  1. Yeah, McGehee is hitting .250 in all of 16 ABs, better ditch him, right? I can't figure out if this thread is supposed to be serious or not.
  2. I just continue to go back to all the praise McGehee's swing and approach at the plate got last season. If he keeps up the same routine at the plate, I don't see why he should suddenly have a forty point drop in his batting average.
  3. Suppan was definitely hurt last year. I doubt it was some made up conspiracy on the Brewers' part to hide the fact that he was obviously struggling. And he wasn't even the worst pitcher on the team last year.
  4. The power swing has always seemed to be mostly useless to me. So far I like the game. The graphics seem slighly sharper than last year's game, but maybe it's just me or my TV. I still kind of suck at hitting, but I think I just need more practice and to play with the sliders a bit. The fielding seems slightly different from last year's game for some reason. Haven't played RTTS yet...will probably try that tomorrow.
  5. Exactly. The more I think about this "proposal," the more infuriated I get. How could Boras even talk about this garbage idea with a straight face?
  6. We had the opposite on Monday...well, opposite in that our cars were both still in the garage. Wife woke me up at 6:30 AM to tell me the garage door wasn't working. Turned out one of the spring coils over the door was busted. One service call and about $200 later, it was fixed.
  7. Just broke down and traded in my copy of Show '09 for '10 (only 10 bucks off the sticker price, but at least it's something). Will post thoughts and comments later.
  8. This idea is so blatantly self-serving that I can't believe he bothered to put it out for public discussion.
  9. I doubt they'd give up both Ellsbury and Bucholz. I think at best you'd get Bucholz and maybe Lars Anderson (as a 1B replacement). I'm not sold on Gamel at 1B. I just don't think he's going to put up the kind of power numbers you want in a first baseman.
  10. Clearly his clubhouse canceritis caused all four of those guys to suck. This is probably what they actually think, though.
  11. I've actually liked Pierzynski ever since the White Sox' World Series run a few years back.
  12. A few off the top of my head: Craig Wilson, Ronnie Belliard, Gary Sheffield (duh), Jason Giambi, Alex Rodriguez, Aramis Ramirez, Pedro Martinez.
  13. I could see dealing Coffey if they were willing to give up a starting pitching prospect, otherwise we really have no reason to help them out.
  14. That would be fitting since the Brewers drafted him years ago.
  15. Nomar Garciaparra will announce his retirement at a Red Sox press conference this morning, tweets ESPN's Gordon Edes. WEEI's Lou Merloni (via Twitter) says Garciaparra is signing a one-day minor league contract with Boston to retire as a member of the club. Nomar, 36, finishes with a sparkling career line of .313/.361/.521 in 6,116 plate appearances. He spent the majority of his time at shortstop, though also played the infield corners later in his career. Garciaparra was a superstar with the Red Sox, winning Rookie of the Year in '97 and getting MVP votes and All-Star appearances in six different seasons.
  16. Yeah, great game tonight. Bogut was amazing, and Salmons continues to prove himself a solid pickup. Very exciting to see the Bucks playing like this.
  17. Hey, it can't hurt at this point I guess.
  18. Well, sounds like the commissioner is considering everything at this point. Selig considering radical realignment idea. When baseball commissioner Bud Selig named a 14-person "special committee for on-field matters" four months ago, he promised that all topics would be in play and "there are no sacred cows." The committee already has made good on Selig's promise by discussing a radical form of "floating" realignment in which teams would not be fixed to a division, but free to change divisions from year-to-year based on geography, payroll and their plans to contend or not. The concept gained strong support among committee members, many of whom believe there are non-economic avenues that should be explored to improve competitive balance, similar to the NFL's former use of scheduling to help parity (in which weaker teams were awarded a weaker schedule the next season).
  19. I have not either...or anything else, for that matter. Never been to Canada. Never gone hunting. Never seen Titanic (since that one was brought up before).
  20. The thing is, sure the Rays and Marlins' GMs should get credit for making chicken salad out of chicken-you-know-what. The problem is, look at their crowds. The Rays' owner just said they may be slashing payroll next season. Basically they've been able to capitalize off of being bottom feeders, and forced to trade star players for prospects. While that leads to very short runs of success, the model doesn't seem to sustainable.
  21. I didn't see the Suppan game, but supposedly his "stuff" was looking a bit better than last year. More downward motion on his pitches. Maybe working with Petersen has already helped him a bit. I'm not expecting him to do big things this year, but if he starts the year in the rotation, I don't think it's the end of the world either.
  22. Yeah, Haudricourt was just gushing about how he looked coming in to the start of spring training. Looks like he took his training and rehab very seriously in the off-season (as one would expect).
  23. Haudricourt also speculates on JSOnline that Gamel may get shut down for a few games. Probably not a bad idea, but you have to think at the rate he's going, he'll be starting the year in Nashville.
  24. Really good article related to the AL East and competitive balance: Rays owner cautious about future.
  25. Haudricourt just tweeted that Gamel did indeed leave the game due to shoulder soreness.
