  1. Brad Hand would likely be a cheaper option as an early season relief help. He isn't dominate any more but a vet lefty with lots of late inning experience for 2 mill this year and a decent 24 option would be low risk. Probably to lesser prospects could get Hand here early on. It would have been nice to sign him instead of Voit in free agency.
  2. Aroldis Chapman is looking like a perfect early season trade candidate. The Royals are bad, Chapman has a 0 Era with 15 k's in 8 innings. All while averaging 100 mph. I would give up 3 interesting pieces for him, probably no top 10 or so prospects. Say Robert Moore, Hendry Mendez or Hedbert Perez, and Logan Henderson. That is a lot of young talent but nothing with a gaurentee.
  3. Hopefully Guerra passes waivers and we can get him straightened out. Claudio isn't the worst call up but Miller was great in Spring and has been better in AAA. The Tigers have zero impact lefty bats and the Angels only Ohtani so the need to get innings from a lefty the next week really isn't there. Claudio probably should have been like the 4th in line for a call up in the AAA pen.
  4. 7-3 west coast road trip against 3 solid squads. On top of that dealing with a ton of injuries and taking on every kind of adversity. Yes sir.
  5. I like German Marquez, my guess is that he would cost a little more than than Lara because he has a team option next year. I could see a potential of packaging Marquez and Daniel Bard for collection of parts around the deadline. Giolito would be nice but I would give up a top 7-8 prospect in the org for him unless he is back to his sub 3.00 era days (6 era in 16 innings). I think I like Brad Keller or Zack Greinke might be the best early season rentals (Mitch Keller as a multi year option). To be honest we will get Houser back soon and Ashby and Woody (hopefully) before mid-season. Burnes, Peralta, Lauer, Miley, Houser (Rea/Junk/Wilson) should be ok to get us to Ashby and Woody. However if we lose another starter (knock on wood) I think a Keller for a couple meh prospects would be a good idea, say Keller for Valerio/Zamora and a lotto type prospect.
  6. In my opinion, Weimer has put together a lot of good ab's, his k rate is high but it seems like there are a lot of 6-7 pitchs k's which aren't great but it appears he is seeing the ball well. He also has had a lot of deep fly balls which hopefully will fly a little better in summer. I have though Weimer's ceiling was always around .275/.370/.900 with 30/30 potential and Gold Glove caliber RF, he has shown that for sure, especially when he makes better contact. Frelick hasn't been great but I could see Frelick and Taylor coming up when Taylor is ready and Weimer and Miller going down. Then we have Taylor and Anderson for lefties in OF and Frelick in CF and Mitchell to RF for RHP.
  7. I would think Weimer goes back to AAA and TT gets some consistent playing time. If Weimer spends a few weeks in AAA it gives us that extra year of control. Ultimately he is the odd man out and would make a nice add in in a bigger trade. Say we trade Corbin, Woody, or Willy by thowing in a TT type it could unlock a better secondary prospect that a team is hesitant to trade.
  8. No. But maybe Yeli and Chourio for Trout and a sweetner (still probably not). The only deal I could see us giving up Chourio would be for a young near star (most stars the other team wouldn't do) and a few good prospects. Maybe if he has a decent but not amazing year and all 3 OF prospects are great in mlb play, I could see something next offseason.
  9. I wouldnt call TT the odd man out, I'd rather trade Voit (Philly) or maybe even Brousseau, Miller, or Urias if Anderson is playing well still in 3 weeks. I agree all of the rooks have looked great but give scoting 50-100 and there will likely be adjustments and a slump that might need a short AAA stint to adjust to.
  10. In my opinion there are multiple ways to build a Burnes trade. 1)prospects, Top 50 (preferably top 25), 2 high end prospects (at least borderline top 100 prospects), and a 4th piece (lotto type prospect/lower value mlb player aka reliever) O's=Jackson Holiday, Jordan Westburg, DL Hall, Keegan Akin 2) Clevinger style, for like 6 interesting pieces but none are huge prospects or big time young mlb talent. Yankees=Austin Wells, Spencer Jones, Trey Sweeney, Clarke Schmidt, Estevian Florial, Carson Coleman 3) mlb talent, trade him for an established mlb player who won't cost as much and more maybe 3 teams. We get Bryan Reynolds and Brett Baty Mets= Burnes Pirates=Kevin Parada, Weimer/Mitchell, David Peterson 4)Combine with Willy for a Soto style haul Dodgers= Bobby Miller, Miguel Vargas, Gavin Stone, Ryan Pepiot, and Michael Busch Probably more as well
  11. When do minor league teams normally put out a finalized roster? Great to hear the org. being semi aggressive and putting Wagoner in A+ to start the year.
  12. MVP: Woodruff/Adames CY Young: Woodruff Rookie of the Year: Turang BA Leader: (.285 Yeli, Frelick hit .301 but doesn't qualify) HR Leader: Contreras/Adames 32 ERA Leader: Woodruff 2.52 SO Leader: Woodruff 231 WAR Leader: Adames 6.3, Woody 6.8 Breakout(s): Contreras, Turang, Guerra, Ashby Disappointment(s): Multiple injuries to key players (Rowdy, Winker, Mitchell, Miley, Lauer) and bullpen issues. Bold Prediction (s): Yeli leads the league in SB, team starts slow (bullpen/injuries) 26-34, we trade Burnes O's in July (Holiday, Westburg, DL Hall, Keegan Akin and then the team plays better and sneaks in the playoffs. Front office gets lots of blame for trading Burnes to early but adds a couple key pieces at the deadline that make up for it. Record: 87-75 Playoffs- Win 1st round, lose 2nd to Dodgers
  13. Pirates 64-98, they got a bit more interesting with Santana, Choi, and Cutch add a little stability and leadership but not a ton of upside. They could be +/- 5 games if Cruz lives up to potential or if he stinks. Reds 74-88, I wanted to switch the Cubs and Reds but couldn't. Lodolo, Greene, and Ashcraft have the stuff to be the best top of the rotation in the bigs in a few years (who knows if they can reach that potential). Add in some young infield talent they could be sneaky ok. Cubs 77-85, The Cubs added a bunch of maybe's basically there entire pitching staff overachieved last year. They have some serious upside but I doubt any of there younger guys turn into all stars, Bellinger isn't likely turning back into an mvp candidate, and Swanson has been a below average SS until last year. Brewers 87-75 A lot depends on the bullpen to me. Our lineup should be better adding Contreras and Winker, and then the young guys getting a chance. However the pen is super worrisome to me. Cards 92-70 There lineup has ridiculous upside, especially if Jordan Walker puts up big numbers. There rotation is good enough to keep them in games and get to a top notch bullpen. In my opinion, to catch the Cards we need 2 hitters to be true middle if the order bats and have the young guys play well. On top of getting high quality late inning work from 2 or 3 guys not named Williams.
  14. Looking at other outlier teams, the Yankees have an interesting system and could work if they start with Volpe. The Phillies have some great pitching even with the Andrew Painter injury. The Twins could make sense with a deep farm and no obvious ace. The Angels could make some sense if it becomes clear they would lose Ohtani. The Red Sox could work if they play better than I think they will. The Ray's would fit into the Gaurdians category of they could but it wouldn't make sense because they wouldn't pay him. The Cards could work as well but I doubt anything in division that bug would go down. The D-backs could also possibly work at mid season if they are playing well and a couple of their younger prospects make a jump. Obviously the Dodgers and O's would be the best trade partners today but around the trade deadline who knows. I don't think I would package Burnes and Adames together. Separately they should get a Soto type package I doubt they get that together.
  15. I can't see us keeping Willy, either he hits like 2021 (.285, 20 hr's in 365 abs) or like last year (.238/.298/.756 30 HR). Either way he either prices himself out of town or his offensive production isn't worth 25-ish million. If we can find a way to extend someone Woodruff makes more sense, using a previous point that solid SS are easier to find than an ace. We have 2 solid replacement options in Turang and Eric Brown (potentially). I would give all the young guys good looks this year and try and get Braves like extensions for Turang, Mitchell, Contreras, Frelick, Weimer, Williams (maybe), Gasser (???). The only way we keep Willy is if we trade Yeli and I can't see us sending Yeli off without taking a big contract and making a Willy extension possible.
  16. It would be nice to trade Huira for a right handed hitting 4th OF (with some potential versatility). Jo Adell, Ramon Laureano, Sam Haggerty could all be interesting. I am sure there are a couple dozen guys that could make decent sense.
  17. I would think the Mets would be a good bet as well, they spent a ton of money and have a older staff. If Scherzer or Verlander get hurt the do have a good enough system to get Burnes. Baty would be a good start if he isn't playing great at that point of the year. I doubt we would want Parada or Alvarez but we could turn it into a 3 team deal. Baty, Parada, Mauricio, and Tidwell would be a solid package and we could then flip Parada for something else or just have him and Quero both develop and trade one in the future. We get Baty, German Marquez, Ronny Mauricio, Blade Tidwell, and a mid level Rockies prospect, Rockies get Parada and the Mets get Burnes
  18. 1)Chourio 2)Frelick 3)Weimer 4)Mitchell 5)Turang 6)Quero 7)Gasser 8)Misiorowski 9)Brown Jr. 10) Black 11) Rodriguez (P) 12)Avina 13)Mendez 14)Cruz 15)Cornielle 16)Moore 17)J Hernandez 18)Henderson 19) Wagoner 20)Guilarte 21) Lara 22) Arinamo 23) Junk 24) Uribe 25)Robinson 26)Yeager 27)H Perez 28) E Garcia 29) Devanney 30)Valerio I left off this years list of international signings, I usual like to get back some sort of report from the DSL before ranking new signings. It is amazing how deep our system feels, there are around 20 other players who I would have been comfortable putting into the top 26 or so off my list. (Small, Jarvis, briceno, Wood, O'Rae, Zamora, Adams, Severino, Casteneda, Smith, Middendorf, Knarr, Warren, Rodriguez (OF), and more are hard to argue against as org top 30 prospects)
  19. Agreed, the FA reliever market has been crazy. Anderson has enough upside with the bat and his versatility to be a big upgrade. Say he plays 3B vs lefties (Urias to 2B) and plays 2-3 times a week in the OF at least to start the year. Anderson can kind of work like Jace last year with Urias going to 2nd.
  20. I like this signing, with Miller and Toro having options it is fine. As a 4th OF and utility infielder he should be good. We have had good luck with Marlins players and when our players go there they are worse. Players have attributed the batters eye to the improvement. I would think. At least early on I would think he gets a ton of playing time with Urias going to 2B at times and Taylor in CF. He probably can play 1B occasionally as well if given some time in camp.
  21. If you think about HS School Sophmores all the best players play SS, CF, C, or P. Scouts rarely look at other positions in HS unless the team is absolutely stacked with college prospects. I would guess these international prospects are the same and when bodies fill out and the competition improves some SS become 3B/2B on CF become LF/RF.
  22. Any one have a good idea for a Red Sox trade? The seem to have hole in the middle of the field SP(health/age), 2B/SS, CF, C. I think there would be a decent chance we could give up some depth and make a nice value trade. Lauer/Houser and Toro/Brosseau/Miller/Keston for Brayan Bello We get long term piece who could be a big asset this year. The Red Sox get depth for a great arm who didn't perform great last year in the bigs.
  23. I am super interested to see what we do at the deadline especially if we are in a similar place as last year. With the Hader trade disrupting the teams psyche my guess is Arnold may stay away from trading away anyone. I agree, I most definitely purposely undervalued Arreaz in my previous trade proposal. When I said that the future Twins infield is probably Miranda, Lewis, Lee, and Correa I should have mentioned that Arreaz is a perfect utility guy to play all over and DH or allow Correa or other a day of DH'ing. Arreaz would be a perfect #2 hitter behind Yeli, then we would have two high obp. bats to set the table for Willy, Rowdy, and Contreras. To be honest Arreaz is someone I would consider trading Burnes or Woody for (along with others). Burnes for Sonny Gray, Luis Arreaz, Alex Kiroloff, a 5-10 ranked prospect. Then trade Urias, Rowdy, or Winker for prospects, Arreaz plays 3rd, 1st, or DH/Utl/2B depending on what trade benefits us most.
  24. With the Twins bringing back Correa they have tons of depth on the IF with Correa, Miranda, Arreaz, Polanco, Royce Lewis, Nick Gordon, and eventually Brooks Lee. They also have like 6 good OF options, plenty of rotation options (no real #1 or #2) options, and a solid pen. Long term they might be looking at Miranda, Lee, Lewis, and Lee in the infield. Polanco only has 1 year and Gordon is a high end utility. This leaves Luis Arreaz long term left out. Obviously he would be a nice fit in with us. The problem with a trade is that he is at top value. Rumors are all around with the Marlins and Twins, maybe we could pop in as a 3rd team to smooth out some edges. Twins get Pablo Lopez and Logan Henderson Marlins get Max Kepler, Luis Urias, and Keston Huira (Cash from Twins) Brewers get Luis Arreaz and Caleb Theilbar The Twins get a rotation upgrade, the Marlins get 3 positions offensively upgraded (OF, 3B, and DH), and we get a 3B upgrade and a decent lefty reliever.
  25. Since most are 16 you have to add an inch or 3 to all those guys. I like the scouting our system has done internationally. Signing big classes with. 2-4 higher rated guys seems like the way to go.
