  1. I wouldnt hate this deal, I would guess the Mets wouldnt trade Elian Pena just based on age and how good his dsl was. There is top top prospect potential there, maybe not quite Made because he is a bit older but close. I would in most instances want to make 2 seerate trades but since we would be getting better quality I would be OK with it. Maybe to make it a bit closer to what the Mets would be willing to give up I would try Tong, Sproat, Mauricio, Edward Lantigua It would be Tong and Mauricio for Freddy (pretty close to the Burnes value) and Sproat and Lantigua for Megill. We probably don't need 2 mlb ready pitchers but it would help cover the bases. My guess though is that Steans would probably just go sign someone like Framber Valdez and trade for a cheaper pen arm like Pete Fairbanks than give up those young arms and young prospects.
  2. Here are my thoughts 1)Put in a hard salary cap that is a little high to start and reign it in, say like $300 million but dont move it for like 3/4 years. The mlb could flip the script and incentivize teams that spend over say $200 instead of punish them with draft picks or more int. money. 2)Add in a salary floor, start at like $100 million and go up like 3-5% per year. I think there needs to be a better way to revenue share, however with TV contracts being so different and regional that is a tough idea. Maybe as we see more games on streaming the mlb can revenue share better to supplement the new market 3) Add 2 new teams and re-organize the divisions so there are 8 divisions of 4. This should create more revenue and excitement. Who doesn't love a good expansion draft. 4)Reduce arbitration control by 1 year, as much as it pains me as small market teams like the Brewers need the extra cheap control this is the easiest way to get the players union on board and have young stars making under $1 for the first 2-3 years isn't a great look. 5)Reduce contract lengths, I don't mind long deals but some of the 12-15 year deals we are seeing is ridiculous. Make it a cap of like 7 years and add in a clause that each team is allowed to have 1 "Franchise" player contract that can extend to like 10 years. 6) All teams play 1 foriegn country series/field of dreams/little league. You could allow the top 5 teams that spend the most money the option to pick where they want to go (not who they play) as a little incentive for those top teams who will get hurt by a salary cap. 7)International point system, I don't have this worked out at all but essentially for players over like 21 each team gets like say 100 points for like a 5 year period. Then an independent arbitrator assigns all over 21 players a value, say like Yamamoto or Sasaki would have been 50 points and a lesser guy who has to play in the minors a while is worth like 5. That way the Dodgers don't end up with the Japanese all-star team in a couple years. I would add players between 18-21 get added to the mlb draft and int. players under 18 keep the same system of pool money.
  3. I think Mahle will cost at least double that, he had a 2.18 era in 16 starts. I am pretty sure he is healthy, at least it looked like he made a start or 2 in September. I like Joe Ryan a lot but my guess is that it would take a package that gets close to what the Red Sox gave up for Crochet to get him.
  4. His minor league strikeout numbers look pretty good. It might take some work to keep him on the 40man all summer but it looks like a Hoby style pitcher to me.
  5. You are probably right however I would guesstimate that he would be in the range of 2-24 to 3-45 after last year, whereas if he had a really good year he could have made a case for like Hader money. So if he wants to bet on himself he could take a 1 year deal to get back to that top tier money. However I will concede that someone like the Dodgers would give him 1/15 guaranteed and in that case and my incentive idea doesn't work.
  6. Trade Freddy and Perkins to Boston for Jarren Duran Boston adds to the rotation and clears up their OF logjam. We get 3 years of a young top tier LF who checks all the Brewer boxes. Then go big Aaron Ashby, Trevor Megill, and Issac Collins for Ketel Marte. The Dbacks get 3 impact players for a big time talent that may be on the outside in the club house. Sign Devin Williams 1/6 with incentives to 15 million Devin's underlying numbers were still good and with Megill on the move in the previous trade would add some late inning experience. He could build himself back up in Milwaukee for a better run at free agency. Turang, Chourio, Yelich, Marte, Contreras, Duran, Vaughn, Frelick, Durbin would be crazy better. Those deals also leave the farm systems almost untouched and even though the rotation lacks an ace it is extremely deep and talented.
  7. I say go with Quintana, the vet likely has the best chance of pulling something out his behind. On top of that after seeing Misi and our other flame throwers yesterday Q's 90-93 should have them of balance.
  8. I would think we could get value pretty close to what we got for Burnes. Corbin had a higher ceiling with a Cy Young but Freddy has been ultra consistent and reliable and makes like 1/2 what Burnes made. I think we could get one of the Mets mlb ready pitching prospects and IF. Say like Brandon Sproat and Ronny Mauricio or Jonah Tong and Mitch Voit. Obviously a bidding war would be nice.
  9. I guess when I said overpaying I was thinking more like in a trade. I do agree that Naylor would be towards/at the top of the FA list for me as well, even with Vaughn.
  10. I don't know what percentage of owners are needed to pass things but my guess is that around 15-20 teams would probably be in favor of a more firm cap just because there are around that many teams that won't likely be over the cap. So even though the Dodgers, Yankees, Phillies, Mets of the world will be super against it I do think there is a decent chance the votes could be passed.
  11. I agree, I am glad someone else started this. By my count the Dodgers currently pay 365 million a year (avv) to non arbitration players (near $400 with arby) 14 players over 10 million per year compared to our 2, 7 players over 20 per 1 to our 1. Basically the only home grown talent is Will Smith, Kershaw, Pages, Sheehan, Dreyer, Vesia, Caperius. If you want to give them credit for the development of Max Muncy I would be ok with that. I just don't see how they can't put in better salary cap, on top of that they should also put in a salary floor so teams like the Pirates, A's, and Marlins (among others) aren't consistently ripped off by cheap ownership. Maybe put in a rule where owners who make over a certain amount in profit lose portions of there revenue sharing.
  12. After the 2 past games I am all for overpaying for a big bat or two. I know I am over-reacting but eh.
  13. I like just keeping Made on the Chourio path, AA this year with some AAA later in the year if he looks good. If he looks like we all think next year then give him an early big extension. With Ortiz, Pratt, Mone, and Turang we don't really need to move him to fast.
  14. I only looked through some names and season stats but here are a couple names and player profiles I like that aren't super highly ranked SS Jaxon Willits, Oklahoma https://threequarterslot.com/2025/07/20/2026-mlb-draft-jaxon-willits-ss-oklahoma/ Eli Willits big brother, so really good pedigree, looks like solid speed and power and started as a freshman at SS in OKL probably means a solid glove. Through 2 solid showing in the Cape league and he seems to have a pretty high floor. Probably not a 1st round pick at this point???? P Tegan Kuhns, Tennessee https://threequarterslot.com/2023/09/05/2024-mlb-draft-tegan-kuhns-rhp-chambersburg-area-hs/ Was a key bullpen member in for a really good vols team, was throwing 93-94 out of HS at 6'3" 175. I am just thinking this is a guy who will take of when the season starts maybe not quite to the level of Liam Doyle.
  15. It is definitely early but I thought could be good time to start next years draft thread. Especially if anyone interesting pops https://www.mlb.com/news/top-20-college-prospects-2026-mlb-draft-class https://www.justbaseball.com/mlb-draft/mlb-draft-top-college-prospects/ https://threequarterslot.com/2025/09/08/2026-mlb-draft-rankings-college-top-100/
  16. I would have thought Hall for Gasser would make sense but basically they are pretty similar so kind of a wash for me.
  17. No, he just got hurt at the wrong time and Bauers and Vaughn have bumped him out. Lockridge as a pinch runner and extra OF with injuries is more valuable than like the 3rd PH option.
  18. I don't think Kim is worth 1/16, that being said the Braves at the very least feel like he is worth 1/16 so I would think that should be his baseline. Unless the Braves pivot and no one else believes he is worth that.
  19. I think Kevin Youkilis is a better comp., Adams is more athletic but likely won't hit .300 like Youkilis did a few years. With the high walks and HBP he will at the very least be a really good platoon player, I think that eventually he and Burke split 1B and DH (after Yeli). I would guess they try and start getting Adams a little OF time so can maximize versatility (1B/3B/OF). His first couple years I feel like I remember a stat that he hit a ton of pop-ups. I am not sure where he was this year, but early in his career it seemed like leveling his swing out would add a ton to his offensive profile. We definitely saw the power start to come through in games better this year.
  20. 1)Ashby/Priester 2)Peralta 3)Patrick/Misi 4)Bullpen (Quintana if need bulk innings 5) Ashby/Priester 6)Peralta 7)Patrick/Misi/Q (all hands on deck) I think a big thing in the 7 game series is to not overuse the same relievers. If the same part of the lineup sees a guy 4 or 5 times it gets rough to fool anyone.
  21. I like having Megill start, I would maybe have gone Uribe since he could maybe throw 2 innings. Megill has been good the 2 games he has pitched and being the closer is probably most used to the big moment at the beginning of the game. I don't have any real issues with the lineup. If Murph thinks Ortiz and Perk with the extra defense are worth the start, I am fully on board.
  22. Munetaka Murakami is suppose to be posted today. I would guess that the Dodgers are far and away the favorites and Murakami will get a big bag based on age and his 2022 season. I will say he would be a guy I would move Turang to SS and Durbs to 2B for. Then in 27 he could move to 1B when Vaughn is a FA.
  23. Semien's contract would make more sense and the cost to acquire him would be way less but also his bat has been in decline the past couple years. He might not be a bad option if the club is making to make a splash after all the better big name options are signed or moved.
  24. I am excited to see Dylan O'Rae on the team, I didn't remember seeing him on the roster. Good to see he is healthy.
  25. Seager was brought up a couple days and it would have to be like Yelich, Ashby, and maybe like Henderson or Pratt. That would be a pretty tough sell probably for Texas and in Milwaukee, especially when a team like the Yankees or Dodgers would give up more prospects and not have problems with Seager's contract.
