  1. That's how to do your first home game right.
  2. 2 1/2 is just right for a baseball game. Now the 1:58 game I saw years ago was a bit quick, but Maddux vs Hershiser on a cold day = fast.
  3. The extreme positional adjustment is what makes their defensive WAR calculations dubious at best. If anything, it should be a multiplying factor, not an addition/subtraction so that bad defense at premium positions is not treated as a positive, and great defense at a less valuable position is still seen as a positive. Also for first base, do the calculations take in to account the throwing errors saved from other infield positions? Cooper was an absolute master at that.
  4. This is why I don't trust dWAR at all. Baseball-reference has him listed at -1.1 on a year he won the golden glove. He was good defensively, and outstanding at the most critical skill for a first baseman - catching the ball thrown by infielders. Not only could he stretch to the point of doing the splits to catch it that much sooner to beat the runner, but balls in the dirt rarely got by him. Replace him with an average 1B in 82 and Yount probably has a dozen more errors and doesn't win his GG. If you want to say that Prince was better overall because his OBP and slugging were better enough to make up for his defensive limitations, that's a fair argument. But there is no comparison between the two defensively. I'll put Cooper at the top of my list because of the total package. And you can't beat 10's of thousands of people screaming COOOOOOOOOOOP when he came to the plate.
  5. The pitch clock does worry me in regards to pitcher's health. It will take a while before pitchers trained to pitch as hard as they do now can adapt to some form of pacing. Especially since going all out increases the chance of winning. Athletes will do just about anything to win, and they will risk pushing things until their elbows break. The larger base rule has been shown to reduce injuries, but this one will increase them. Risk Factors for Baseball-Related Arm Injuries: A Systematic Review
  6. I also lived in SD for 8 years, but any soft spot for the Pads disappeared the second they signed Machado
  7. Ouch that's a bad start by the Reds. Almost a problem facing a team doing this poorly, because anything less than a sweep feels like a complete failure.
  8. Telllez te right is pretty darn pretty as well.
  9. While I understand the time / action factor fr attracting a younger crowd, I think a big issue is that kids aren't able to play baseball like they used to. While there are leagues from t-ball on up, the problem is that they are leagues. Parents have to pay for them and invest the time to get kids to practice/games. When I was in grade school, we could just grab a bat from school (or even bring one) and play during recess. That's just not something that happens anymore, likely for safety / liability reasons. Basketball, football and soccer just require a ball.
  10. 1) Full and equal (TV, gate and possibly others if teams find loopholes) revenue sharing. 2) Only the first 3 years of a contract can be guaranteed 3) Hard salary cap 4) Salary minimum - if teams go below, 90% of the unspent money is taken and put into the pool for pre-arby players. 5) No draft lottery (that's not the focus of tanking, so don't bother with it) 6) Qualifying Offer signing penalty First signing - no loss of picks Second - lose first round (if already gone, use third signing penalty) Third - Also lose second round and following year's first round Fourth - Also lose third, following second, and year after's first Fifth - Not allowed 7) 30 seconds between the ball in the catcher's hands and the next pitch within an at bat, 10 second batter time out allowance (max 2x per at bat) 8 ) Two infielders on each side of second, all must have at least one foot on the dirt.
  11. It wouldn't be an internet sports board if people (myself included) didn't overreact to a bad loss or a good win. Especially early in the season.
  12. I know Yelich's results were bad, but looking at his swing, it's much worse from when he was good. I wish there was a good side by side between his good years from now. Here's what it used to be: In his ninth inning K, there was no power being generated from his lower half. His plant step looks like it is stopping momentum, and his hip rotation was about half of what it was in the above video. The results made it look like a mediocre little league swing, with low bat speed and no power. The Brewers hitting coaches have to know this, so there must be something causing his bad form. If there is something going on with his health, he needs to be on the IL, or retire injured and let the Brewers collect the insurance.
  13. Good signing for a good price. You can never have too many reliable arms.
  14. Yes, thanks Brian for creating this haven for Brewers fans. Making it a haven for passionate, yet intelligent discussions. Good enough to even catch the eye of a Brewers radio announcer. And thanks to the mods for keeping this place under control and not allowing it to become the usual troll-filled cesspool that so often happens on the internet.
  15. Agreed. The best thing about this forum was the moderation always keeping the focus on the discussion and keeping internet speak off the site. I am not a fan of any buttons for like/dislike or anything else like that. There are plenty of other places around the web for that. They are useful if you want to acknowledge a good or funny post but don't have anything substantive to add and don't want to clutter the board too much. We can probably do with like, +1, Yikes and Woah Solvdd. The negative ones should be skipped in favor of actual discussion.
  16. I can't tell if you are serious or not. But "Bro" is gender nuetral. It's used for male, female, whatever, even animals... If it has a pulse, it can be a "bro." FYI I believe dj is being 100% serious and I agree with them on it. Just because you consider “bro” to be gender neutral, doesn’t mean everybody does and it doesn’t change the meaning of we choose to be inclusive with the button (having yikes instead of yikes bro). I also disagree about 'Bro' being gender neutral. But even if it were, it changes the focus of the reaction. 'Yikes' is a reaction to the content of a post. 'Yikes bro' is a reaction to the poster as much as the post. In this forum we have strived (sometimes with great effort by the mods) to keep comments focused on topics and content and not on the posters. A 'yikes bro' reaction will throw that off.
  17. Unless Renfroe goes out and destroys NL pitching in 2022, he's likely a one and done player for the Brewers, so the savings is likely closer to 10 million. This is also the reason he is on the Brewers in the first place: his increasing cost is outpacing the value of his production. Also there's a big difference between paying Refroe to play and paying JBJ to not play.
  18. Any idea on how many options remaining? Looks like he was rushed a bit last year to AAA and MLB after not being above A+ ball previously. Not surprising he struggled. Lets see if the Brewers can get him dialed in at the top levels.
  19. Stunned he got it, but his numbers were impressive. Wheeler certainly had a case for it, and Brewers always seem to be overlooked when there's a choice to be made. When looking at the voting, the biggest surprise was picking up a vote from one of the LA writers. As for the last time it happened. Even as a 13yo die hard Brewers fan, I didn't think Vuckovich was all that good and didn't deserve the award.
  20. The other concern is if a new guy comes in and wants to put 'his guy' in as manager. I'd really hate to lose CC to politics.
  21. The only thing I can think of is that they had all views synched up, so that they could see both the tag and the touch together. There was no single, clear shot to justify the overturn.
  22. Agreed. For me, this game is going on mute. I'm sure this is good for some out of market fans, but as far as I'm concerned, the YouTube game of the week can just go away. Edit - missed the tip on how to get the Brewers radio announcers. Much better.
  23. Odd stat: in the last 22 games, the Brewers have won 4, lost 1, won 4, lost 2, won 4, lost 3, won 4. I'm fine with the pattern ending there, though.
  24. Shouldn't Shaw be in the August departures?
