  1. Not sure why you would slight Meek...he has been pretty outstanding this season as a reliever for the Pirates. Both ERA and WHIP below 1.00.
  2. Apparently he will be throwing out the first pitch on Friday night.
  3. From Tyler Barnes on Twitter: "Brewers announce today that Geoff Jenkins will officially retire as a Brewer during a July 9 press conference at Miller Park." Good for Geoff, I say.
  4. Ah, OK, I had totally forgotten he had cleared waivers. My bad.
  5. I do think Bumgarner has been perhaps over-hyped a bit (maybe because the Giants have been so successful with young starting pitchers), but I would trade Hart for him every single time and not think twice about it. At worst, he's just an OK starting pitcher. At best he is a strong top of the rotation guy who can complement Gallardo for the next five years or more. I do not think trading Hart and/or Fielder is necessarily rebuilding. That would imply not being competitive for the next season or two. I prefer to think of it more as a re-tooling for next year. We have position players to come in and fill those positions. What this team does not have is legitimate SP options to call up. How do things look now that Gallardo is injured? Comparing this team without Hart and Fielder to the teams of the '90s (well, mid to late '90s) is a pretty far reach. The talent level on the current club and depth in the minors is vastly superior.
  6. Macha has said that Gallardo "will not pitch" in the All-Star Game. I suppose that was sort of a forgone conclusion.
  7. Jordan Schelling of MLB.com does say it's in case Gallardo goes on the DL.
  8. The whole thing. Davis has been bad this year (I guess you will argue he's been unlucky, but he has to be one of the unluckiest pitchers in the game this season), and while Bush hasn't been great, he's been OK. In fact, he's been fine as a #4/5 type starter, which is all he should be on a team trying to make the playoffs. It's obvious he isn't the same since getting injured last year, but I wouldn't just flat out say he's "a bad pitcher."
  9. Well, Gomez is playing today, so I'm not sure a send down is imminent.
  10. Bumgarner for Hart, straight up. Get it done, Doug.
  11. A "superior player" who was having a horrible year and was starting to show a bad attitude, and also isn't exactly lighting the world on fire this season. I absolutely think calling up Escobar and seeing what he could do at the MLB level was the correct decision. Maybe the Hardy/Gomez trade was just throw-away for throw-away, but that's another entire discussion.
  12. Well, I personally have never understood why the last three months of the previous season never factor into people's thinking. It's like half a guy's season gets completely disregarded. I think it's about having the best overall players play, not just the guys who were hot for April-June of a given season.
  13. Why would the Mariners possibly want Gomez, though? Last I checked they had a pretty good CF in Franklin Gutierrez. Putting up much better numbers than Gomez.
  14. And some of the blame seems to fall on Gamel for his attitude/preparation/whatever. I don't know of any other prospects that have been wrecked/destroyed/murdered by Ken Macha since he became Brewers manager.
  15. I blame Melvin more for the Gamel situation last year than Macha. When it was obvious Gamel wasn't going to play a lot, he should have been sent back down.
  16. Maybe he'll end up getting claimed by another team eventually? Perhaps just a change of scenery and a fresh start would do him good for his career, and his own personal sake. Just doesn't seem like a guy who really has a future in the Brewers organization at this point.
  17. Is it weird that it's almost four hours until game time and the usual suspects have been pretty silent on this move? Perhaps they will wait until after the game to make a roster move announcement?
  18. I'm looking forward to watching this one on TV today (took the day off from work). I will likely be going to Miller Park,Tuesday and Wednesday. Brewers, please start this series with a win; as the Giants' pitching doesn't get any easier after this (Bumgarner, Lincecum, Zito).
  19. I remember him looking pretty good last season after quite a few people said he wouldn't be able to hang with the MLB level of play. Wouldn't say he was gifted a spot at all.
  20. Do you always have to talk in absolutes like this?
  21. Frankly with how little Gomez is starting, a AAA stint wouldn't be terrible.
  22. Gallardo wasn't even supposed to see a doctor until today, so I kind of doubt they were planning for his DL stint this far ahead. I think something else is up. Still, this is a pleasant surprise to see. I hope Cain gets to start at least once. I'd like to see what he looks like out there.
  23. Thanks for the suggestion, strawboss; but I went ahead with the Tour. I had heard about the Android coming out, but the "iPhone-esque" one has an uncertain release date. Frankly, I don't need all the features of an iPhone. Really happy with the Blackberry Tour so far, as it's a huge step up from my Moto Q9C. Only minor nitpick I have is that BF.net does not display on it very well, even worse than on my Moto.
  24. This just in from McCalvy: Corey Hart has accepted an invitation to participate in the All-Star Home Run Derby. Would be something if two Brewers could win it in back-to-back years.
  25. Are you basing this on anything other than last season?
