played well in AA/AAA last year. It's weird to say but good move Angels. For Baltimore, I can see the Ward appeal but it seems like he blocks some of their young OF or DH candidates for the year. If Rodriguez is cooked then they did ok to get a power bat who is probably a good leader for the younger players even if he only has 1 year of control. -
1) Any chance we could extend Woody or is that to risky? We owe him 32 million this year, I know the team kind of counted the 10 million buyout a last year expense but it is on the books. Could we try for like 3/60 and spread everything out and maybe defer like 10 million over 5 years. 2) Could we still trade Woody? The Blue Jay's traded a borderline top 100 prospect (Khal Stephens) for half a year of Shane Bieber who hadn't pitched. If we could get some type of decent value I would prefer to trade Woody over Peralta. 3) If by chance we keep both Peralta and Woody how do we deal with pitching overcrowding? Peralta, Woody, Priester, Misi, Patrick, Henderson. Gasser, Myers with Ashby, Hall, CaRod, Crow is crazy depth. I cant really see us keeping both vets but some arms likely need to go.

What could Freddy Peralta fetch in a trade?
jay87shot replied to jonescm128's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
The Mets are shopping Kodei Senga, his contract isn't terrible and he could be part of an interesting return for Freddy. I get he has injury concerns and his control/innings per start aren't great but he is a top of the rotation arm. Would Senga, Sproat, Mauricio, and a younger prospect for Freddy and Megill (both mostly offset the Senga contract). Would you upgrade one of the younger guys. -

If it would be truly the best package and return I wouldn't have a problem with it. I get that they are the biggest obsticle to a ship right now. However if they want to overpay for Freddy I am ok with it because they would just move on and trade for a different high end pitcher. Therefore we would still have to face a big name starter instead of Freddy and would have gotten a potentially smaller return. I would make a team like the Dodgers or Cubs massively overpay if it is decided that we would trade Freddy. That being said I don't think we will trade him and if we do I think that other teams would offer us better packages anyway. -
I agree he has the stuff and ability but at this point he has throw 25 innings in 3 years. I would at least start him on 1 or 2 inning outings and be extra careful about overusing him. I would be very hesitant at pushing him to over like over 75 pitch games just to get some consistent health and work in.

My guess would be that they would extend him right away but yeah I don't see them doing that even through they don't have many needs. -
I am interested in seeing Knoth and Woodward and at least where they are velo wise. I wrote thos somewhere else but I think Woodward in the pen is a good idea. Another arm injury might be it for him but in the pen he will likely be around 100 and can move fast.

2025-26 Offseason Around the League Thread
jay87shot replied to sveumrules's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Naylor hit almost .300 this year and in 2023. He also somehow stole 30 bases last year. Naylor's has been getting better and Rhys hasn't. I think 5 years is a bit long but he is only 29 so he should be productive throughout. -

I know the Dodgers have enough pitching bit with all the injuries Freddy could be the best ever 5th/6th starter with Yama/Ohtani/Snell/Glasnow/Sasaki. I seriously doubt the Dodgers would go after pitching but like I said the injuries could create an opening. I would hate to give the Dodgers more but Freddy for Emmett Sheehan and Alex Freeland (or one of their other top 6/7prospects) would be a haul that would be hard to turn down. -
I doubt we pay any money for anyone. Really it would be the 64 innings from Woody and 131 from Quintana that would need to be covered. Between Misi, Henderson, and then bigger roles for Ashby, Myers, and/or Hall those innings will be easy to cover in theory. If we add an arm or two I would be certain they are cheap pitchers with question marks. Here are the 3 at the top of my list. 1)German Marquez He is only 31 and averaged 95 on his fastball. Getting him out of Coors and into a multi inning role in Milwaukee would be huge. I can't imagine he would cost much at all and would be very low risk high reward. 2) Jon Gray He is probably hurt most of next year so he would need a 2 year deal but similar to Marquez there is still a good arm here with some upside in a move to the bullpen/multi-inning role. 3) Jordan Romano Another upside arm with struggles in 2025, I think he is the type of guy our staff would do really well with if given some time (AAA/minor league deal) to add a 3rd pitch. I think I would turn Ashby into a starter and go Freddy, Misi, Preister, Patrick, Henderson, Ashby as a 6 man rotation with 2 of Myers, Gasser and Hall as multi-inning guys. If there are a couple days off in a week we could always piggyback Henderson and Ashby to save the pen some.

I like most of those guys, however I doubt another team drafts any of them and keeps them on the roster all year. Childers has the arm to get picked but with limited AAA experience and success I doubt he gets picked or and lasts.

I would love Buxton, I brought it up and got dumped on a bit a month or 2 ago. I think the contact is manageable and that with Yeli we could kind of 60/40 the 2 between LF and DH and preserve the health of both. At 32, with 3 years left he is a steal. He had a near 5 WAR season in 126 games with below average CF defense (-5 drs). My thought would be that he would still be a plus LF adding to his value and that DH'ing him twice a week would help with his health. With Joe Ryan, Ryan Jeffers, and Pablo Lopez all likely to be gone I can't see why he would want to stay on a team that is going to stink the rest of his contract. I would try and offer Pratt, DL Hall, Carlos Rodriguez, and Issac Collins for Buxton (and maybe a bullpen arm like Justin Topa). The Twins get 2 starters who can start this year and have some upside. They get Collins to be a leader and help that young lineup (strange to think he would be a vet on that team with 1 year under his belt), Plus the big upside of Pratt. We really don't lose anything we can't fill in for. Collins would be replaced by Buxton, Hall and CarRod are important depth but with our strong AA pitchers from last year in AAA we can relace them easily, and Pratt is a tough trade but Made, Pena and the overall IF prospect depth makes that a easier trade. In all likelihood, the Twins would probably push to turn Hall or CarRod into a higher upside prospect like Letson which I could be tempted into, I do think Buxton is someone that almost every team would check in on. I could even see the Pirates and Marlins looking into him (no trade clause aside) so the price is going to be uncomfortable for someone with his injuries.
-
I am on board with running it back with Collins, Chourio, and Sal as our main 3 starters. I would love to trade Perkins for whatever prospect we can get and have Mitchell, Lockridge, and Yeli as OF depth with Black and/or Bauers as emergency (with some minor league AAA free agents). It would be great to get a CF upgrade but it doesn't seem like there are great options for that.
-
I think Vaughn should have a really nice year, I doubt we get .308/.375/.869 but it think .275/.350/.800 with 20-25 HR and 85-90 rbi's is realistic. That should provide enough to be stabile and I really like the idea of Blake Burke and Luke Adams platooning 1B and eventually DH'ing when Yeli is gone (28?)

Running 2026 MLB Draft Thread
jay87shot replied to wiguy94's topic in MLB Draft & International Signings
It is crazy it has been 12 years since we fully developed a solid high school arm (I had to look it up) and a bullpen one at that. I really like the way we have done it, the likelihood hitting on 5 lower level arms that still have good upside vs. 1 or 2 higher level arms seems better to me. Especially with the likelihood of injuries through the minors. To be honest, I wouldn't mind seeing us take more HS arms in the 4-10 range if they find guys that they like and know will sign at say 750k. -
I would think that if Luis Severino got 3/67 last year that is almost a guarantee on what Woody should get at minimum. Severino through a bit harder but Woody has a better track record and overall better track record. Obviously a team will do extensive mdeical checks but if he is truly 100% healthy a starter of his caliber should get around $25 million. Especially if he gains a mph or two back being farther removed from surgery and having a full offseason to work on what he needs to. I would love for him to just accept the QO and force Mark A. to cough up a little extra out of his pocket this year. Do player options count toward the total of the $50 million threshold. My guess would be that team options would (just buyouts/guarenteed money) and that a player option should.

We haven't talked about CJ Abrams recently, he is probably the only higher upside SS (maybe 2B) that would be available on the market. I will admit he isn't my favorite player but the talent is high enough to be a big upgrade potentially. We would probably have to give up Pratt/Henderson (top 100), Letson/Adams/Payne/Fischer/Dinges (near top 100), and Ortiz (SS replacement) and maybe a smaller 4th piece and that is if there isn't a bidding war. I wouldn't be completely against that because I think Abrams has some upside still if he can go to a better org.. However I think he doesn't play good enough defense or walk enough to fully fit our team structure and player mold. I wouldn't be against getting him for a year and even trading him next offseason if the price was right and Made/Pratt look ready.

In my opinion, I think Durbin and Collins have a little more potential just by maintaining consistency. However I doubt either evers hits 20HR. If they could get 35ish 2B's in a year that would be the best way to take the next step. I do like the idea of getting a high end OF'er and then moving Collins to 2B and Turang to SS. Ortiz would make a good potential utility IF with 2 lefties. I was a bit lower on Patrick but he really proved something to me in the playoffs. There are some Woody vibes (not the same stuff) but I can see him have some low 3 era seasons with 180-200 innings and 200 ks.
-
How would you evaluate the potential of Chad Patrick, Issac Collins, and Caleb Durbin???? I think if I asked about Misi and Henderson it would be pretty unanimous that Misi has ace potential and Henderson has potential to be a Freddy Peralta style starter. However Collins and Patrick weren't really even top 30 prospect and Durbin really wasn't until last year's AFL. I guess my question is can these 3 take another step forward? If you take Durbin and Collins bad month out (Durbin's first and Collins last) both were well above average hitters with 15 HR potential over 500 abs and 20-30 sb. Add in solid to plus defense and the upside is pretty tantalizing. However both could be due for some regression just based on prospect status and not necessarily strong avg. velo. If they improve like you would expect most rookie does anyone think 20/30 seasons with like 5 WAR are possible. With Patrick I was really impressed with him all season, even when unfairly demoted to AAA because of the overcrowded roster and he had options. He did average over a k an inning and showed some extra gas in the playoffs out of the pen. Is he someone who can get to the low 3s era wise or does he become more of an Adriam Houser type which was probably what most of us thought of him as a prospect?
-
Yes, for sure but if you are looking to upgrade the offense 2B/SS and OF are really the only great options and there are more high OF options available. In my opininion if we could get a quality OF'er it wouldnt be that hard to sell high on Isaac Collins. CJ Abrams is probably the only high end MI and will cost a ton.
-
3 team ideas Brewers get Duran Red Sox get McKenzie Gore Nats get Ashby, Collins, Red Sox lower level prospect, Brewers lower level prospect. We would get a big OF upgrade without giving up Freddy, there is some downside in giving up Ashby but we can overcome that likely. You could do the same package but swap in Joe Ryan for Gore, you could also swap Henderson for Ashby if preferred. Maybe this could be Sandy Alcantara to Boston as well with Miami wanting a slightly different mix of players Brewers get Edward Cabrera Marlins get DL Hall and 2 Padres prospects Padres get Megill I have said that if the team does end up trading Freddy that I would love to try and get Edward Cabrera as a cheaper top of the rotation potential arm that could help Misi, Priester, and the rest up top. I think this could be a potential steal if the Padres have anything left to trade.

I wonder how far down the road the front office looks when thinking about moves. I really doubt that there is much if any moves this offseason 1 big move would be nice in my opinion. However next offseason could see mass changes. 2027 offseason moves decisions Free Agents=Vaughn, Peralta 1 year left= Contreras, Megill Add in solid raises to guys who will be hitting arbitration for the 1st time, our top prospects will be close (likely pushing out Ortiz), and the unknown of the collective bargaining. I could see a bunch of potential smaller moves set to position us for next offseason. I would think a potential Megill or Peralta trade being the most talked about but maybe an odd ball move that at first doesn't make sense but will in the long run (no ideas as of now)
-
Duran had a 4.7 WAR, it was down from his monster 2024 (8.7 WAR) but I wouldnt called it a down year. I agree Duran could be the odd man out or at least the best piece they have to add pitching or MI help.
-
It will be interesting to see how the pitcher market shakes out. There are quite a few free agent options and potential trade options. I would think there would need to be a bidding war on Freddy for the price to get where we would move him. Duran would be a perfect LF for our team. I wonder if there would be a deal for Duran that would not include Freddy.
