  1. What team would be most motivated and have pieces to trade for Giannis in the offseason? I am kind of hoping the Thunder fall apart in the playoffs and a young team like the Spurs win the Championship. That way there is a better likihood that Thunder would panic and give us like 6 picks for Giannis if we are still thinking of trading him.
  2. With the pitching depth would there be any interest in trading Gasser or Hall when the season starts if we make it through spring healthy? I like both as multi-inning guys but with the young depth we could easily put Henderson, Harrison, or Sproat in that role with a higher upside. The Braves and Twins already are hurting for pitching and there will be likely 4-6 teams that have multiple starters who are injuried by the end of spring. I think it could be a good place to find value especially with the AAA pitching depth we should have. I would prefer to trade DL just because Gasser has a higher ceiling at this point but if we could get a AAA OF I would be intrigued. Hall and Perkins to Minnesota for Gabriel Gonzalez The Twins have Jenkins and Rodriguez ahead of him as prospects and then Buxton in the bigs. Perkins would add to a current iffy OF group and Hall gives them badly needed pitching depth as a reliever or starter. Both guys have control so giving up a decent prospect could work. Gonzalez has been a top 100 prospect who hit very well last year, the tools aren't crazy flashy but he would be a big plus value on two bench guys. He also had some AAA appearances in so when Mitchell gets hurt in May he could be ready to contribute.
  3. I think at this point trading Megill doesn't make sense. I am sure the offers just weren't great, with spring starting you dont want to trade Megill and then have a reliever or two go down. I do think that their could be an opportunity for an early season trade where a big market loses closer and we can fleece someone in like a May/June trade. At that point if Uribe, Koenig, and Ashby/Zerpa are pitching well I don't think to many people would be upset to sell high on him. Mayo for Megill at this point wouldn't be enough of a return maybe Mayo and Bradfield, George, or Gibson. I think we should get a decent amount more for Megill with 2 years than we got for 1 year of Devin.
  4. Yep I am. Patrick over Gasser for sure. Thanks.
  5. I am going to put Ashby's hat in the ring. I would really like to see him get a chance to start again if the club thinks his arm will hold up. With the next 3 years being at 7, 9, and 13 we wont pay him that as a non closer reliever. It might make sense to put him in a multi-inning role and stretch him out mid-season but that seems risky. If Ashby can get his changeup to be a tad better he has ace stuff. I would just go with a 6 man all year. Woody, Ashby, Preister, Harrison. Misi, Gasser. I would give Sproat and Henderson like a month or so in AAA for a couple reasons. 1) Hone in on slight changes, for Henderson working on the 3rd pitch and Sproat making small tweeks 2) Load management, it is only a week or so that AAA starts after the bigs but if you can keep both at 75 pitches for a month it should only help late in the year. 3) Extra year of control, both guys spent around a month on the big league roster and if the stay down for like 6 weeks we gain the all powerful extra year of control. By June, I would expect both to be regular starters over Gasser and either an injury or less effective starter.
  6. This is solid. Hamilton and Rengifo are both decent utility guys. I still kind of like Ortiz at 3B and Turang at SS with those 2 at 2B. Hamilton and Rengifo have both been good defensively at 2B. I have faith Turang will be a good SS so I think this benefits us most. Rengifo does have a .300 year, 17 HR year, and 24 sb year (different years) so there is some solid upside. If Williams proves ready in a month or 2 it is easy to move him to a utility role or find a trade. This is probably the best non big trade move we could have made. I am pretty confident he can hit .250/.300/.400 with decent defense and baserunning. Hamilton has been slightly better against rhp and Rengifo is better against LHP so a platoon could have a nice moneyball effect.
  7. It would include that he is healthy up until that point next year. Buxton was worth about 5 WAR in 128 games, and that is with very subpar defense grades in center. If he shifts to left the value goes up I would assume, every team will likely want a bat like his (if healthy) and at 3/45 or so there is a of lot excess value and a ton of teams can afford him. For me he is close to Kyle Tucker in value (if healthy), so yes I do think that is what he would cost if healthy and performing well by June/July.
  8. Don't look now the bucks are 5-1 and with Nance, Thomas, and Dieng playing well look rejuvenated and dare I say, deep. With the Hawks, Hornets, and Bulls ahead of us (Hawks 1.5 ahead for 10th spot) I do at least temporarily have a better outlook on this team. We are still around a month from Giannis coming back. However if the team can keep it up and mesh when Giannis is back we could give Detriot or a Tatem-less Celtics a run for there money.
  9. Collins/Mears for Zerpa= D+, I think when you look at what we got for Durbin (Kyle Harrison value) giving up Collins a similar player for roughly half of Zerpa is a disappoinment in terms of value. Freddy/Myers for Williams/Sproat=B, I really like Spoat and Williams but throwing in Myers and not getting something back just brings this grade down a bit for me. Durbin/Mone/Seigler/Comp B for Harrison/Hamilton/Drohan= B/incomplete I like the value return of getting upside pitching for hitting however with no obvious 3rd base replacement this grade is incomplete. If we make a nice 3B addition this gets at least a B if not higher. Without a 3rd base add I would bring it down to a C as it does create a worrisome whole. Free Agency= B-, we got catcher depth which is all I really wanted out of the offseason and we added pitching depth in trades. If we could have spend some money this could have been nicer but there isn't anyone obvious to me I would have gone after. I would have loved Murakami at 2/34 (or slightly better) but he doesn't really fit our team great.
  10. What would you give each trade/addition on the grade scale? I don't think we have done one of these. Collins/Mears for Zerpa Freddy/Myers for Williams/Sproat Durbin/Mone/Seigler/Comp B for Harrison/Hamilton/Drohan Signings Sanchez, minor league deals
  11. I was kind of thinking my ETA's as earliest possible situation. I don't think most of the one I put down make a ton of sense. Especially since Contreras (assuming a trade) is the only likely full time player to leave by next year, there is really only room for a couple guys to play consistently. I do agree with all you points.
  12. Yelich, Turang, and Contreras all finish in the top 15 for mvp. The big dawgs do the work and provide consistency for the lineup. Brewers trade for Byron Buxton a month before trade deadline providing a cure to a CF problem (Buxton LF, Chourio CF). (Pratt and Letson plus minor piece or two) Craig Yoho breaks through and provides a nasty 3 headed monster at the end of the game with Megill and Uribe. He throws 40 innings of sub 2.00 era ball. The Brewers have 9 pitchers throw 80 innings all with ERA's under 3.75. None under 3. Quality across the board but we struggle to find an ace. Brewers break camp with 3B Ortiz, SS Turang, 2B Hamilton sign a vet for depth. Williams comes up in June plays a solid 3B, Ortiz/Hamilton platoon 2B rest of way. None of Williams, Hamilton, or Williams are great but all are around .250 batting with quality defense and baserunning.
  13. With pitchers and catchers reporting I think it is a good time for everyone to be bold. Stats, team records, injuries (don't jinx anyone), surprises, prospect surprises, etc.
  14. What if we did it more of a 5 man rotation and then had 2 floating piggyback starters who are planned to pitch every 4 games? So say the starting 5 would be Woody, Misi, Preister, Patrick, Henderson with Hall/Gasser and Harrison as piggyback/planned long relief guys. So week 1 the piggybacks would go with like Misi and Henderson say go 3 innings at 50 pitches and then the next time you would have them slide up a day and piggyback Woody and Patrick. That way each starter can have a slightly shorter start almost every other outing. We would have 7 guys getting more innings and always have 2 guys close to stretched out for starting and make it easy to do a bullpen game. It would still allow for 6 relievers and give space for guys to move up anddown from AAA easily. That would put the starting spots at like a planned 30 starts each with 150-170 innings (split between 6-8 guys) and then the piggybacks get 40 appearances with like 120 innings (maybe split between 3-4 guys). That probably leaves around 400-450 innings for the bullpen which would be doable when you figure guys moving between AAA and the bigs helping out.
  15. With the current state of 3B and question marks at SS and CF what would our current expectations for earliest mlb arrival time be. Usually it seems like teams like to get 200 pa in each level but we could be at critical concerns if 3B doesn't work out, Joey doesn;t hit, and OF gets some injuries or doesn't hit as well. Jett- I know the front office said he will have a chance for an everyday job but I kind of think he will be like Durbin at least 3-4 weeks in AAA to adjust to 3B potentially and to also gain another year of arbitration control. Cooper- July/August Obviously if he starts at AAA and tears it up early he could get a look earlier but I think it would be best for his development to get most of the season in AAA (he could start in AA). Made- 2027 (July/August emergency) It would surprise me that if Joey struggles and Made is hitting the ball well in AA that the club could get desperate and have him skip AAA. However that is really drastic, like Pratt it would be best for him to spend a good portion of the year in AA and get some AAA experience later in the year so he could be the guy in 27'. Lara-June I think with Lara's defense, speed, and approach at the plate he might be a step ahead of other guys getting to the bigs. There is Perkins, Mitchell, Lockridge, and Baddoo in front of him but I would guess a solid start to the AAA season he could easily jump those guys whenever Mitchell gets hurt. Wilken- May/June Similar to Lara if Hamilton, Williams or whomever else struggle Wilken could get a chance early especially with a strong first 100 AAA abs, his defense would also have to be solid for an earlier call up. Adams/Burke/Fischer=2027 I will link these together, with Vaughn and Bauers the 1B are blocked even if they hit extremely well and I think Fischer is just to far away to get to the bigs this year. Pena-Mid-2027 Like Fischer to far to help this year, with the depth we can go slower and shot for 2028 with a chance mid next year if things go better than expected. Quero/Dinges Quero could be ready whenever but with Sanchez and McGuire my guess is he will spend most of the year in AAA. Dinges id probably like Fischer and Pena, best eta should be mid 2027. Are there any other prospects that could help this year?
  16. My guess would be that we go Woody, Preister, Misi, Patrick, and then have a battle of Harrison/Sproat/Henderson for the last 2 spots with Drohan/Gasser/Hall/Ashby/Zerpa all having an outside shot at one of those 2 spots but likely being relievers. Ultimately I think Drohan starts in AAA and gets like 30-50 innings in the bigs as a multi-inning guy. There is a chance that if there are some injuries Drohan could be our Tobias/Patrick out of nowhere style rookie.
  17. I have been a huge fan of the idea. We so many multi inning option guys that all need innings to be watched having 2 guys go 60-70 pitches each should get at least an average of 7 innings a game. Yes, there will be some day that 2 guys cover 5+ or 6 but for those days there should be some complete games where a guy like Preister goes 6 in 70 pitches. I think the matchup possibilities are great as well. Say we play the Phillies and want a lefty for Schwarber and Harper early. We cold have a lefty go 4 innings and cover those 2 guys twice. Than either shift to the other starter or use a reliever for an inning depending on the matchups. We wouldn't need to use relief at the end of the game. With our depth it would be very easy to give a guy an extra day off or callup up a quality AAA starter for a game to keep arm fresh if there are a few shorter combined starts in a week. If there are some injuries it would be easy to transition to a 5 or 6 man because at like 60-70 pitches a guy can be fully stretched out in a start or two. I don't think you even need to do L/R pairings if you can put hard throwers like Misi or Sproat with a softer thrower like Henderson, CarRod, Crow who would be different enough. I will say that this wouldn't work for an entire year but for the 1st couple months could be a great way to get everyone off to a good start. I worry more about wasting guys in AAA who are ready for the mlb challenge more than injuries destroying the pitching staff like early next year. Misi/Woody, Priester/Hall, Gasser, or Drohan, Henderson/Harrison, Patrick/Ashby with Sproat to take a spot after a month. Hall, Gasser, Anderson, Drohan, Megee, Crow as multi-inning 5th relievers going back and forth between AAA and the bigs. Zerpa, Koenig, Abner, Megill as short relief 7/8/9 innings with Yoho or Ashby as depth. There are like 10-12 guys who would start on a majority of big league club and then 3-5 other guys who would still serve as potential quality starting depth. That is also not counting our quality starters who were in AA last year and should be logging innings in AAA. You could probably almost piggyback a few guys (not all 5 or 6 days. in AAA to get everyone innings there as well. On paper at least it seems like it would work.
  18. Any thoughts of Jake Bauers in LF at least part time? If we do go forward with Jett at 3B (or SS), if Bauers hits like he did the last month and playoffs after a slight swing change it could be huge for the lineup. Misi, Priester, Patrick, Sproat, Henderson, and Harrison reminds me of the Mariners rotation a couple years back. At least for the next 4 years or so we really shouldn't need to do anything to our rotation considering our depth now and young guys. I wonder if any of those starters would agree to an Ashby style extension before next year or so. Having Woody as a mentor helps. I am going to throw this out there again but I think there is a great opportunity to be revolutionary and do an 8 man double piggy back rotation. All of our starters could use some coddling with overall work load. Something like 1)Woody/Ashby 2)Priester/Hall 3)Harrison/Patrick 4)Misi/Henderson with Sproat getting a month or so in AAA would be epic every guy would get 40 appearences with 150+ innings. There would be depth with Gasser, Sproat, Zerpa, Crow, CarRod, and more. No pitcher would likely go through the lineup more than twice which our organization loves. it would likely save a bullpen having to only cover maybe 2 innings a game and having a couple taxi guys would really make it easy to baby some arms.
  19. I agree that should be looked into. I know the mindset is to not move Ortiz off SS and Turang off 2B because of the elite defense. I think one thing to keep in mind is that Jett only had 151 plate appearences in AAA and they we pretty shaky. Here are some potential cheaper trade names for 3B/IF I came up with. Coby Mayo (defense??), Baty/Vientos/Mauricio, Alec Bohm??, Alex Freeland, Will Wagner, Jace Jung, Matt Shaw (I know not happening), Shay Whitcomb, Brice Matthews, Cam Smith (maybe to good in RF to move to 3B). I think one of the mets guys make the most sense, I like Mauricio myself but Baty would be a great fit if the price wasn't to high.
  20. This is crazy to me. I really liked Durbin, he was really that Milwaukee/Murphy guy. He will be great and loved in Boston like Pedroia and his fly ball tendencies will likely be great with the monster in left. At first I wanted to trash this, however Harrison as a lefty complement to our other young starters is tantalizing. Hamilton is similar to Mone and Seigler in value, probably a better defender and top notch speed but less contact (batting average). I think Drohan is a potential wild card steal here, 5 pitch mix up to 95. He had 2.27 era with 77/21 k/bb in 15 appearances over 54 innings. He is 27, but I think there are lots of options for a quality arm that should be at least as good as DL Hall. He is probably the comp b pick value. Harrison however is really where we should focus. I think a big area our team can improve with him is on pitch usage, he used the 4 seam (59%) and slurve (27%) a combined 86% of the time despite having a 5 pitch mix. My guess is that we can us some early Freddy style taming here and develop the cutter and changeup (what seems to be our organizational specialties) and get him to that 2/3 style starter. We are overly loaded with top end potential young arms now, it is extremely intreuging. Paredes isn't my favorite 3B option. I will have to scour the league to see what else could be out there at 3B as an option, but my guess is that we have someone in mind to move Durbs. Could Matt Shaw be an option if the cubs don't move Hoerner?
  21. The 1st they gave up are late or heavily protected. They have a young core that is getting better, if AD can even play 50 games next year they will likely be a playoff team. For a team that hasn't been relevant for like 10 years that is bigto the fans. I think the question is what are the 76ers doing? Are they building up picks for a big deal?
  22. Would we be able to get a 2nd round pick for AJ Green? If we get rid of Giannis, Green doesn't have any value to me as a guy who stands around the 3 point line and plays mediocre defense at best. On certain teams as a 3 point specialist he could have some appeal. Green to the Lakers for Maxi Kleber and a 2nd. We shed future salary and get a 2nd, the Lakers get a sniper for Luka and LeBron.
  23. I like his game, I don't think he would be much more than an effort 8th/9th man ever. However he shoul be playing a lot more than Jerricho Sims, who has no basketball skills other than being tall and jumping.
  24. Tyler Black, Brandon Lockridge (Perk or Mitchell could be included), Steward Berroa, Carlos Rodriguez, Easton Megee, Sammy Peralta, (probably others) All of these guys seemingly don't have much of a path towards playing time, obviously most of them will just go to AAA and provide depth in case of injuries. I would think none of them have much in the way of trade value and maybe a couple Berroa/Peralta could be dfa's for other roster additions. I guess I would focus on Black and CarRod as the biggest what do we do with them issues. I think Black will get squeezed out of AAA playing time with Adams, Wilken, Boeve likely at 1B/3B and an OF of Lockridge, Baddoo, Jones, Lara. For CarRod there are AAA innings and a rotation spot but if guys like Crow, Hardin, Wichrowski, Kuehner start well he falls down the line a lot and is likely the 8th or 9th starter as it stands. I don't like the idea of trading either for a young lotto ticket prospect but at this point (assuming no major mlb injuries) that might be the best route come the end of camp. Thoughts
