I like Larnach, however looking the Twins, they are loaded in the IF Correa, Lewis, Kiriloff, Julien, Polanco, Miranda, Brooks Lee (AAA) and have questions in the OF Buxton (doesn't play much OF anymore), Wallner, Larnach, Castro (UTL), Gordon. I think that one of our OF for a IF would be win win. Tyrone Taylor for Polanco Weimer/Mitchell for Miranda and a prospect Frelick for Julien (don't like a ton) Quero for Brooks Lee

I struggle with what Council would want to do. On one hand a $300 million payroll and being the highest paid coach in the league is tough to turn down, however his kids are in HS (or just graduated) and Milwaukee is home. I really like the idea of Vogt if CC leaves. however the jump from bullpen coach to head coach might be a bit steep.
-
I like the idea of Wallner, if he could play some 1st he would be great. My guess is that the Twins would hold on to him, but I could see a trade based with a reilever like Joel Payamps working out. The problem is that he would like just be a DH for us with the OF depth we have.
-
I don't mind Hoskins but his injury makes a deal a bit tough, if it was 1/15 with some team options I could be on board but my guess is he will get like 3/45-50 guarenteed with player opt outs. JD Martinez would be ideal but my guess is the Dodgers will pay up to keep him 1 more year. My favorite under the radar option would be Mitch Garver, he could backup Contreras at C, play 1st occasionally, be a great DH. He had 19 HR's in under 300 ab's so the power is real, injuries are always a concern for him. My guess is he wouldn't cost over $10. Eloy Jimenez would be an obvious trade candidate and it seems like Alonso is off the market but maybe the Mets going from Eppler to Stearns changes that. There are probably a couple older players like Jose Abreu, Conforto, Haniger, etc that could be had but I can't see that working. If I were in charge I would just look for a power infield bat coming back in a trade for Burnes or a reliever and then next year having Wilken, Chourio, and maybe Weimer/Mitchell if they can make contact on top of a IF with power in a Burnes deal.

I don't think I will ever get past Jesse Winker pinch hitting in both games. When Woody went down I had made peace that a run was going to be unlikely. Winker hitting twice in high leverage situations feels like someone gave up on this team and it is going to take some doing to get me to trust Counsil again.

A couple people have brought up that they don't think that a Burnes trade return won't be as high as we are expecting, it could be but we should make out well. A half year of Giolito (and Lopez) got a 50-75 ranked prospect and a 5-10 ranked org. prospect, Burnes is head and shoulder above Giolito and would have a full year. There are going to be a ton of quality arms on the market but just about every decent team could use an arm or three. Worst case I would wait until the deadline when the supply and demand is better. One thing I know is that our management does a good job of squeezing out value in trade returns.
-
I think a lot of this is going to depend on Woody's shoulder, if it is the worst possible news and he is out for the year I probably would approach the offseason differently. I would be more inclined to keep Burnes and be more creative in adding a bat. Trade = 1)Burnes for a mlb ready starter or IF and a couple prospects 2) 1 reliever depending on return I would sell high on Payamps, Wilson, or Williams (maybe even 2 if we got some interesting arms back), I would try and get the overall best prospect here regardless of age 3) get 1 mlb high end bat, I doubt we can sign anyone that would be a good middle of the order bat but we need a guaranteed consistent run producer in the lineup, to a degree Quero is blocked and we will have 5-6 quality OF, so trading from that depth is logical to me. Sign= 1) Miley or cheaper quality vet arm 2)1 of Canha/Santana, I am a little torn over Canha's option 1/9.5 or Santana 1/5, Santana is a better 1B, has more power, and would be cheaper, or Canha has a little more versitility and is a more consitent hitter. 3)Backup catcher, Caratini would be ideal but my guys is he gets like 2/10 somewhere and that is to expensive for our backup, I don't mind bringing in a couple vets on minor league deals and having them compete with Henry, Naveretto, and maybe Quero. 4)Under the radar minor league deal big arms, management has been killing it finding guys like Wilson, Megill, Milner even some guys that were in our org that just were depth pieces are killing it like Topa and others. Non-tender=Lauer, Rowdy I wouldn't mind either on a non-guaranteed minor league deal that has incentives but Rowdy needs to get in shape and Lauer needs a lot of help. Free Agents= Don't take the throw 5 darts at the board approach, the past couple years we have signed like 4-5 guys to 1/2-5 million dollar deals and they haven't worked out. I would much rather get 1 guy for 10-20 million even if there is still some risk.
-
Jackson Chourio I am leaning more and more each day towards wanting him to be on the opening day roster next year.Jacob Misiorowski Close between him and Quero, I chose him because his floor should be super high as a big time reliever at the worst.Jeferson Quero Quero being blocked by Contreras is going to be an interesting discussion going foward.Tyler Black Another guy who could/should start in the bigs. I kind of like him as a super utility playing 1B/2B/3B/OF/DH basically everyday somewhere else.Brock Wilken I am buying in on the bat, maybe a late in next year call up. Should be a top 100 prospect in my booksCarlos F Rodriguez Splitting hairs on Gasser/Rodriguez, I'll give CRod the nod just based on being a bit younger. Another nationally under ranked guy who should probably be a top 100 prospect.Robert Gasser #3 of should probably be on the opening day roster as the #5/6 starter. 338 k's in the past 2 years is impressive. Borderline top 100 prospect.Luis Lara If he can add some power he can easily jump into the top 100 (50) in the mlb next year. Cooper Pratt Beyond excited to see him get a fully year in next year, I could see him as high as #6 on this list depending on how much you buy into rookie ball and pre-draft rankingsJosh Knoth I was hoping that the club would at least give him a few innings in professional ball but I can wait until next year.Eric Brown Jr I think if we could just erase the 1st half of the season he might be a top 100 prospect, him being 11 shows how amazing our farm system is even with Frelick and Uribe graduating in the past week(s).Luke Adams Reminds me of a 3rd base Joey Weimer, hopfully he can refine a few things in his swing but another guy who could explode next year.Eric Bitonti I worry about him being Jake Gatewood (if you remember him) but the upside is huge here as well.Mike Boeve Get him in the weight room, other wise the bat should make him a solid utility player at least.Yophery Rodriguez Here hoping to starting in A ball and following a Chourio/Lara path next yearLogan Henderson I would have liked for him to get a couple starts in Appleton this year but he had a wonderful year, with the plus changeup he should find continual success.Dylan O'Rae Amazing year, if he can develop even doubles power he could be an amazing prospect come this time next year.Daniel Guilarte I'm probably sleeping on him a bit, another great year from an 18/19 year old prospect.Bradley Blalock I am not sure what to make of him, I will give him this spot based on his numbers in the Sox's system early in the year.Wes Clarke Likely won't be ranked high anywhere on the web. However he has kind of turned into a favorite of mine. A powerful 1B who can catch. I like the idea of Quero/Contreras spliting C and DH and then having Clarke as a bench player who can essentially be a quality 3rd catcher and maximize the 2 catchers PT. I love how most of our top prospect don't strikeout much, this organization has done a spectacular job. There are 4-6 other player who could easily be top 20 prospects on that list and another half a dozen who have really big upside after that.

Brewers Send Eight Minor Leaguers to Arizona Fall League
jay87shot replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
Solid roster, I can't think of anyone obvious that I would put in before these guys. I like all 3 relievers getting more time. Brown and Mendez seemed pretty obvious AFL players to me. Clarke is interesting, I've written before that when Quero gets to the bigs Clarke seems like a perfect player to allow Contreras to DH more and have a player like Clarke who can be a 3rd catcher and be useful as a 1B/DH and PH, maybe he could even learn a bit of LF eventually not sure about other positions, other that 1st/C. Maybe he is there to add another position like 3B/2B/OF.- 5 replies

How Much For a WAR? 2023 Highest Paid Players Edition
jay87shot replied to sveumrules's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Great info, what is the general going value of a WAR, I know a few years ago it was 7-8 mill per WAR? I think usually a team needs about 40-50 to make the playoffs and the top contenders are are 70-80 WAR. -
It is really to bad the Cards are our rivals. With 3 big 3rd base bats and Goldy expiring they would be a perfect trade candidate. Jordan Walker can hit the daylights out of the ball but was one of the worst OF in the league and Gorman was OK at 2B but is miscast there. Would Gasser for Goldy be to much for 1 year. If we trade Burnes, his $ could bring in Goldy and we would then get a bigger return for Burnes. Possibly get a comp pick for Goldy at the end of the year as well (or extend him short term).
-
Agreed 100%. We are going to need to do some fenagling but not wholesale changes. The offense needs to imporve and we need to always be money and future conscience. Trading Burnes hopefully would improve the offense and then having Woody a full year and some incremental improvements from Peralta, and the 4/5/6 spots can cover Burnes. I also like the idea of trading high on a reliever as a way of improving an area.
-
I am not proposing all those ideas, they are just random thoughts that maybe 1 of them could work. I was attempt just to throw ideas of the wall not say we should do all those ideas. I did put in somewhere I wouldn't expect the Marlins to trade Alcantara or the Royals to trade Witt.
-
My bad, the team that signs the player loses like the 2-5 round pick. Well that does make a pretty big difference.
-
Here are a couple random trade ideas 1) We get Dylan Cease, Mets get Burnes, CWS get Luisangel Acuna and Blade Tidwell from mets and Logan Henderson from us. We turn 1 year of Burnes into 2 of a slightly less valuable pitcher but still a top of he rotation piece. The Mets get a young ace they will sign long term so the year of control to just get Cease doesn't matter and the Sox get a top 50 prospect and 2 young upside arms. 2) Devin Williams to Atl for Vaughn Grissom and a higher ranked P prospect Shawver/Waldrep/Schellenbach If Grissom can play 2B better than he has (been a butcher defensively in the bigs) he would be a great get who is blocked. Depending on how everything gets valued out we would also add one of the Braves high end pitching prospects. Uribe seems ready to take Williams place and we could turn 2 years (120 innings) into an everyday .300 hitting 2B and a top of the rotation quality arm. 3)Yelich to NYY for DJ Lemahieu and Chase Hampton/Clarke Schmidt/Drew Thorpe (I think I proposed this at some point) Lemahieu has 3/45 left on his deal and his versatilty 1B/2B/3B/DH is at positions of weakness. The Yanks would be getting a solid offensive boost and adding athleticism to an aging team and 26 mill a year in the Bronx doesn't look as bad as Milwaukee. We would get out of the Yeli earlier than later and get a solid pitcher in addition to Lemahieu. 4)Willy Adames (and maybe a minor prospect) for Eloy Jimenez If the Sox turn down Andersons option Adames would make a great option and we could get a solid DH to improve the lineup next year. 5) Willy Adames, Aaron Ashby, Eric Brown, and Jeferson Quero for Sandy Alcantara Ok, so this might be out there but the Marlins fix 2 of there major holes SS, C (eventually) for turning Alcantara into Ashby. Yes, Alcantara has 4 extremely affordable years but this could make sense with some editing. Then trading Burnes wouldn't hurt as much. 6) We get Bobby Witt the Dodgers get Burnes and Adames the Royals get Quero, Weimer, Pepiot, Hurt, and Busch. (I have proposed something similar before as well. The Royals have nothing above A+ ball and no help for Witt, the are like 3 years away from starting something. This trade turns a year of Adames and Burnes with 2 valuable (but expendable pieces into a 23 year old superstar that would be a massive piece to a young sustainable lineup. The Dodgers get an ace and short term SS help for 3 solid players that might be a little redundant in LA, The Royals get a Juan Soto like haul with 5 high potential mlb ready (or near mlb ready) pieces that makes the overall team and organization better despite losing a generational talent.
-
The problem is that we only get like a 3rd or 4th round pick for losing a FA and not all are given. Burnes and Woody would get at least a solid top 100 plus 2 interesting other pieces. I don't think anyone is really against keeping Burnes or Woody however it is probably best long-term for a lower salary team like us to get maximum value. It sounds like the Mets are prioritizing signing Alonso long-term this offseason and they definitely have the money to keep him.

Trade Burnes to Balt for 3B Coby Mayo, OF Billy Cook, and P Trayce Bright Trade Payamps to Texas for 1B Abimelec Ortiz and P Marc Church Trade Weimer to LAD for P Gavin Stone Trade Adames to SF for SS Aeverson Arteaga and P Carson Seymour Trade Houser to Bos for C Reece McGuire and OF Allen Castro Pickup options on Miley and Canha (if we can't sign cheaper) 1)RF Frelick 2)1B Canha 3) DH Yelich 4)C Contreras 5) CF Mitchell 6)3B Mayo 7)2B Black 8)LF Chorio 9) SS Turang. Bench) C McGuire IF Monteserio OF Taylor Utl Miller/Toro 1) Woodruff 2)Peralta 3)Miley 4)Ashby 5)Stone 6) Gasser Depth)Rea CP Williams SU Uribe, Megill, Peguero, Milner, Wilson, Viera/Church Maybe we would wait a month or so to go to Chourio in left but I love the youth and upside of this lineup. Also we would have Wilken or Ortiz as big power 1B to take over in 2025. The rotation would be solid with the upside in Ashby, Gasser, Stone, Rodriguez, Misi, and some of the AA pitchers in these deals. I don't think any of these deals are that big of stretches. The O's will find out in the playoffs they need an ace. Mayo and 2 rising lower ranked prospects is a solid haul. Payamps is expendable so we get a high upside 1B and great potential pen arm. Weimer for Stone works I think, the Dodgers would put Outman in LF and Weimer in CF and Stone is a high upside arm that is likely blocked (Kershaw, Buehler, May, Miller, Pepiot, Sheehan, Urias or big FA/trade?). Adames makes way for Black essentially and get 2 younger pieces. Houser gets a lefthanded backup catcher and prospect. We also would have money to extend Woody and Canha and Miley come back for 1 more year as key cogs and leaders. Black and Monte platoon 2B and if Black struggles defensively he becomes more of a utility guys 1B/2B/3B/OF/DH.
-
I guess for me keeping Houser depends on Burnes and Woodruff. If we trade 1, keeping Houser is probably best. However if both are kept I don't think their is room for him and trying to bring Miley back,. I am putting Gasser ahead of him on the depth chart and if we bring back Miley he fits way down. Burnes, Woody, Peralta, Ashby, Miley, Gasser, Houser, Rea, Junk and I would think Carlos Rodriguez would be ready for a call up relatively quick with Misio maybe by midseason. Also our bullpen seems full so keeping him as a swingman like early this year would be tougher.
-
I think the question for now is which team would we rather play between the Cubs, Reds, Dbacks, Marlins, and Giants. I would go something like 1) Giants 2)Reds 3)Marlins 4)Cubs 5)Dbacks The dbacks scare me the most with Gallen and Kelly and the young offense. For some reason we always struggle with Hendricks and Steele, however I am not to worried about anyone after that in the first series. If we get the Dodgers maybe we stand a chance with some of their SP issues. I still don't think we have more than a punchers shot at the Braves.
-
I would think Houser might be a good candidate to tender him a deal and then trade him. He does have a little value, look at how many teams don't have reliable 4/5 starters right now, even some of the big budget teams might want him as a 5/6 or long relief guy. Even if we just get a couple low level prospects it would be worth it. I am sure Arnold could maybe get someone like Peguero or Vieira for Houser. Would the Giants be a possibility for a Yeli deal? He might waive a no trade for Cali, we could take back Conforto or Haniger to DH and counter some of Yeli's money and maybe get an interesting prospect. The Giants have lots of money and I doubt any of the big FA's go there.

Could Josh Hader have become a Starter?
jay87shot replied to Brewcrew82's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
I think he wouldn't have been at Strider k levels, throwing 93-95 as a starter instead of 95-97 and he needed his changeup to develop more. As a starter my guess is he might have been like Robbie Ray and if his changeup developed more like Blake Snell, which is still really good k rates. -
Any chance we could extend Canha to a 2 or 3 year deal at less than his 12 mill option. I feel like 2/18 or 3/24 wouldnt be to crazy, especially with a few incentives and him being 35.
-
Again I don't like the mlb trade simulator but Bryant had like a -120 value and Yeli was like -40. I just added the 50 million so there weren't like 4 prospect to make the deal close on the website.
