  1. It would be one thing to trade McGehee for something valuable (like when Spivey was dealt for Tomo Ohka...and Melvin could probably get a better player than Ohka for McGehee). It would be entirely another thing to make a successful 28 year old third baseman ride the bench in favor of a questionable prospect. Anyway, most of this discussion is probably moot since it seems more and more like the Brewers do not foresee Gamel as their third baseman of the future. Hence why he had been seeing action in the outfield and at first base.
  2. Not quite what you were looking for, but here's a rendering of what the finished product should look like: http://dailyreporter.com/files/2010/07/miller-park.gif Edit: I didn't realize this had already been posted on the first page of the thread. Sorry for the redundancy!
  3. Note that Melvin has already been picking up a few RHPs this winter. Another one of his "scrap heap" pickups will end up sticking, if I had to wager.
  4. I don't know. I lost some respect for Sabathia when that quote came out from him about how the Indians traded him away and he had nothing to do with it.
  5. Well, I'd love to say that I had a similar experience to Hawing's relish tray encounter last night, but I did not. After going to church, we came back to the in-laws' house and were greeted by quite a spread. There in the center sat the much anticipated relish tray. At first, I was pretty pleased. I must say this thread set my expectations pretty high. There were olives and two different kinds of pickles. However, upon further inspection, there was only ONE kind of pickle present on said relish tray! Well, needless to say, this was completely unacceptable. I flew into a violent rage and whipped the relish tray into the patio doors in disgust. I'm not quite sure what happened next, but amid the cacophony of barking dogs and screaming relatives, I blacked out. I later on awoke face down in a snow bank, with an empty bottle of Korbel brandy next to me. Thanks for nothing, Brewerfan.net!
  6. Good job davego. I listen to Dave Ramsey a lot as well. I don't 100% follow everything he says, but for the most part his philosophy makes a lot of sense.
  7. Either way we're on the hook for $3-4 million total for Betancourt. Doesn't matter if it's this season or next in the grand scheme of things.
  8. I don't follow this logic. I have some sort of vandetta against McGehee but you think we should bench him if he struggles a bit? If you think it is so illogical that Gamel could be better than McGehee why would you bench McGehee just because he struggles? I guess by "struggle at the start of the season", I meant like after a month or two. Not just a week or two and then bench him.
  9. This scum bag has no value to society at all. Let him rot in prison.
  10. Wow, this is exactly the article I was referring to, and you posted it a minute later. Guess we're on the same wave length.
  11. It's been widely credited that McGehee improved by adjusting his batting stance. I would say he has one of the best strokes on the team. I can't remember where, but I recall reading a really informative write up about him from about a year. Wish I could remember who wrote it.
  12. I think a lot of people rag on Holliday's defense for that one play.
  13. Seems like they've been signing a few righties. Must've been worried they had too many lefty pitchers I guess. Edit: Adam McCalvy says it's a one year non-guaranteed deal for $875,000.
  14. strawboss, I agree especially that he may have ranked the Red Sox too high. I think maybe a bit of the good ol' "Bristol bias" may be in play there. The A's seem hard to project and I think you're right that they may be too high as well. I admit I'm not even sure who their 5th starter will be since Sheets won't be back.
  15. McGehee has hit well in the majors for two seasons. That is a fact. You just don't up and bench a guy like that. If he struggles at the start of the season, fine, then you can you bench him. Until then, you stick with the player as he is still in his prime and cost controlled. Gamel probably can turn into a decent major leaguer. Frankly though, I think his highest value will be as Prince's replacement at 1B, or going to RF and having Hart take over at first. I don't see room for him on the major league roster at the start of the year and think he would best benefit by starting at 1B in Nashville.
  16. logan, obviously you just have some sort of vendetta against McGehee, or a biased favoritism towards Gamel. Nothing you really laid out follows any sort of reasonable logic.
  17. It's just that he is clearly at the tail end of his career and has been hampered by injuries. He was a good player, but I'm not even sure he'll be able to play this year. He's also going to turn 41 this summer. I just don't see the upside of signing him with guys like Dickerson and Boggs already signed.
  18. Buster Olney in his latest column ranks the top 10 rotations in MLB. He put the Brewers 6th overall, behind the Phillies, Giants, A's, Rays, and Red Sox. Seems like a reasonable projection to me. FWIW, the only other NL Central team he ranked was St. Louis. He puts the Cardinals as "8b", tied with Atlanta.
  19. There has to be another decent defender out there we can get as a plan B for SS if Betancourt proves too problematic. Luis Cruz.
  20. Brewers not the "mystery team."
  21. I don't think 9 packs are on sale yet anyway.
  22. Actually, I think LaTroy Hawkins meets the criteria you've laid out. Hopefully he can have a bounce back year this season.
  23. I read yesterday that he Pirates were heavily interested in him. Seems like it would make sense at this point.
  24. Make Casey McGehee a bench player? After his past two seasons? Come on, that is just not going to happen and would be a huge slap in the face to McGehee... Anyway, I like the platoon option for both SS and CF.
