  1. I don't mind the low change approach it just seems like we would be stuck in the sand a bit. Without Woody this team likely won't be much better. Obviously if the young bats improve that could be wrong. I kind of want our team to look almost like the Reds last year. Steer into the young bats and get what upside pitching we can. With the Reds and Pirates likely improving with young talented rosters and it seems like the Cards and Cubs will spend some money it is going to be a very tough division next year.
  2. Trade Burnes and Weimer to LAD for Miguel Vargas, Ryan Pepiot, Alex Vesia, Hunter Feduccia Adames to Marlins for Trevor Rogers and prospect Payamps for Connor Norby Houser for a prospect (whatever we can get) Sign Luis Severino 1/10 with incentives for innings option for 2025 I'd also sign Contreras 6/68 million with a couple of options (1/4/8/15/20/20) Woody 2/22 with incentives (4/18) Chourio mid-season ??? 8/111 (same deal as Corbin Carroll) These deals would allow us to also have money and one of the best farm systems to go get a big name at the deadline if need be. C: William Contreras ($1M) 1B: Carlos Santana ($5.00M) 2B: Connor Norby ($.77M) 3B: Miguel Vargas ($0.77M) SS: Brice Turang ($.77M) LF: Christian Yelich ($26.00M) CF: Sal Frelick ($0.77M) RF: Tyrone Taylor ($1.70M) DH: Tyler Black ($0.77M) Bench OF: Garrett Mitchell ($0.77M) Utility: Owen Miller ($0.77M) Utility: Andruw Montaserio ($.77M) Backup C: Henry/Feduccia ($.77M) SP1: Freddy Peralta ($5.5M) SP2: Ryan Pepiot ($.77M) SP3: Trevor Rogers ($2M) SP4: Luis Severino ($10M) SP5: Colin Rea ($3.50M) CL: Devin Williams ($6.50M) RP: Abner Uribe ($0.77M) RP: Hoby Milner ($1.70M) RP: Bryse Wilson ($1.30M) RP: Alex Vesia ($1.5M) RP: Trevor Megill ($0.77M) RP: Elvis Peguero ($0.77M) RP: Robert Gasser/Aaron Ashby ($0.77M) Payroll is 45.37% under budget
  3. If we trade Burnes some of those guys would be nice. I am on the who has the most upside end. Giolito would be interesting on a 1/2 year deal with options both ways. I still like the risk of Luis Severino. To me we can find or have plenty of 4-5 starters relatively cheap. We should take risks on guys who can be solid 2-3 pitchers if our staff can sort out an issue.
  4. If we are going to spend some money and get a current manager I would go Kevin Cash or Mark Kotsay. I also always thought Joe Giradi got a bad rap but don't see him as a great fit. Any chance we could lure Derek Shelton away, I've always like him but doubt he moves on. If from within I'd probably go with Chris Hook just because Sweet is older, Erikson has only been in A ball, and Carlos Villaneauva seems to be on the front office path. I like Will Venebles as an option. He is an ivy grad, has lots of experience and is only 40. 1)Venables 2)Kotsay 3)Shelton (if Kotsay or Shelton in play)
  5. What about vets like Hyun-Jin Ryu, James Paxton, Jake Odorizzi, Frankie Montas, Brad Keller, Alex Wood, or Vince Velasquez as a Wade Miley type free agent? My guess is Miley gets 2/24+ and that is to muc for us. Obviously alot depends on Burnes and other trade but we could still use a vet even with Rea back.
  6. Solano would be a decent add, if we don't add any big names or trade for a young upside IF he would be solid. He really is just a more consistent Owen Miller. He has really hit since 2019, not sure on left/right splits if he is a platoon guy or just a plug and play utl.
  7. I wouldnt mind Lux but as a 2nd piece. It would be nice to get 1 pitcher Sheehan/Pepiot/Stone/Frasso (I doubt Miller would be in play) and 1 IF Vargas/Busch/Lux. I would be ok adding a reliever or OF in a bigger deal, with a couple othe lower prospects. The Dodgers are going to add 2 high end starters and have lots of option at P and IF. Burnes and Weimer for Pepiot, Vargas, C Hunter Feduccia, and P Alex Vesia We could get 4 contributors in that situation and the Dodgers get OF help to go with Burnes. I still think Vargas is worth the extra to acquire. I don't have much preference in pitcher, I like Pepiot the most but injuries could make on of the others a better chose.
  8. Santana is probably ideal at 1st if we aren't going to get a big name. Top notch defense and a passable bat. On top of that he is a switch hitter so we could give Yeli or Black some games there the 1st half and maybe get someone like Wilken some time at the end of the year. Basically he could platoon either handed or be a top notch PH if a young guy passes him up.
  9. Good move, Holub looks really rae for 25 (2 way in college) He doesn't look to get a lot of extension for a 6'6" guy. Should be a guy our staff can get up a few mph work on accuracy. I still worry about the front office being cheap this offseason. Canha as a primary 1B probably isn't the best defensively and we don't really need him in the OF.
  10. MLB=Black or FA/trade, AAA=Dorrian/Devanney/Miller AA=Wilken, A+ Adams (some Boeve), A= Baez, Bitoni, Nadal? Maybe halfway-ish Wilken, Adams, and Baez could all move up a level if playing well.
  11. My guess is that he is a smart baserunner, especially with the 2 throw rule. Lots of opportunity as well being on base. My guess is that he is morr of a 30 sb guy in the majors but who knows.
  12. I don't mind Rea for 1/3.5, however this worries me that we are going to sign like 4 or 5 guys for cheap 1 year deals and get no real difference makers. We hit on Miley but last off-season wasn't great, especially since we knew we needed some offense help.
  13. Joe Jimenez got 3/26, he was good last year but has been really up and down. That should mean the relief market will be strong. It probably means guys like Williams, Payamps, Wilson, and Peguero (Milner if you want) should all have really strong trade values.
  14. Sorry for all the scenarios but here's another 1) Burnes to Toronto for SS/3B Orvelis Martinez, P Alex Manoah, and 1B Spencer Horwitz This depends a bit on how you value Manoah but we get a top 100 prospect, a potential/former top of the rotation pitcher, and intersting 1B option. 2) Payamps and Robert Moore for 2B Connor Norby I kind of have developed a thing for Norby, the O's get bullpen helps and a lesser prospect we get a power hitting 2B. 3) Weimer for P Gavin Stone We get a pitching version of Weimer essentially. 4)Willy Adames for P Trevor Rogers and 1B Troy Johnston The Marlins fill a major hole, we get an upside arm and another interesting 1B option. Pickup option on Canha, sign a vet minor league contract catcher and a bunch of minor league contract arms. Basically no DH (splits between Canha, Yeli, Contreras), Black at 3B, Martinez to AAA but Turang gets short leash if the bat isn't better. Rotation goes 6 deep with some great upside if Manoah and Rogers revert to better selves, the bullpen is still a strength.
  15. I am a bit more interested in picking over the bones of teams like the Ray's and Pads who are overbudget and will likely need to sell off some key players. Maybe even a team or 2 with new management like the Mets, Marlins, or giants.
  16. The O's are so deep with young bats it's amazing C-Adley, Basallo IF-Mountcastle, O'Hearn, Urias, Mateo, Henderson, Westburg, Ortiz, Norby, Holiday, Mayo OF-Mullins, Hays, Santandar, Cowser, Hjerstad, Bradford, Beavers And that's skipping some guys like Stowers, Frazier, Vavra, McKenna They could probably trade for 2 aces and still have a top notch young lineup.
  17. Agreed, he should be able to stick a starter as long as he can stay healthy. Even if his walks are a bit high his stuff is going to get him out of some jams. Not only the strike outs but the movement he gets on all of his pitches should get him a lot of double plays. Really with him throwing at a slightly lower arm slot and the high effort in his delivery, injuries are my only concern with him long term. The 7.5 feet extension is really impressive, especially since he can probably find a few more inches as he learns his mechanics and improves body control. I would be ok with him piggy backing with a guy like Ashby say halfway through the year. Both go 60-70 pitches and overall reduced both work loads.
  18. I have pushed a Weimer for young starting pitcher idea (Gavin Stone). That would make our OF situation easy. 1st 30-60 games LF Yeli, CF Frelick/Mitchell, RF Taylor/Mitchell When Chourio come up, LF Frelick CF Chourio RF Taylor/Mitchell, DH Yeli I would love to see Yeli attempt to learn 1B, he is athletic enough and after picking up fielding ground balls 1B isn't crazy difficult to figure out. However I feel like that would have been brought up/eluded to at some point if the club seemed inclined to do that. I am still for trading him but I don't know if he waves his no trade except for Cali (maybe a big money contender).
  19. Move Marinaccio to the Brewers or change him in Trey Sweeney?
  20. Grissom's only red flag is his defense. he was passable in 2022 at 2nd (not great) horrific at SS this year. He is a good athlete and my guess is he will be fine at 2nd long term. Any chance we could get into a Soto trade as a 3rd team. SD gets Burnes, Oswaldo Cabrera, Ron Marinachio Yanks get Soto, Houser We get Clarke Scmidt, Chase Hampton, Graham Pauley SD gets Burnes, a young OF, and established pen arm. The Yanks get Soto (and Houser) and we get 2 high upside arms, and a solid IF prospect. That would be more than we would get in a Burnes alone deal.
  21. I still think we could find a way to get Lowe or Raley. Weimer still. could be an option to get one of them if Adames isn't on the Ray's radar. I feel like the Ray's will do a bunch this offseason as there team is quickly getting more expensive. Harold Ramirez, Jonathan Aranda, and one of those prospects (Mead) could be good targets.
  22. What about this as a 3 team deal We get Luke Raley, Brandon Lowe, Manny Margot Rays get Willy Adames, Joey Weimer, and a reliever (Wilson/Peguero) We then flip Margot for a vet 1 year pitcher, say Sean Manaea Raley would be a great 1st baseman for the future and Lowe would be great a 2B. Adames fills the SS hole and Weimer and the reliever give them some young upside to and Margot balances out money for the Rays. Probably needs some editing Raley/Lowe and Margot for Adames and reliever maybe works better
  23. I would want him to get at least 1/2 a year in but once he does and is successful I would go all in on him. My guess is that in 6-7 years when he would be a free agent superstar will be getting 40+ million easy. To go say 8/120 or 11/182 would be worth the risk.
  24. I think Gasser is a good bet to get a rotation nod this year, it would be nice to get Miley back in part to mentor Gasser (and Ashby). I would put his ceiling and floor similar to Carlos Rodriguez, good chance to be a #3 starter probably worst case decent 4/5 starter.
  25. What about Gio Urshela as an under the radar 3B signing, he was pretty good defensively there last year (only 270 innings) but has been a solid bat most of his career and would probably fit into a 1/2 year deal at a reasonable sum. We would still have Black and Monte to cover if injuries occur, and Gio can play some 1st or 2b if needed.
