  1. I'm curious how many of my posts in this thread concern Drew Olson (the laziest sports journalist in town), but here we go again. Today, he was on with Bob & Brian and said that "there's no reason the Brewers can't win 20 of 25, because it's not like they're getting blown out every night." Really Drew? Winning 20 of 25 is rare for any team, let alone one with ginormous holes at 2B, SS and every inning after the 6th.
  2. I have no problem trading him to StL. We're not going to the playoffs this year, so I really don't care who goes. Just get the best return.
  3. I was thinking the same thing, but then figured it all gets evened out by the tie games the bullpen blows or the close games that the bullpen allows to get blown open. Either way, it sucks! Exactly. We're just splitting hairs on suckitude at this point.
  4. While I agree the bullpen has been generally craptacular, that stat is a little mis-leading, as any lead blown in (i believe) the 7th or later counts as a blown save. Some of those still turn into wins.
  5. The problem is that there is no way that MA & DM view the Ramirez contract as bad. They obviously thought he was worth it 8 months ago, and he hasn't performed worse than expectations (slow start, heat up in summer, decent defense, healthy). I think they'd have to be blown away to trade him.
  6. I'm ok with this. There have been success stories with teams that have brought guys up and started them in the pen. The Twins have done it a few times, someone else already mentioned Sale. One other thing to consider is that there are scouting reports (Keith Law is the one that immediately comes to mind) that do not project Thornburg to stay as a starter due to his flyball tendencies and lack of downhill plane. Now might be a good time to see what he can do in a late inning role. Just because he's taking Dillard's spot on the roster doesn't mean he's taking Dillard's role. I'd like to see what he can do with some high leverage 7th innings.
  7. I'm not really interested in buying one of these, but I have a question about how this is getting produced Are you commissioning a bobblehead through this company? I've heard of people doing that for weddings and the like, but none of those used trademarked professional sports logos on them. I have to assume MLB and the Brewers would not be too happy about their logos being used. How does this company get around this?
  8. It's not just people here saying that. I saw a report yesterday that said the Braves are scouting Greinke and would be interested if they could sign him long term at $15MM per year, rather than $20MM per. If he could be signed for $15MM, the Brewers would have done that already.
  9. I think those are all shooting too high. I'm not sure they could get Castenallos for Greinke, let alone an injured Marcum.
  10. I'm interested to see how GMs will value rentals. I think it's human nature for them to think about past years and then reduce their perceived value, since they won't get draft picks. Between the extra wildcard and the fact that players like Grienke are worth more than to their existing team (at least in terms of draft picks) than to other teams, I think the activity at the trade deadline will be down this year.
  11. If telling your wife something is getting you in trouble down the line, perhaps you should also review the definition of "don't tell anyone."
  12. I'm not getting my hopes up for Profar. Maybe under the old system, but with the new CBA, Grienke is truly a rental for whomever we trade him to. Texas just gets 2 months worth of starts. No picks, and given the way free agency has gone the last few years, no real edge in re-signing him. To me, that doesn't equal Profar or Olt.
  13. Well, this is interesting...http://www.rotoworld.com/headlines/nba/182710/rockets-trade-dalembert-to-bucks-for-package The Rockets have traded Samuel Dalembert and the No. 14 pick to the Bucks in exchange for Jon Brockman, Jon Leuer and Shaun Livingston.
  14. Saw a tweet from MLBTR indicating Omar announced he's retiring at season's end. He's going to have to get white-hot to get to 3000.
  15. The scariest part of all of this discussion is the description of the type of team that would sign him - one that doesn't have anything at short, will sign guys that can't hit and likes a veteran presence. Gulp, that's the Brewers. Get ready for Omar Vizquel bobblehead day!
  16. I'm not sure how anyone can claim this. 246/293/348 doesn't scream "pretty damn well" to me. Add to that his defense, which was nothing spectacular (and I'd argue worse than Hart), and I don't think it's a given he's a central part of the plan next year. Yes, he's left handed and cost controlled, which helps, but I don't think you can cite his MLB performance as a reason for him being a starter. As others have pointed out, he's had good minor league numbers, which would hopefully lead to good MLB numbers. That just hasn't happened for a variety of reasons, some out of Mat's control, and some very much within his control.
  17. Who would you be less excited about the Brewers signing today - Livan Hernandez or Bill Hall? I honestly don't know.
  18. PNC Park AT&T Park Miller Park Coors Field Great American Ballpark New Busch Stadium County Stadium Wrigley Field Fulton County Stadium Old Comiskey Stadium Metrodome
  19. "Locked up Abroad" just started again on NatGeo. This show fascinates me, mostly because people try to smuggle drugs internationally and are then surprised when the justice system in other countries isn't like the US. Idiots or not, the first person accounts are pretty cool. Last week was the first guy to sucessfully escape from the Mexican maximum security prison since Pancho Villa in 1912!
  20. If I could hear DM recite that quote and punctuate it with "and that," my life would be complete.
  21. I'd trade him for Tulo, but that's probably about it.
  22. Working in an office full of people that don't agree with me politically. I'm not vocal about my views, so many of them don't know how I vote, but there are a lot of poor winners around here today.
  23. No doubt you can get a lot of food for not too much money in Milwaukee. I didn't feel like I got very much for the money at Rumpus. Good value compared to Chicago, sure. Good value compared to places within a 2 mile radius, not so much. All in all, Milwaukee has a great (and improving) dining scene.
  24. I went to Rumpus Room over the winter and was disappointed. Beer selection was good, but there are lots of places downtown with good beer selection. We split 2 appetizers, one entree (which might have been a sandwich) and had a total of two beers and it was close to $60. I could see stopping in there for drinks, but I don't think I'll eat there again soon. For casual, good beer list, decent food, I prefer one of the Cafe Centraal, Trocadero, Cafe Hollander places.
