CP had a 3.53 FIP and I would say got better as the year went on. Freddy had a 3.64 FIP and got traded to a team that is going to have a rough defense. Great point.

I am pretty sure Montgomery is going to be like a 1 year 2-3 million dollar minor league deal, maybe there is a team option for like 6-10 million with a small buyout for 2027. I would guess he will cost less than what we gave Q last year. I do like Monty as a depth signing alot.
-
I could get on board with that, as you said we would need a place to send Jimmy.
-
I agree, there are a lot of things that need to change to get excitment back into the team. I will still always keep track and watch games when I see they are on, however I likely won't make any plans to watch games maybe other than a big rookies 1st game or something like that.

I am kind of liking a GSW trade more and more, obviously other teams have better young talent but from what I have read GSW and Minny have been the team mentioned recently (probably Knicks, Portland as well) that seem really interested. GS told Jimmy Butler he is staying put but I think this 3 team deal could work. GSW= Giannis, Boston=Draymond We get=Simons, Kuminga, Pod, Boston 2026 1st, 4 1st from GSW We get 2 young players and cap relief from Simons, and 5 total 1st, the 1st couple GSW picks are probably trash but if we could get like there 2031/32 picks (swap) those could be really good. This would also be dependant on another team want to take a chance on Draymond. I think for the Celtic they need some big guy help and Draymond would fit well potentially into that roster. I still like the idea of other teams better but am warming up to Golden State The heat might be my leaders right now however. If we could do something like this Miami=Giannis, KPJ, Thanasis Atlanta=Herro Us= Porzingis (trade after deal), Ware, Rozier, Jakukonious, NO 1st from Atl, 2028 Atl 1st (confusing triple swap already), 2 1st Heat 2028/2030 and 2 swaps with heat 2029/2031 We would get 2 young players, lots of cap relief (depending on what we could get for Porzingis) and a boatload of picks. The Heat would be taking on a lot of risk especially without a ton of backcourt depth but KPJ, Powell, Wiggins, Jaquez, Giannis, Bam would compete with anyone in the East. Herro would be a huge add for the Hawks and the shooting would fit well into there young core.

I will say I side with Durbin on the basis that I think he will improve this year, when you take out his 1st 100 ab's or so he was great. I think there is a good chance he hit like .270/.350/.400 this year with 15 HR and 25 sb. Where I can't see Suarez getting 49 bombs again, even if he played in AFF. I think if you predict Suarez to hit 35 HR and around 100 rbi's the intangibles Durbin brings offset the massive power boost. Also Durbin seemingly fits in with the team and young guys really well (not that Suarez couldn't). If we didn't have Yeli at DH I think getting Suarez would have been much more plausible and he could have just played 3B and maybe 1B occasionally but that wouldn't have been the case.
-
I think this is an interesting potential debate. Suarez signed for 1/15 with the Reds yesterday and that seems very light for a player who hit 49 bombs last year. There is no doubt that Suarez's big bat would have looked amazing in our lineup however I think Durbin may likely have a better year than Suarez when everything is said and done, there is no doubt Saurez's thunder in the bat is a massive advantage. Here is a base number comparision of 2025. Durbin (currently 25) .256/.334/.721 11 HR 53 RBI 25 2B 18 SB 30BB/50K 101 ops+, +2 baserunning (savant), +5 defensive runs saved (baseball-reference). 136 games (506 pa), 2.8 WAR (reference) Suarez (currently 34) .228/.298/.824 49 HR 118 RBI 28 2B 4 SB 46BB/196 K 126 ops+, -3 baserunning, -6 defensive runs saved, 159 games (657 pa), 3.6 WAR I am sure you could go into some of the hard hit data and that would highly favor Suarez and if you went into contact and chase data that would likely favor Durbs. If you add in the 25 games or so Durbin spent in the minors both guys WAR would be very close. I get that money becomes an issue but for the sake of argument lets just pretend we could have afforded Suarez (I sure there probably could have been a way) and money isn't part of the issue. Also take out any long term control issues. For 2026, would you rather have had Suarez or Durbin?

I would say Lara should 100%, he played well in AA in almost every aspect and guys like Baddoo, Berroa, Lockridge, Jones, and Black in AAA may congest the OF but I would make Lara the everyday CF. Pratt probably could start in AA but having Made there makes it a bit difficult since ideally both should get alot of SS playing time. I wouldn't have a problem with Pratt in AA especially since he is from Mississippi and being close to home for even a month or two would probably be good for him. That being said him starting in the hitter friendly confines of Nashville I think would be likely a better confidence boost, especially since he did have a decent year in AA.
-
I think Williams should play like just pure utility in AAA. Not because I want him to be a utility but because we have other AAA players. Pratt should play 66% SS, some 3B, and maybe DH occasionally. Lara should play 66% CF with the rest in a corner. Leaving 1/3 SS, 1/3 CF, 1/3 LF/2B/DH. That way if he is needed in the at short or CF he is ready for both and if other injuries happen he could be ready at 2B or LF quickly. It also always Lara and Pratt to maximize there potentials especially since both are regarded as better defenders than Williams.

I would only trade Megill for a legit CF with some control. I don't think that is out there right now, so I would just keep him.

How Can Caleb Durbin Improve in 2026?
jay87shot replied to Steve Drumwright's topic in Brewer Fanatic Front Page News
I think there are 2 things that are obvious to me for a Durbs improvement. 1)Get of to a better start. I dont have the numbers but his 1st 100-150 abs weren't vert good so just those abs probably pull his batting numbers down. 2) Less pop-ups/lazy fly balls. Again I dont have the numbers but he seemed to get pull/pop-up happy at times. Maybe it is just perception, however a little leveling of his swing cut hopefully turn a popup into a 2B here or there. -
Contreras and Megill are obvious based on our track record of trading high end players with 1 year of control. Otherwise I agree with Ashby wholehearted, if he is a reliever he still has great value but we don't pay relievers. Ashby is better than Jose Ferrer in most every facet of pitching (maybe not control) and has starting potential, Ferrer got Harry Ford one of my favorite catching prospects. I would guess we could get 2 quality pieces for him next offseason if he pitches well and the front office deems him tradeable. I would add Joey Ortiz on the potential trade front as well, with Made, Pratt, and Jett all knocking on the door there could be a good chance he could be moved next year. If he plays well but not spectacular he could be moved, say he hits .250/.300/400 (with gold glove level defense) that would be a big improvement but not enough to hold anyone off if they mash in the minors.

I am kind of thinking that we will end up sign a guy like we did Quintana last year. A starter who falls through the cracks and in March needs to sign somewhere. I am positive Valdez, Gallen, Verlander (would be amazing), Scherzer (ditto), Bassitt, and Giolito will probably get a minimum of 12ish million and not be options. However there will likely be some guys who have a 6-10 million value but get 3-4 million I think Tyler Anderson could be a decent option. If I remember correctly he was very good the 1st half and bad the 2nd. Sugano would be a very similar starter to Anderson and Quintana. I doubt Martinez or Littell would fall to 3-4 but maybe like 6-8 if they fall through the cracks.

I don't mind them waiting to trade Giannis until the offseason if they fire Horst and Doc. I am super worried that Horst is going to trade Giannis for OG and Bridges and get no young assets. However this is Giannis, if Rudy Gobert is worth 4 1st round picks Giannis should get 2 young quality players and expiring contract and a handful of picks. Offers I like Heat- Herro, Ware, Rozier, 2030 and 32 pick swaps (could add 3rd team to take Herro and get another young piece and more picks) I like Ware's upside a bunch and would probably prefer to trade Herro over keeping him as jumpstarting a rebuild. Spurs- Castle and/or Harper, Keldon Johnson, Devin Vassell, multiple picks (maybe Vassel to 3rd team for more picks) Probably the leader in the clubhouse if they would cough up both young guys (I doubt they would). OKC- Hartenstein, Wallace, Topic, Joe and like 6 1st (they have 11 tradable 1st). I doubt the Thunder would mess up there chemistry but have a treasure trove. Houston- Sengun, Shepherd, Finney Smith and picks I think Sengun could be the best young player we could get back and make sense. This could include FVV and some of there other young players like Smith and Eason instead of Sengun. Hawks- Porzingis, Ricasher, Okongwo and picks I doubt the Hawks would move Jalen Johnson and a bunch of other pieces so my logical package leaves him out (would love Johnson, young pieces and picks obviously) The hawks do have the best collection of high end draft picks. Mavs- Cooper Flagg and Anthony Davis (picks) This is a joke because they fired Harrison, but if they repeat a Luka deal ok then. Blazers- Avidji, Scoot, Grant and our picks back I don't think Portland would be all in with the rest of the team being iffy but Avidji and Scoot would be solid young players and our picks back would be nice.

Turner is still an athletic big who can shoot and and protect the rim. Does he have as much value as early in the year, no. However I think if he where available we would definitely get some value, there are a ton of contenders that need a big and not much in the way of quality available unless Zubic or Jaren Jackson are made available, which I doubt. 2 picks from the Celtic that are likely after 25 isn't a huge price for a big Turners quality. I think the issue would be long term salary for Boston since they are a good amount over the cap. However the Celtic would be an easy favorite in the east for years with Pritchard, White, Brown, Tatum, and Turner. Buddy Heild is averaging 17 minutes a game and shooting 34% from 3. He is a ghost of the player he once was. I don't think the Warriors would hesitate to drop him, especially being under contract for 2 more years. The question there is if the Warriors feel KPJ would be the right type of player to play along side Curry and would be enough of a return for Kuminga especially since KPJ will likely opt out and be a FA next year. I doubt anyone gives up a super impressive package for Kuminga but there should be plenty of teams interested since Kuminga is young and has a good upside still.

If everyone develops the way the should I think Pratt ends up being traded next offseason or maybe at the deadline. I think Jett gets a chance at SS and/or CF around midseason this year. In a perfect scenerio here is my 2028 lineup C)Quero/Dinges 1B)Burke/Adams or Fischer 2B) Turang (extension?) SS) Made (by all accounts he has the highest defense ceiling if he develops consistency) 3B)Durbin/Pena (maybe Fischer) RF) Sal CF) Lara/Jett (L/R platoon) LF)Chourio DH)Yeli Utl)Jett, Pena, possibly Fischer Rotation) Misi, Preister, Henderson, Sproat, Patrick, Letson, many other possiblities Pen)Uribe, Yoho, Koenig, again probably to many options to list. This is also not taking into effect whomever we get in likely trades for Contreras next offseason and whomever we would get for trading Pratt. If Pena hits well this year I could see Turang traded in the 2027-28 offseason and the Pena would be 2B and 3B would be Durbs and maybe Fischer. This is also leaving out Josh A, who I think would be ready by 2028, if he continues to rise and plays a good OF maybe Sal could be moved Josh A to LF and Chourio to RF. There are really to many high ceiling prospects to predict to far, I don't think it would be crazy to see guys like Payne or Bitonti have chances to be everyday guys in a couple years if either one has a big 2026 or 27.

Time to blow it up, as much as I hate doing it. Tonight the team looked pretty good on offense and still lost by 17. It will hurt to lose Giannis but this team is just not cohesive. By the time Giannis is back we will be way out of the playoffs picture. Giannis and Thanasis to Atl, Porzingis and Coffey to Miami, We get Ricasher, Okongwo, Rozier, Jakucionus, NO 1st from Atl, and 2 future 1sts Atlanta pairs Giannis with Jalen Johnson, Alexander-Walker, Daniels, McCollum and some future cap space. They likely would need to add a big in a seperate deal. The Heat get Pozingis if he can get healthy for Jakucionis. They can have an elite front court rotation and Jak really isnt in the rotation. We get 3 young upside guys a top 5 pick and a couple more future picks. Turner to Boston for Simons and and 2 future 1sts (maybe top 10 protected) Boston possibly gets Tatum back at the end of the year and adds Turner to a team playing well in need of a big. We get cap relief over the couple years and more picks. Kuminga and Heild for Kuzma and KPJ The Warriors get KPJ to play with Curry in the backcourt and Hield offsets some of Kuzma's bad deal. We take a chance on Kuminga. Portis and Trent to LA Lakers for Rui and 1st. The Lakers need a bit of an edge Portis would help their front court alot. Again we get a later 1st and some cap relief for next year. Rollins, Green, Ricasher, Kuminga, Okongwu with Jak, Heidi, 2 top 10 picks and some cash for a free agent sounds like a decent potential future especially with getting a collection of picks.
-
I think at this point we maybe add a cheap vet arm or two and a vet catcher. Other than that I would save money and prospect in prep of adding someone Ike Buxton or a rotation piece like Alcantara at the deadline. We will no doubt have prospects to add someone of high end valuen and hopefully some control.

Boston still seeking a trade partner
jay87shot replied to Turning2's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
With Jett on board I really wouldnt have interest in Abreu or Rapheala. I dont think the Sox are interested in. trading Duran at this point. I do agree that a 3 team deal would be the only way this makes sense because the Sox are probably looking for 2B or 3B. -
As long as it is mega cheap like the Haase deal. McGuire can catch and had 9 HR in 144 abs, even though he doesn't walk. I could live with that for a couple months which would probably be like 10 starts.
-
In the end it doesn't matter much where our guys rank. I believe Henderson and Quero should both be ranked and Josh A and Fischer are probably close maybe in the top 125. I will say Pena at 26 is maybe a tad high after his A+ struggles, maybe 40ish me. I am sure we are waiting until spring training but any chance we could run a prospect rankings after the trade?
-
I would say Woody, Preister, Misi, Patrick, Henderson, Gasser Sproat gets like 5/6 starts to work on small tweaks in AAA and pushes Gasser to long relief. I think it is almost a guarantee that the org will sign a few cheap free agent vets like Montgomery, Marquez, or Fedde for depth. Especially after all the camp pitching injuries we saw last year.

With Mone, Seigler, and now Williams add I dont see a path to playing time. However as a minor league contract, yes I am all for adding that depth through spring training at least.

I like the idea of German Marquez best, he has a big arm, getting him out of Coors, and being a full year from arm surgery recovery should be huge. He could start or at least be quality option with his stuff playing up in the bullpen.
-
I dont think he is a utility player, he should eventually be a starter. But because the Mets have Lindor he has played 2B and CF quite a bit so is floor is being a high end utility guy. Looking at Sproat's pitch movement chart I think there are a lot of small tweeks the org. will make to unlock his potential. Getting a little vertical drop on the changeup instead of just horizontal movement seems obvious. Watching clips his sweeper and slider really are the same pitcher just the slider is a bit harder with less movement. I almost guarantee they combine that pitch and try and add a harder cutter. As I do more research I am liking Sproat more and more. Williams is going to need to improve his hit tool but I see a more versatile Caleb Durbin with a better balanced swing leading to much more consistent power (58 xbh hits at age 21 last year). I do believe that Williams has been rushed up the ladder a bit as his 2024 was almost a lost year. His AAA numbers last year were pretty bad so there are some adjustments to make. However at some point he has been ranked in the top 30 overall prospects by BA, mlb, and baseball prospective.
