  1. Dubon was also trash the past 2 years and would likely have been dfa'd by this year. Dubon has been good this year though and was a steep price to pay for Pom.. I can't say this is high on the trade regrets though.
  2. Lauer's advanced stats were always worse than he base stats. I am sure a bunch of teams would have given much. However free agents like Tiajuan Walker and Jameson Taillion were pretty close to Lauer stat wise the past 2 years and got huge contracts so my guess is that there were a couple of solid deals out there if we wanted (maybe no top 100 prospects but 2 or 3 really solid pieces).
  3. If it was Burnes for Holiday straight up I probably would do that. It would move this org back a couple years but Holiday has been through the roof spectacular this year. I doubt the O's trade him but they have so much IF depth it could happen. I agree DL Hall hasn't been great but he has like 16 innings in the bigs. He is a lefty that throws in the upper 90s with 3 solid pitches. As a 3rd piece in a Burnes deal he would be great just on potential.
  4. Agreed, maybe we could trade away Willy or Urias and add somewhere else but even if this team plays average we should have an easy path to the playoffs.
  5. I don't think Burnes has hurt his trade value, he isn't striking out as many and his era is a half run higher. However he still should have more trade value than Luis Castillo did last year. There is no doubt Willy should have been traded but that's easy to say with hindsight. Turang has shown the signs of being a future everyday SS but has a long way to go. Woody really only needs a couple healthy starts and most of his trade value will be back before the deadline. I think not trading high on Eric Lauer is really the mistake of the offseason. Any fan who watched him knew he isn't a 3.5 era pitcher like he had been foe 2 years. My guess is that we received some nice offers for him and now he is on pace not to be tendered a contract next year.
  6. The Os have tons of bats that would make sense for us and some interesting 2nd tier pitching. They do have a bunch of money to spend so I doubt that is a huge deterrence. For Burnes I'd probably want Grayson Rodriguez still. Say Rodriguez, Westburg, and DL Hall or Coby Mayo Peralta for Westburg, Coby Mayo or DL Hall, and Cade Povich.
  7. With every passing loss trading Burnes seems more likely. Thankfully the central stinks but our offense is so bad that Burnes doesn't help much if we win 85 games and back into the playoffs. Woody could go to if he get 3 or 4 nice starts and Wily as well. At this point if we could get good upper minors or recent mlb players. Burnes to Texas makes the most sense to me. Woodruff or Burnes to Tampa, yanks, Rays, Jays, or O's could all work but Arizona would be an interesting dark horse candidate. The Dbacks have some intersecting talent and pitching needs.
  8. I'd pick the two guys (18 and 33)with the most potential to be middle of the order bats. We need some run producers who hit better than .230. There are a ton of 3B college bats who would fit out org. perfectly. I would go Schaunel or Taylor 18 and Jake Gelof 33. However I would be ok taking say Gelof 18, a different lower ranked college bat (45-60 range) save $ and take a high end arm that drops in the 2nd or even 3rd.
  9. With Winker hitting ok in AAA, I think it's time to end the Singleton experiment. Winker gets a couple weeks and if nothing improves Huira will hopefully be up to speed come end of June/early July. Also I would think Miley will take Rea's rotation spot maybe starting in a few days and just bumping a couple guys back a day. Matt Bush in maybe a week for Tyson Miller.
  10. Does anyone have a scouting report on Edwin Jimenez? The guy has been great but I am having a hard time figuring anything about him other than stats.
  11. Tapia is nice 4th OF, he will likely hit over .250 with average defense, no power, and a bit of speed. Hopefully Frelick is up to speed quickly and can make it to the big league club in a few weeks. Tapia doesn't complement Frelick well but maybe makes it easier to DH Yeli more down the road.
  12. I am officially on the fire the hitting coaches bandwagon. What a putrid showing, it's not like there was even quality pitching from the A's today. On top of that Counsil challenges an obvious catchers interference and than doesn't bunt Montasario in the 10th.
  13. Lower markets can compete but the problem is only for so long, every 3-5 years a higher performing lower market team has to develop a new team. You can stay competitive but just not with the same base, lower market teams have to hit on trades to send quality players to those big market teams to stay competitors (IE the Rays). The alternative is to go for it for a couple years maxing out a young cores timeframe add in some vets and then lose the young guys to free agency for nothing and face a long rebuild (IE Royals, Cubs (not that the cubs are a small market).
  14. 5 of the first 6 batters reached base then like 4 baserunners the last 25 outs. This offense really doesn't make any adjustments. The bullpen meltdown stinks, especially since Rea was cruising and only threw 84 pitches.
  15. We need a middle of the order bat bad. If it is a DH, OF, or 1B (move Rowdy to DH). At this point we have enough pitching when guys come back but a solid lefty option would be great. I am not for trading any of our top 12 or so prospects for a rental type and can't see a great fit for any other big bat. My ideas 1) CJ Cron and Brad Hand for Carlos Rodriguez (OF) and Ethan Small 2) Mark Canha for Tyrone Taylor or a prospect like Logan Henderson Neither Cron or Canha are auto mid order guys but both would have high upside and have huge effects vs. LHP. Hand gives us a better lefty option with late inning and playoff experience.
  16. His offspeed offerings have looked amazing. Add in consistent upper 90's and he might have the highest ceiling of any pitching prospect we've had.
  17. I think hitter will adjust to him here now that there is a pattern. Hopefully he is experienced enough to adjust to the adjustments. I would send Rea down before him when Miley is back.
  18. I would definitely send Turang and Toro/Brousseau down before Monte. Turang needs to re calibrate and Monte has been huge. I read somewhere that Frelick should be back the 3rd week of June and Keston shortly after that. Those could be big boosts come July.
  19. Agree, why add on unneeded future risk. If he was pitching better I would say sure but he is far from a sure thing long term.
  20. I think of Frelick more as a ceiling like Johnny Damon and a floor of Podsednik. I wouldnt rush to trade him but if there was a big bat that took him I would be ok with it.
  21. I like the idea of saving money on the 1st pick or 2 with college players and then getting the highest quality arm or 2 possible after. With only reading 50 or so draft scouting reports here is what I would hope for. 1) Jake Gelof 3B, He has big power and walks as much as he k's. I don't think there is a ton of difference between him and the higher ranked 3B college bats. MLB.com ranks him 42 so we could save a bunch on this pick. 1 COMP) Cole Carrigg C/SS/OF A high end athlete who can play SS, CF, and C, not to mention switch hit. This seems like a perfect guy to have with Contreras down the road. He has 60 speed, and at 6'3" there could be a little more power to come. Ranked at 45 he might take a little bit less than slot. 2) Alex Clemmey LHP A 6'6" 205 lbs. lefty who throws 98-99 with high spin, sign me up. This really could be 1 of 10 or so pitchers who could drop. He is ranked 50th but might take a bit more to sign, A younger left handed version of Misi 3) Mac Horvath 3B/OF 22 hr and 24 sb at UNC. Probably will strike out to much but the tools are great for the 3rd round. 4)Cole Miller RHP Back to taking the most interesting arm available at this point, maybe some higher ranked players fall and we still have some cash to sign them. 5-10 College players (JuCo) I haven't read enough on anyone outside of the top 100 or so on mlb.com scouting reports to have any favorites.
  22. Don't rush him, if he was hitting .300 and taking walks I would be onboard, however AA seems like the right spot for him. If he gets hot for a week or two later in the year a AAA promotion wouldn't be crazy by any means. I would guess he is maybe a candidate for a call-up around this time next year if things go well.
  23. I think he can be one of those risers in the rankings but I can't say I know what or how hard he throws. If he can get to the 95 mph range he has some potential, but his college stats are meh and aside from his ERA his other stats aren't great either for a 23 and a half year old in high A. At 6'4" 230 he is probably already filled out, my guess is that he is a nice organizational guy maybe along the lines of Alec Bettinger.
  24. Urias for Turang, depending on how long Willy is out and when Urias is ready. Perkins for Weimer, at least long enough to get the extra year of control. Abraham Toro for Tyrone in a week or so if Taylor doesn't start hitting. Singleton for Wonker. Keston when ready. Do it all on the same day to make a point.
  25. No to Hicks, he has been awful for 3 years and that is in Yankee Stadium. Blake Perkins has played well enough in AAA to come back up. He wouldn't be much better but can take some walks. We did sign Roman Quinn who can probably be like Jonathan Davis last year. Give Weimer and Turang a couple weeks.
