  1. I'd say yes for sure. IMO: Boston>Brewers Yankees=or>Cubs Toronto>St. Louis Baltimore=Houston Tampa
  2. My girlfriend's cell phone is on it's absolute last legs. It still kinda works, but she wants a new one, and she'd prefer not to sign a new contract. Does anyone have a decent T-Mobile (sim card) compatible phone they'd wanna part with on the cheap? I'm looking at you hipster types who get a new phone every 3 months because the old one is "outdated garbage". She really doesn't care about the sweet bells and whistles like camera, bluetooth, and MP3 capability. Edit: I don't have any memorabilia to offer in trade. So it'd probably be a cash transaction.
  3. Chinatown for sure. That, and find some local seafood restaurants near the wharf. I've had incredible seafood meals down there for under $15 but can't remember the names.
  4. I've never done pilates so I can't say. I got into Yoga by buying a couple $10-$15 DVD's. Yeah, I guess it gets a little stale to do the same routine over and over, but I spent less than $50 for my collection, and can use it for years. I've always had knee and back pain and Yoga has done much more than any non-medical/pharmacological treatment option I've ever tried.
  5. Yoga annihilates joint pain.
  6. You're best off simply donating your money. As was mentioned, they typically have hook ups to buy food at extremely low prices and even get stuff donated by manufacturers - their problem is the cost of transporting everything, which you can help by donating cash. I volunteered at a food pantry and the problem didn't seem to be the amount of food, but the manpower to sort through it all and prepare it for distribution.
  7. This is the sad part of steroids, assuming Thomas is indeed all natural. The legacy of guys that were simply genetic freaks will be tarnished by those who used roids to attain the same stature. I know several guys who are huge and who I know for an absolute fact have never been steroid users. Sometimes, there's just that guy who can bench 300 lbs in 8th grade. It's just that such people are not as common as widespread steroid use has led some people to believe.
  8. "Girlfriend" by Avril Lavigne would be a good one for him.
  9. I think Igor's right in that there would be some effect in very specific situations, but that's just a tiny amount of noise that won't affect the overall data set. If Babe Ruth in his prime were playing for a garbage offense, he probably gets walked a ton while he wouldn't with Barry Bonds and Hank Aaron behind him. However, having an .800 OPS guy behind you instead of a .725 OPS guy probably does jack squat except in a couple situations that depend more on handedness than ability.
  10. It'd have to be interleague, or he could be traded, but Mike Jacobs would be my pick to be the next. Milb.com also lists 6 position players with the last name Jacobs and 10 named Miller.
  11. Behaviorally, it makes perfect sense. When a skill is trained and performed in a particular stimulus condition, it typically fails to generalize perfectly to another setting. It's similar to the oft-quoted results of studies that showed that test performance is best when you're in the same state as when you studied and acquired the skill. Additionally, in this case, I'm sure a lot of it has to do with being in a novel place, with a novel bed, and being fatigued from travel. I think anyone who has ever had to work out of a hotel in an unfamiliar place can relate.
  12. His son had Fragile X, and not autism. Fragile X is hereditary while autism is pretty unexplained, other than that it's known there's a genetic component. Because it's fragile X and not autism, that makes it more plausible that he had physical abnormalities that could be treated with HGH.
  13. I see no way that the Cubs make the wild card. The west alone could have two teams with as good a record as the central champs. You aren't getting into the playoffs out of the central unless you win the division.
  14. I wish the stupid voting system would simply allow you to vote 25 times at once. It's so annoying going through and simply re-casting the same ballot for 20 minutes. Of course, I'd assume it's for security purposes and to avoid ballot stuffing.
  15. The problem is that unless your name's Vlad, you probably can't maintain results like this if you're chasing too much. Soon, opponents will find the pitch you'll chase but can't hit. It seems that a lot of free swingers that start out hot end up having some serious growing pains, like Jeff Francoeur. Braun, fortunately, has a history of being happy taking a walk, so I'm sure he'll show more discipline as he matures.
  16. The public outrage that would be evoked by doming the stadium would set the franchise back to 2002. It'd be cheaper to fix the roof than to deal with the PO'd fans who'd drop this team like a bad habit the second they fell under .500.
  17. The Yankees are far too arrogant, and their fans are far too fickle for them to ever consider themselves out of it. It'd take several years of futility before them being sellers is plausible.
  18. to what extent are we overvaluing Hart, though, just because the current month's memory is of him making jokes out of opposing pitchers? I don't think the board in general overvalues Hart. Many of us have been big fans from the early minor league days, while others have caught on more recently. I think that the current "never trade him at any cost" group is probably equal in size to the minority who once said Hart would never be an adequate major leaguer. I think stating that "there's no way we trade him in the next few years because nobody will offer close to fair value" would be a much more realistic assessment of Hart's future.
  19. If the Brewers don't get him and the Cards do, there could be a silver lining. If they give up a nice crop of prospects for him, the Cards still can't win the division, and he doesn't re-sign, the Brewers win. Likewise, if they are gonna sign him anyway, the Brewers can still win simply by them thinning out their farm system to get him 3 months earlier.
  20. This is just absolute freakin' stupidity. OF in one area where we don't have organizational strength, we have a huge dropoff behind Hart, have no more than one year left of Jenkins and Mench, and don't exactly have a situation where he's blocking Hunter Pence or anything. Honestly, he's probably only behind Prince and tied with JJ as the hardest position player to replace from within the organization. We'd have to start Jenkins every day and have Gross and Mench platoon in the other corner. I cringed as I typed that. The only way it's less than a moronic idea is if we're getting back another younger outfielder with years left who's a superior player but has to be salary dumped. The closest thing I could think of would be if Anaheim sucked and wanted to dump Vlad for Hart+.
  21. As holding isn't always intentional. Sometimes the difference between a great block and hold is so slight it is hard to judge the difference. Even then, it's not even like you can look at plays and clearly say it's holding or not, since the definition is not nearly as concrete as "step on the bag". I'd say holding is more like rounding the bag but missing it by a half-inch.
  22. I think the dates on the back of caps denote the year's model that hat is based off.
  23. I hate ticket charges. Every ticket to every event now carries a fee that can be 25% in some case. Wait a minute, you're charging me to buy something from you? That makes no friggin' sense. Stop thinking you're tricking me and just charge $27 instead of calling it an $18 ticket with $9 in fees.
  24. I demand that anyone who buys it for Wii posts a review. It's gonna either be awesome with the motion control, or they'll botch it and it'll suck like you can't imagine.
  25. Architecture wise, the Gamecube/wii has no comparison to the PS3 or 360. What is it, one circuit board with SD memory? I don't mean to infer that MS didn't design a sub par system (there have been systematic issues, for sure), reliability wise, but let's compare apples to apples, please. The more sophisticated an electronic component is, the better the chance something goes wrong. Those systems are still more durable than the Genesis, Sega CD, or PS1, though, which they're obviously way more advanced than. Other companies, in each generation, have not made a system as reliable as Nintendo. NES killed Master System and SNES killed Genesis and TG-16 (but not Neo-Geo, which was also a bajillion dollars). Several of my clients, who are young kids with autism, tote around their gameboy variants and beat them like you would not believe - but they still have the same one and it still works. Let's see a PSP stand up to a couple tantrums these kids can throw. I think Nintendo takes into account that its systems will be played by young kids and designs them accordingly so they won't be broken. Adults replace broken electronics while parents hold a grudge and will lose all brand loyalty when they buy something for their kid that breaks down.
