For all the well deserved accolades that Counsell has received over the past years, it is a head scratcher how he has handled the playing time of several players this year. As this article attests Wiemer really hasn’t played very much since the end of July. It really doesn’t make much sense that he (and Arnold) hasn’t sent him to Nashville to get him some much needed playing time. Goodness, he needs the playing time and some confidence to further his career. It’s really is a crime for him to languish on the bench not playing at all and get much needed experience.
Other than this, his handling Anderson, batting Frelick and Adames clean up and some of the ways how he has used Payamps, Elvis, Chafin and Wilson lately has been perplexing and not consistent with how he had handled the bullpen earlier this year.
