  1. From Rotoworld.com: Although he wasn't willing to talk to teams other than the Yankees in the offseason, Bernie Williams isn't ready to call it a career. "I?m trying to stay in shape, working hard and we?ll see what happens in the future," Williams told WNBC yesterday. "I don?t think you?ve seen the last of me yet." If the Yankees came calling, Williams would likely sign on immediately. He's given no indication that he'd join another team.
  2. I kind of went through the same thing recently. I run a small business and recently hired on a manager for the first time. I don't know if this will be helpful to you, but I basically typed out a training guide for him, with spaces for him to fill in info as we went through the different aspects of the business. It was nice because it gave me an outline of what to talk about, and I think having a person write things down helps them remember it more.
  3. Anyone ever had the Berry-Honey Weiss mix that Leinie's promotes at some places? Sounds kind of weird to me.
  4. I never got into Soundgarden that much...just kind of found some of their songs annoying. I like the Pumpkins much better...though they got overplayed on the radio quite a bit during that era as well.
  5. I don't think he'd be enough of an upgrade. He's a nice player, but I'm personally hoping that if the Brewers add another bat, it's someone with a little bit better average, or more power to help down the stretch (like a corner outfielder or something).
  6. Hey, I paid absolutely no attention to the game last night, and they won. Guess I should do that more, at least for a while.
  7. Not interested in Carl Crawford. We don't need him. Pass.
  8. If they don't I still think that '08 is the year, but based on their hot start this is a team that is proving that they might have just been getting lucky for a little over a month. NO! I haven't heard any of the "NEXT YEAR IS THE REAL YEAR" talk in a long time, and I don't wanna start now. This team has talent. They just need to start playing like it, or I expect to see Yost fired after this season. He needs to start managing based on what guys can be expected to do, and not what he hopes they will do. Yes, I know he can't pitch or hit for the players (and I do think last night's loss falls on Cordero), but at some point a manager has to find a way to get wins when needed, and he's accountable for that right now. That said, the players seem to be playing down to the level of lesser teams, and that is just sickening. It's something we saw way too often last year, and it's time for it to stop. I also hope Melvin is working the phone, and formulating some trades, because this team needs another bat, badly. Yes, I know there aren't many open spots on the team, and all that, but the current lineup isn't cutting it. We need someone who is going to bat .300 consistently, and do what it takes to drive in some base runners, already. I'm mainly mad because so many people were saying that April was a fluke for the Brewers, and they've been proving those people completely fight for the last five or six weeks now. Enough is enough. I'm sick of being seen as the laughing stock of baseball.
  9. Last night was like a huge kick in the groin. I went to bed figuring the Brewers had it in the bag, since Cordero was coming on, and proceeded to watch things completely fall apart while lying in bed. Just awful. I don't know what is with this team. It's like they don't feel like being in first place anymore, but they still hold a five game lead over the Cubs. It's totally ridiculous.
  10. If Braun was a Yankee, ESPN would be proclaiming him the second coming of Dimaggio already (or is that third, behind Jeter?). It's just because he's a Brewer and they're supposed to just be happy to score against the Cubs every once in a while. I don't get why baseball players are expected to be humble all the time, but everyone loves to see a basketball or football star showboat. It's a stupid double standard. No, I don't want to see guys shouting and acting like idiots on the field, but I don't think a two second stare at a long ball should be enough to offend a pitcher making hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars a year.
  11. I would not trade Braun at all. I firmly believe he's going to be an offensive monster, and I think he's going to be fine as the Brewers' 3B. I am not that high on Cabrera as some people. Pass.
  12. Sounds good. I tried making beer margaritas a while ago, but they didn't turn out that great. I bet these would be nice, though.
  13. I would have no problem trading Inman if the Crew got something valuable in return. A team can't hold onto all of its chips forever...at some point, some need to be cashed in for things that can help us win now.
  14. I think trying to pigeonhole Bush as an "X innings" guy is silly, but I do think he should be kept on a short leash. It seems like it becomes obvious very quickly when his tank runs dry, and last night was no exception. Granted, the relievers failed last night, but that doesn't excuse leaving him in when he clearly was done.
  15. He used to be intimidating, but he's clearly lost it if he was just released. The Brewers wouldn't have any use for him, either.
  16. If Yost just sticks to Jenkins vs righties and Mench vs lefties, then I'm perfectly happy at this point.
  17. Felt very satisfying to see the Crew get the series win today, especially against a team they have historically played poorly against (at least in recent years, IIRC). My only small gripe is that I hope the team gets better at manufacturing runs, sooner than later. Can't rely on the long ball so much. The pitching really was solid today. It's nice to see Sheets pitching so well lately.
  18. A five game losing streak is enough. Time to snap this funk and play like a first place team. I'm sick of teams that are struggling suddenly finding their mojo against the Brewers.
  19. The pitching staff, especially the rotation, needs to start stepping up more. These big innings lately are just unacceptable at this point. I really hope Melvin is keeping an eye on things. A trade or callup should be in order really soon if this team wants to stay in first place.
  20. It's nice to still be in first and have a 5.0 game lead on the Cubs, but it's time to stop the bleeding. Hopefully Suppan goes out this afternoon and earns his big paycheck and puts up 6 or 7 strong innings, and lets Turnbow and Cordero play mop up.
  21. Well, Hall has been slumping, but I'd hate to give up on him at this point. I do like Crawford, but I really doubt Tampa Bay is looking to trade him. (OK, he's not really been slumping...maybe underperforming a bit, though).
  22. Exactly. That's why I think a Gwynn/Mench type package would be more feasible, not that I necessarily want to part with Gwynn right now. I just think he'd get us something more useful, than a package centered around Mench could.
  23. On the D-List on the radio today, they were saying Braun is expected to start at 3B tonight. Take that FWIW.
  24. I'm not necessarily in favor of trading him, but I think we could get something decent for Tony Gwynn right now. Giving him up wouldn't sacrifice a lot of depth either, since we have a ton of OFs, and Counsell and Graffy. Maybe a package of Gwynn and Mench could net the Brewers a solid reliever.
