  1. Buster Olney has some thoughts here.
  2. Yeah, but the difference is that those other teams are in different division (other than the Mets and Phillies, obviously). It's virtually guaranteed every year that both the Red Sox and Yankees will make the playoffs, and that is just not good for the sport as a whole. Either splitting them up or putting them in a division with other high payroll teams would lead to better competitive balance in the long run.
  3. It's up to the other guys to knock Suppan out of the rotation, ultimately. Parra and Bush especially better look good in ST.
  4. Darn, so no "Hoss" or "Little Joe" bobble head, then?
  5. I don't mind the fact that the games are on WMLW. I realize it's probably good for the Brewers' exposure in the area. I just wish there was some way for them to be simulcast in HD on FS-WI, since the games are usually simulcast on FSN anyway (at least they are on Charter where I live). At least we're at the point where there's only five games the entire year that won't be on any TV station, period. I remember as a kid you'd get maybe a couple games a week on TV.
  6. Third most tickets sold in a single day. Way to go Brewers fans!
  7. Adam McCalvy with more: http://brewersbeat.mlblogs.com/archives/2010/02/attanasio_no_deadline_for_fiel.html I think Attanasio knows some people had that impression on the Sabathia deal, so I don't think it's just idle talk. Edit: Some further comments from Attanasio, along those lines (via Witrado): He also said that when the team made its offer to CC Sabathia, they were serious about that and had an offer sheet on the table and only needed Sabathia to sign for it to happen. "It's too much time and effort if it's just a show," he said. "(Fielder's agent) Scott (Boras) is very busy and I'm very busy and Doug Melvin is maybe the busiest of all of us, so I don't think there's any show about it. "If CC signed that (contract offer), we were committed to that nine-figure proposal. It's easy for someone whose money it isn't to say (it's a show)."
  8. Just received a slew of tweets from Tom Haudricourt that say Doug Melvin and Mark Attanasio are in the process of putting together an offer for Prince Fielder. "There's no show about it", says Attanasio. Also don't have a deadline. Very interesting to hear.
  9. Heh, pretty cool.
  10. You mention the Marlins. What's frustrating there is that MLB is blowing an easy opportunity to fix the problem. They should be moving them out west and putting them in the AL West. One team in Florida is enough. That would be a simple enough fix (you could move the Pirates to the NL East to balance things out). Bingo, problem solved. Instead, MLB wants to live with their mistake, and is getting a new stadium built in Miami which may or may not fix the Marlins' problems. I can't help but think that after the novelty of the new stadium wears out, Loria will be complaining that people aren't supporting the team, when in reality it will just be him being a cheapskate. Moving the Astros to the AL West would also be an easy fix, but the Astros seem to be completely opposed to such a change, as they've had the chance in the past. Rosenthal's angle seems to be that there isn't any other way to fix baseball's financial inequities, so his proposals basically just "work with what we have now." That is fine, but it's basically just moving the pieces around instead of implementing any real good long term fix.
  11. I don't know. It just seems like McGehee didn't get much praise around here this past season, despite his tremendous offensive contributions, and playing respectable defense. I think Gamel showed he wasn't ready last season. Maybe that was partly becasue of how Macha used him, but Gamel didn't exactly bounce right back in AAA, either. If McGehee does falter, I have no doubt Gamel will get his chances again. McGehee may regress some, but I don't think he will be a Bill Hall type case (whom I think people are unfairly comparing him to). McGehee has a better swing and stance than Hall ever did. I can't help but think that if McGehee doesn't produce in the first week or two of the season, there will be plenty on this forum jumping on him for "being overweight," or "being a one year wonder." I don't think that's necessarily fair.
  12. I actually like his middle idea a lot. Playing the Red Sox more often would be a boon to the AL Central teams, and the Tigers have the pay roll to compete in the AL East. I really don't care for his last idea. The moves seem somewhat arbitrary, and I think if the A's do relocate, it will be somewhere on the West Coast (like San Jose or Portland). Anything to eliminate having a single six team division is a good thing, in my mind.
  13. Definitely a steal of a signing. I would have loved to see him back with the Crew for that money, but honestly we didn't have much room for him. He wasn't going to come back to ride the bench. He'll get more playing time in St. Louis.
  14. To be fair, Baseball Tonight does talk about teams other than the Yankees/Red Sox. Last night I saw them talking about the Nationals' season outlook in 2010. So they do talk about the small markets on that show. But if you're watching Sportscenter expecting to see Brewers or Bucks highlights, good luck.
  15. There again is that underlying resentment that seems to permeate around here regarding Casey McGehee. It's like some people can't stand that he "took Gamel's job."
  16. This came up in another thread. My opinion is that he doesn't really look much bigger than he did last season.
  17. Yeah, I don't think he really looks that much heavier than last year, personally. Anyway, it was probably pretty hard to work out for a while after having knee surgery, so if he did put on some extra weight, that would explain it.
  18. I agree. I just read his posting on Carlos Gomez and it was pretty decent. Maybe someone lit a fire under his butt to do his job a little more thoroughly. I'll certainly take this over some of his work from last season.
  19. Monday: How I Met Your Mother, Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men (I hate that "Accidentally on Purpose" show, though). Tuesday: The Office (TBS) Wednesday: Monster Quest (when it's on and not a re-run), The Middle, Modern Family (just getting into that show), South Park Thursday: Parks & Rec, The Office, 30 Rock. I'm not really on the Community bandwagon yet. Usually go to Dmitri and Sarah Silverman afterwards. Friday: Nothing. Used to watch Smackdown, but am not really into wrestling anymore. Saturday: Usually out of the house. Sunday: Family Guy, American Dad, Cleveland Show. I can barely tolerate the Simpsons anymore, sadly. I also watch that show they have on before Simpsons now with the title that eludes me at the moment. I also have been getting into Pawn Stars a bit lately, whenever that's on. Usually catch Adult Swim or The Daily Show on the bedroom TV.
  20. At least the Bucks could actually be in contention for a playoff spot during those games this season, so it doesn't bother be quite as much. They really should go to some sort of system of airing Brewers games on WMLW or some other alternate channel when there's a conflict, though.
  21. The only bad thing will be watching the WMLW games, which always seem to have a substandard picture, even for standard definition television.
  22. The problem with this line of thinking is that we have no way of knowing if those two guys are even available. I fear that some fans are getting their expectations for a Fielder trade a bit too high.
  23. Nice to see there's only a handful of games this season that won't be on TV at all. Also nice to have all of the FSN games in HD this season. I know a lot of people were upset last season when FSN sort of backed off on their promise of all the games in HD. At least they made good on it this season.
  24. I don't see how criticizing someone's choice of on-air attire constitutes sexual harassment.
  25. Trenni was on the D-List yesterday talking about this very issue. She made the comment that she's sure Storm probably has some sort of wardrobe person, and they should probably be smarter how they dress her at this point. I didn't see the outfit in question. A two week suspension for something like this is pretty silly, especially since he apparently already apologized to Storm about it.
