That’s probably going to happen anyway, or at least the final WC won’t be settled more than two days before season’s end. Given the new format of the MLB postseason, it’s more likely than not that wild card position goes down to the wire.

Sure, but Counsell seems like the type of guy who has done just fine for himself with investments. He doesn't strike me as the type of fellow rolling a garage with four Bentleys in it.

Craig Counsell made $21,000,000 during his playing career. He has made considerable money as a manager since then. I'm incredibly skeptical this will come down to a bidding war. This will come down to what Craig Counsell wants to do in 2024.

This is a particularly enticing aspect of October. That elite Brewers defense is still there but the rotation, particularly the postseason rotation, is no longer middling.

Definitely, but I tend to discount that kind of thing and instead look at what I think the team is as a whole.

I was thinking about that. Depending on the game circumstance, I'd consider pulling him after 60 and would almost certainly have him out after 80.

Yeah, that was my rationale but woof, that Marlins offense. The way the Brewers' starters are pitching, they could pitch 15 innings of scoreless ball in two games against the Marlins.

Who would you rather see the Brewers play in the first round, the Reds or Marlins? I think I lean Reds but I'm not really sure why.

The Brewers may actually help the Cubs over the weekend. The Cubs are reeling and are currently tied with the Marlins in the final postseason spot. So while the Crew works to clinch the division, they may also be working toward a showdown with Chicago in the first round.

You don't think some players are anti-clutch? I do. I think the number is exaggerated by fans and players are hard to identify in the moment but there are plenty of pitchers in baseball who just seem incapable of handling the ninth inning but are good middle men. I think the same could apply to the postseason but it's damned hard to identify those players in the moment, largely due to sample sizes.

Meh, I had a meeting that ran through most of the game only to flip on the TV and see it's 6-0. I hate missing watching the Cards get beaten up.

Okay man, we're like 150 games into the season so I finally have to ask... do you get excited when the Brewers use an opener or a spot start just so you can rhyme a different name that day?

My assumption has always been they round up to one decimal point... like if something becomes 99.96% likely to happen, FanGraphs rounds up to 100%. Dunno if that's the case, it's just what I've determined in my head.

Welcome to Brewer Fanatic! No matter what happens with Craig, he's one of the best managers in baseball and an integral part of the best stretch of Brewers baseball in the history of the franchise. He deserves a hat tip whether he stays, retires, or goes to the Mets.
