    I am fine with a trade but it would really need to be for a similarly valued young pitchers or IF. At this point I doubt anything happens unless there are a bunch of injuries and a spring training deal is necessary. If everyone plays well in spring I would just rotate through all 4. In reality, I would love to trade Yelich and get something interesting back and save some $ to put into another bat.

    I think the original quote was they were looking for a high leverage pitcher and people are speculating on Williams. My guess is Joel Payamps would be more of the guy the Royals are looking at (they just had him at the start of 2023). Maybe Milner, Peguaro, or Wilson could fit that description Problem is it would probably take one of the best Royals prospects (Kurdma/Mozzicaito) and more to just get Payamps (or others).

    I like always like the idea of piggybacking guys coming off injury. To me Ross and Ahsby would be a perfect piggyback situation to start the year. Both get like 60-70 pitch counts and hopefully save the rest of the bullpen. After a bit you can then move to a 6 man rotation or put 1 in the pen (5 man). I like keeping Gasser down to get an extra year, I am sure an injury or ineffectiveness somewhere will clear a spot for him in the 1st half. CRod maybe gets a chance around the allstar break even if it is just for 3/4 starts somewhere when the team goes through like a 18 games in 18 day streak (not sure when or if we do but usually it happens).

    It is always about what value is offered, at this point I would be surprised if Burnes is traded because signing Hoskins and then trading Burnes would be a contradiction. I do think that we could make up for a Willy trade but again I doubt the offers have been big enough to warrant taking that risk.

    We have plenty of depth I had no problem trading Houser or Taylor, I just though the package was extremely light since Crow is likely going to be out all year. I am still interested in what we do with our excess OF, RP, and AAA IF depth. Obviously the AAA IF depth doesn't matter much but I am intrigued none the less.

    Where are we on the Rays excess IF depth they have Diaz, Lowe, Paredes, Cabarello, Walls, Mead, Caminero, Aranda, Basabe. I feel like most thought Paredes price would be to high, Diaz would as well. Lowe and Aranda could be solid bats to add that wouldn't cost huge prospect returns. I know it is a pipedream but would Quero, Weimer/Mitchell, Gasser, Henderson be an appropriate value for Caminero. I get it not happening just wondering.

    Agree but Baez might be a 45, the other 2 probably 40's. You are right though we should get 1 good piece for Mitchell or a different OF piece. Would Perkins be an option here? I would prefer to keep Perkins in AAA if possible in case there were injuries like last year, however with Yelich, Chourio, Frelick, Mitchell, Weimer and then guys like Bauers, Miller, Black who could be on the roster on play some OF if needed. Do Perkins really get a shot this year even if we trade 1 of Weimer or Mitchell. If we could get something interesting I could see Perkins being a trade option, he showed gold glove caliber defense and the ability to put together good at bats. His 1.2 WAR in 143 ab's would make him a valuable everyday player. Could even get a bit of a bidding war going on a high end 4th OF that might not need to play this year for us.

    I doubt he makes the team with Turang, Monasterio, Miller, Capra, Jones, and Dunn (not to mention Dorrian, Campbell, Collins, and Murray) already at second but this seems like a no risk deal. What do we do with all this depth? Is a Willy trade still possible this deal makes me wonder why and what is next.

    From what I remember the Astros farm system is extremely weak on top, I am sure we could get a couple pieces for him however. It looks like the have a bunch of solid power speed combo guys whose hit tool is in question and solid pitching that just don't have big arms. My ask for Mitchell would probably be Luis Baez (young upside OF), P Rhett Kouba (low ceiling high floor starting/multi inning relief prospect), P Alimber Santa (young good arm, still a long way away). There isn't one piece that screams out to me but these 3 would offer upside in Baez and Santa and some reliablity in Kouba. If he was out most of the year Luis Garcia would be a pretty good start for Mitchell.

    Interesting, I still think it should be Yelich should play there alot. In my opinion we just split DH between a bunch of players, Yeli 60, Hoskins 40, Contreras 20, Black 20, 22 extra OF/hot bench player. If we add someone Justin Turner would be perfect 3B/2B/1B/DH obviously money would be an issue but maybe we could shed some money by dumping Bauers, Rae (not sure if he can be traded), bullpen extras. On the cheaper end Gio Ursheala might make similar sense, trading an OF like Weimer or Mitchell for a IF would make sense to maybe Jorge Polanco and a prospect or a blocked young player who is ready.

    I feel like having it on Prime will make it more accessible for the younger fan, in my experience more young people are skipping cable and just picking up streaming sites. For me personally, I don't have cable spend about $40 a month and have a monsterbox that is free and gives me all (literally all of them including free pay per view) the cable channels for free.

    It's a small sample size but Hoskins has absolutely been a beast in Miller/AAF. .342/.405/.790 5 HR in 9 games What a crazy Wisconsin sports day. Brewers sign Hoskins, Bucks fire Griffin, Packers just fired Joe Berry (and Jaire Alexander posted a thank you to Green Bay assuming he is going to be traded).

    Such a big get, I thought he was going to the Cubs for sure. Any chance we could add a high end starter on the cheap. Trevor Bauer is on my mind but could Shane Bieber (say Weimer and a couple lower prospects) be cheap enough. Maybe just get Woody back. I wouldn't mind taking a run at Jorge Polanco as well. We could offset salary by trading some relievers, Bauers, others. This signing changes my entire outlook on the next couple weeks. Nice

    Keeping Willy makes sense, we won't get much more value than a comp. pick at this point. Odds are that he should hit better than last year and then be worth the 50 million and get that pick. Still hoping there is a team that will give us an acceptable trade for Burnes after Snell and Montgomery sign. Montgomery to SF, Snell to NYY. Then Rangers get Burnes and Payamps for Brock Porter, Owen White, Abrimalec Ortiz, and Marc Church Trade Weimer/Mitchell, Bryse Wilson, and Freddy Zamora for Josh Naylor Elvis Peguaro for Jonathan Aranda Edit: Nevermind getting Hoskins changes my mind on trading Burnes, full steam ahead.

    Was just looking at the Chapman move. I know they only spend 70-80 million a year. They have added Martin Perez, Marco Gonzalez, Chapman, and Rowdy. Nothing special but for the Pirates that is a lot.

    It's bad when your jealous of the Pirates spending prowess. There bullpen is really good now and there rotation is passable (no top of rotation guys). There lineup could be solid if Reynolds, Cruz. Henry Davis (among others) meet expectations.

    If his future is in a bullpen it probably isn't here, he will never get a shotbwith our depth. It would stink to lose him but he is an easy to replace AAA depth pitcher. Good luck, hope he has a couple good years and gets a legit big league shot. On an unrelated note, what ever happened to Taylor Jungman? His baseball reference page doesn't have any foreign stats after he left us.

    I think maybe you try and make something work in 2025 but in reality that won't work. I am sure Contreras could be a passible 1B but he is 26 and was on of the best catchers in the league last year. You don't move a high caliber young catcher to a new position unless there is no way to sign him. Maybe in 2025 you have each guy play 80 games at catcher, Contreras gets say 60 DH games (a few at 1st) and Quero DH's here and there for extra PT. Clarke platoons at 1st and only catches if one of the two is DH'ing and the other catching gets injuried. I think the logical thing to do is to swap Quero for similarly blocked young bat at some point next offseason and sign cheaper vets to back up Contreras. I wouldn't be a bad idea to draft a good young catcher early this year in case we trade Quero and then can't sign Contreras by 2027/2028. The only way Quero is the long term catcher is if Contreras get hurt, really stinks this year (not happening), or is an MVP candidate and works his way into a 30+ million dollar contract we can't afford. If Contreras goes .300/.400/.900 with like 30 HR's and high quality catching we probably do want to keep Quero and trade Contreras after 2025.

    I would love to get full value for Burnes now, I feel like we should get a top 50 prospect, borderline top 100, and a solid 3rd piece. At the deadline we would be lucky to get a top 50 and 2 throw in pieces, if we add a bat or two and legit make an effort to go for it I am fine keeping him. However I am not sure if the current team warrants the lost value by keeping him to August. Trading Freddie should get a value of what we traded Yeli for. Brinson was a top 30 prospect, Diaz and Harrison were borderline top 100 prospects, and Yamamoto was a solid mid-tier young pitching prospect. Basallo/Mayo, Norby, Ortiz, McCormick would be similar (not sure we would want Norby and Ortiz), just Basallo and Mayo would be fine for me as well. I still think there is a cool 3 team trade to be had with SF and SD, I've posted before. Bogeartz to SF Burnes, Peguaro, Weimer/Mitchell to SD we get Jackson Merrill, Robby Snelling, and Carson Wisenhunt. The Giants get a star, the Pads drop payroll, get an ace, and depth, we get 3 really high end prospect that all could be ready in 2025. (yes the pads would need to find a long term SS, Kim would play there this year).

    For position players/starters I usually want a player to have 10 years of being a top 3-5 player at their position (top 10 for pitchers) to go along with a 15+ year career. K- Rod does probably fit that discription 2004-2011 he was a top closer and then again 2014-2016, he played 16 years. So I vote yes, relievers just make it hard, a career 24 WAR is nothing compared to other positions. Usually a player needs around 60 WAR career to be considered.

    What about a 1/2 of trade for Jorge Polanco sign Brandon Belt. Weimer/Mitchell for Polanco and P Cory Lewis. Belt 1/14 (incentive + team option) 1) DH/LF Yeli 2)2B/3B Polanco 3)1B/DH Belt 4) C Contreras 5) SS Adames 6) OF Frelick 7) OF Chourio 8)3B/1B Black 9)OF Mitchell While it's in my head could a Burnes to the Twins work? I no they are cutting payroll but are in the easiest division and need an ace. We could take on Polanco to offset salary. Burnes, Weimer, Peguero for Brooks Lee, Jorge Polanco, Marco Raya, David Festa, and Kyle Farmer (trade Farmer elsewhere). The Twins get Weimer and Peguero to offset 1 year of Burnes. We add in a bit motre to prospect up for Lee and add 2 of their best young pitchers. Money is close, we could get a decent mid range prospect for Farmer at some point. We could maybe sign a vet starter on a 1 year deal to make up not getting a big league pitcher back.

    I am not huge on Chapman, it would fit the double down move of Yeli/Cain. France would be great but he isn't great defensively (at least last year) at 1st doesn't seem to be Arnold's MO. I'd prefer to give up an OF and get something back rather than Turang + Adams. My ask would be Weimer for France and Prelander Berroa (one of my favorite sleeper prospects).

    Does he start in A ball or get say a month to train 1st and debut in late May-Early-June? He doesn't until the end of the season so we don't have to rush him but it would be nice to get 70-80 innings this year.

    I feel like Rodriguez can be a solid 3. His command needs to get a bit better but I think he can be a Marcus Stroman type starter. Obviously they are perfect matches, but someone in the mold of not overpowering but gets the job done consistently (a gamer).
