  1. I'll reiterate that while I'm ready to see Macha gone, I don't think you can blame him for the results of '09 and '10. He was saddled with terrible starting pitching.
  2. Cain had an option for 2012, and that was re-done in spring training. He now is a signed player through 2012. He'd be a good get for Fielder. Good catch. I actually did check on Cot's and completely missed that he was signed for 2012. I still don't think SF will deal him. It seems like if a Fielder/Cain swap was going to happen, it would have already. Still, having him for two seasons would make such a trade much more attractive for the Brewers. You are also probably right that the Giants don't have a ton of payroll flexibility, so maybe a trade is possible.
  3. Yeah. I was able to look at it now and it just basically speculated that if Fielder doesn't bring enough in return, the team could opt to keep Prince and deal Weeks instead. Just off-season ideas more than anything substantive.
  4. If you're talking about the Cheese Days parade in Monroe, I know. How dare it rain on Cheese Days?!I was actually referring to the Gemutlichkeit Parade in Jefferson.
  5. I wouldn't be excited getting Cain for Fielder at this point. He's a free agent after next season. I would ask the Giants to give up Bumgarner or another guy with more years of control left, or go pound sand. That said, I too am hoping the Giants miss the playoffs.
  6. Taylor definitely laid at least some of the groundwork for when Melvin took over, so you're correct in that, Nottso.
  7. Braun still has a much higher career OPS+ than Tulowtzki. 140 vs 115. I do realize that Tulo plays better defense and this thread is going to quickly devolve into some kind of WAR argument, though.
  8. Was supposed to go to a parade today...weather outside sucks. Not sure if we'll go or not.
  9. I'd love to see them knock the Giants out of contention. Not sure why, but I'm just getting a bit sick of that team.
  10. Hardy looked like garbage all of last season in the majors. At least Escobar looked good in his limited MLB time. Yes, I know it was a small sample...but Melvin made those moves to get younger and cheaper. Imagine how this team would have looked had Hardy and Cameron been retained... We know you hate Escobar, Gomez, and most of what Melvin has done. No need to keep drilling over the same points ad nauseum.
  11. My stupid ESPN Insider login doesn't seem to be working yet again, or I'd let you know.
  12. I thought Peterson signed a two or three year deal?
  13. Hawing, how would they impress the men in the audience if they're not wearing makeup? Totally kidding...
  14. Hasn't the NL/AL difference for pitching been proven to be pretty minimal? I could be wrong on that one. I wouldn't mind getting Ervin Santana for McGehee, but I doubt it would happen.
  15. I think trying to compare value of players from completely different eras is a relatively fruitless endeavor.
  16. I feel the same way and I'm only 30.
  17. But you could look at it as him getting adjusted to being a full time starter and being fully ready for 2012. With all of Rogers' past injuries, I don't know if they should be that concerned with using one year of service time at this point.
  18. I think she's annoying.
  19. You mean we could have had Schiraldi??? /blue
  20. Yeah. I know he tries, but I'm not big on Craig Coshun.
  21. I don't see the downside of starting Rogers in the majors next season, if he looks good in spring training. Jeffress should start in Huntsville or Nashville and be a mid-season call-up candidate.
  22. Yeah, I agree hawing. Playing the Twins once a year would be plenty, and would make it more special when they do come to Miller Park. I think the "rivalries" are a bigger deal in places like Chicago, New York, LA, where you have two teams in once metro area. There it's not as big a deal for fans to travel cross town.
  23. Well, you may be right Briggs. Anyway, I remember reading that the White Sox may have been willing to throw in a bat to "sweeten" the deal a bit. I don't know if that was ever confirmed or not, but I don't remember it being framed as "Hudson for Fielder, straight up" during the trade deadline. If Melvin can't get a pitcher back at least as good as Hudson for Fielder this winter (or at the least another player of similar value, pitcher or not), it's going to be pretty disappointing.
  24. The fact is he's only 24. If Rogers was already 26-27, there would be much less to get excited about.
