  1. Yep. This past offseason, a lot of jokes were made about how bad the Astros are, & what a mess they are & 'good thing we're not run like the Astros' when the rebuild-or-not-rebuild discussions came up. Taking a look at the standings... not so funny now. Well, to be fair, this team has been much worse than expected. I think most of the "experts" before the season had this being pegged as at least a 75-ish win team. The pitching was much worse than expected at the start of the year, and injuries have really taken their toll. I'm not saying that absolved Melvin and Co. of blame, but I don't think anyone thought this franchise with be flirting with 100 losses this year.
  2. Newscaster grammar is beyond horrible these days. They've dumbed down the English language to the point of absurdity. One example that always gets me is referring to a male subject as "the guy".
  3. I don't see why they would want to at this point. There really isn't any upside to Hart being a Brewer in 2014.
  4. I think those of us are saying that the Brewers in _recent_ history have been a much better franchise than the Pirates. That's an indisputable fact. How many young Pirates fans are really enriched by those multiple championships? Do they have great memories of the "We Are Family" era? Does their recent attendance at PNC Park reflect that rich heritage? It's like how I roll my eyes whenever the Brewers honor the '82 team. I was two years old that year, so I'm not really enriched by the memory of that team.
  5. That's assuming they have insurance on his contract though.
  6. I still go to the occasional game, but don't seek out additional tickets or game opportunities. There's still fun times to be had at Miller Park, but the product on the field right now isn't part of that.
  7. Yeah, I guess people have forgotten that the Pirates have been a complete bottom barrel MLB team for the past two decades. No winning seasons since 1992...suddenly they're a "powerhouse". I get they're playing great baseball right now, but some perspective is in order.
  8. This is a great point that I just mentioned on the official BF.net Twitter feed thanks to you. It's not like Yuni's salary justifies keeping him around in lieu of much better performing options at 1B.
  9. Did everyone forget about this one already? K-Rod accepts Brewers' offer of abitration: http://www.jsonline.com/sports/brewers/heady-heady-heady-0l3brsn-135223778.html
  10. Sure they can. Teams can offer a departing free agent player arbitration, and have been able to for a long time. That is unless the rules have changed and I completely missed something.
  11. I don't see how they can possibly offer him arbitration. It would be insane given his recent health history.
  12. Dissension among the Yankees. Gotta love it.
  13. I'm not sure if I like this move or not. Part of me is excited to be able to see the guy pitch on TV, but the other part of me thinks maybe he should have stayed down in AAA to develop further.
  14. That reminds me of how it was trendy to use the word "flat" instead of "apartment" a few years ago.
  15. Yeah, it's good to at least get some verbal confirmation of what we've been suspecting.
  16. It sounds like Lee was smart with his money, which is good to hear. My guess is he figured coming back for another season for a low salary wasn't worth it at this point. Good for him. He was a fun player to watch for the season and a half he was here in Milwaukee.
  17. I think you need to look at Miguel Cabrera's age and contract before saying this.
  18. I never got the angst over re-signing K-Rod. It turns out it was a smart move by Melvin and will look even better if he's flipped for a nice prospect or something.
  19. Yeah...it sounds like the old "Let's package Kieschnick, Ginter, Obermueller, Quevedo, etc. for something good", type threads that used to pop up around here all the time.
  20. Well at the end of the day it doesn't matter what WE think and it doesn't matter what DM thinks. It's all in Mark A.'s hands. That's the thing. I could easily see the Brewers making a token trade, dealing someone like Ramirez, but standing pat otherwise with the thought process of "Well, we just need to add one or two more pieces and hope for better performance from our starting rotation and less injuries to contend". Hopefully Melvin is ready to tell Attanasio "enough, this team needs to get younger if you ever want any actual shot at the World Series", but I don't see any real evidence of it. Time will tell.
  21. I'm trying to think of the last really genuinely hated heel in WWE, and I'm coming up short. (And that's assuming you're not counting guys who get "X-Pac heat"). I think Randy Orton maybe came close during his big heel run. That's about it.
  22. My theory is that he's an extremely funny and likeable guy and the team just can't stand to not have him around.
  23. Hard to picture RVD as a heel, especially when the fans want to like him so much. Even in his ECW days when he was initially a heel, he was more of a face (if that makes sense). Then there was the Alliance thing where he was technically a heel but the fans were so into him he quickly became a face.
  24. He's put up a 1.018 OPS over the past month. I think ragging on him for an arbitrary stat like RBIs is kind of petty.
