He's 94.0 MPH. I remember him as a guy who could sit 97-99 and was filthy... and now SD doing exactly what we normally do. They've flipped the script on us and this is the match up I don't like. I also feel like Ortiz could have gotten that DP.

You wouldn't call 72 PAs small, but Mitchell's is microscopic? OK... I certainly agree that Mitchell's is very small... not that 72 PAs is "not small." But there also has to be some feel. Mitchell clearly appears lost up there. I'm more confident Lara can battle and use his legs to do some damage and stay in an at bat. But, hey, Mitchell is playing so, I'm going to hope you're right and he can reset and give us some competitive at bats.

Ok, first, it's a tiny sample. 2nd, Mitchell is NOT looking like regular season Mitchell. I trust Yelich right NOW... a HELLUVA lot more than I've trusted him in the regular season. I trust Frelick more than I trust Turang. You have to account for the moment. It SEEMS too big for Mitchell... so far. You're also using a Sample Size of 70 PAs where he had a very low BABIP for his profile.

I really like moving Yelich up. He is having a helluva series. Great ABs. I don't love Mitchell, but I've never had much faith, and he's proven me wrong a lot this year. Do it again... That's my thought... he doesn't look afraid up there. "No pop," isn't a great reason to not go to Lara either. You have ZERO pop when you're taking a defensive hack on 3-1.

I think you're probably right, BUT... to me, the process is almost as important at this point. Lara doesn't look like a scared 21-year-old kid. Mitchell, he looks... a bit scared. Plus, I'm honestly not sure Lara isn't our best defensive option. Not the reason to start him, but I like the ABs Lara has given you.

Yeah, extra's would be a spot. But a sizable lead? I don't think so. Our Pen hasn't been abused. Certainly not for a playoff series. We have a Fresh Patrick, Ashby, Megill haven't thrown a ton of pitches. Murph's right... I don't want to even say the other circumstance, but Gasser struggles early. That'd be a worst case. I'm greedy though. I want Mis vs LAD(or maybe ATL).

I know we have to win THIS series... but this is where if you want to really push the LAD, you can't burn Mis. You need to go out and put your boot on the neck of the Padres and don't let them up. And for the love of God, make them throw pitches. No 8 pitch first inning. Chourio, more than anyone... his approach can change the series. Jumping at the 1st pitch, you've got a good chance to get him out. If he's taking or just not extending, you're good. But Mitchell, Turang, they're swinging defensively early in the count. That has to change!

I guess I could see it if you get into the 7th or so and you have Tatis, Machado and France as 3 of the 4(likely with Merrill in there)... But I don't really like that unless you have the lead. We CAN come back. We've proven that and we were SO damn close to doing it again last night, but we can't rely on that. We have to have good ABs early and put pressure on SD. I'd also love to see an opener for Gasser, but... that's just me.

Yes, you guys know you can present evidence and people can still disagree, right? Using the logic of the article, you wouldn't start Vlad against a pitcher with a good slider because he hit .136 against sliders this year compared with .342 against four-seamers. And what the article doesn't establish merely by showing Vaughn's four-seam/sweeper split is how much worse Vaughn is against sweepers than comparable MLB hitters, after accounting for the quality and location of the sweepers he's seeing. Good sweepers/sliders are obviously hard to hit. Struggling against them relative to four-seamers doesn't, by itself, establish that you're better off using a hitter part-time. I'm also NOT someone screaming that Vaughn has to start tonight, because I don't know who you sit against a RHP. Bauers has been the guy all year; I'm not sitting him because of a couple ugly ABs. And you're sure as hell not sitting Yelich with the ABs he's having right now. But here's the part I don't understand: if we're accepting the article's logic, shouldn't Vaughn be your starting 1B tonight? Buehler throws his cutter/4-seamer/changeup about 54% of the time and slider/sweeper about 18%. His four-seamer has been getting hit all year. That sounds almost exactly like the type of RHP the article says Murphy has been choosing to start Vaughn against.

Oh, on THAT, I hate the trade, I hated the trade then, I continue to hate the trade. You don't give up 18-year-olds with that type of talent(don't care so much about Ragsdale TBH). I felt BETTER because you had another 18-year-old kid come up and hit well, but Frias looks like that true power hitter who bucks the Brewers trends a bit. Not a great defender. More like a young... not Yordan Alvarez, but POTENTIALLY a big power hitter. Maybe he flames out, I just would not ever make THAT trade). I literally even ended the Jose Soriano trade by saying I hope they don't do the VERY thing they did. Trade a guy LIKE Frias for a rental... and then they did. But I already beat that dead horse. He's now on the team. So at THAT point... I'm just going to root for the team. If we'd have traded Henderson, Pena and Adamczewski for Skubal, I'd have hated it, but now I'd be rooting for Skubal. I'm trying to separate the trade from the decision now... and I liked May, he came out and looked great and then the Pads got some GB base hits. So agree on the trade, but that's over now. As for tonights game, I think I'd personally go Patrick for 2-3 IP, then Gasser in the right spot, then BP.

Considered... I don't really buy it. I think it's a tough spot, but he's giving us really good ABs vs righties as well. It's just kinda tough because the ABs I'd HAVE taken from Vaughn would have been #1-Yelich and if you play Vaughn everyday you're losing a lot on defense... so it's hard, but I think Vaughn is a very good hitter and no, I don't think it's because of how he's been used. He came over last year and he got plenty of ABs vs RHers and he was good. This year he's very good(when that's his weak split) also. I'm definitely keeping him and handing the 1B job to him next year. I just don't know... how you decide who gets the ABs this year.

I think I hated that trade more than anyone, but May was the OBVIOUS starter last night... and I haven't seen a single person insinuate he was the "savior of this pitching staff." Show me who said that and... I'll argue with them! -Dominated Padres this year in 3 starts. -He has elite stuff. We saw that. -He was hardly bad as people are inferring, but that's the outcome, I'm talking about the reason for starting him. I don't like the lefties vs the Padres. Gm3 vs LAD, sure, Drohan for 2-3, Maybe feel out Harrison(that'd be nice if he could throw like he did his last outing). But vs SD? A soft tossing left? I hope tonight proves me wrong, but then... you still had him to come back to. With Priester out, Woodruff, then Kyle Harrison going from Co-Ace to... not good, I think telling May to go out there and empty the tank was the right choice. Even the sequence where they scored, you have a GB through the IF. You had a SB, sac bunt, two more singles through the inning... I believe they were on the ground. He kept the ball down. But "savior" for the Brewers? That's an entirely new one to me. Just an imperfect #3 option.

Oh... so then it's not so much he CAN'T lift the ball, it's when he hit it 107, it just happened to be right at someone and because you know the outcome, you'd prefer he go down 0-1 than taking his best swing and BLISTERING a ball up the middle in ALMOST identical fashion to what Chourio did to walk off the Padres in game 2? But sure, you got me. When the ball goes 107 right at a player, it's not a good outcome. What you DON'T have is that the PROCESS was bad and you just keep saying... basically, 'yeah huh,' and... then... it was a "horrible" decision. LOL... 107, again, ALMOST IDENTICAL to Jackson Chourio. 107.1 7 LA 108 8 LA The difference, they TRIED to make a diving play on Chourio, they didn't. They tried to make a diving play on Yelich... they did. ALSO, on the previous AB he hit the ball 107.2 with a 10 LA(HUGE difference... I guess). So I GUESS I'll put down Jackson in "horrible" swing decision in Gm2 also... if it was 0-0? You're just dug in. There's no coherent argument that it "horrible decision to swing at that pitch." Sometimes... baseballs are hit REALLY hard at players. And when you have an xBA of .670 on a ball, sure, you can ARGUE it's a bad decision or process, but do you really believe it? I'm skeptical you do. Yelich had ELITE ABs to tonight. 2-4 1BB, he hit the ball hard 3 times and they made a great play to get him out. His performance, if ANYTHING, should be a huge reason for optimism. Not a "horrible" decision. This isn't little league playing pepper. Sometimes you smoke a ball and it's right at someone when facing an ace. The OUTCOME does not always determine the quality of the PROCESS.
