  1. His track record is rather mixed from what I recall.
  2. The downside of Andrus is that he's only under contract for two more seasons (at least according to baseball-reference.com).
  3. @BrewerNation has some interesting info here regarding a potential deal with Texas: http://brewernation.mlblogs.com/2012/07/26/heres-what-i-know-so-far/
  4. I agree that Bianchi should have received more of a chance. Izturis brings nothing to the table and should have been DFAed instead.
  5. I really don't get what is so horrible about trying Taylor Green at 3B for the rest of the season. If it ends up being that he can't handle the position, so what? The team is in the tank, so the plan should be to try and see what younger guys can stick for next season.
  6. If K-Rod can turn it around enough in the next few weeks, I could see him being a waiver deadline trade in August.
  7. Well, that's the way they should do it. Start asking high and then come down a bit if needed. Greinke is clearly the biggest fish on the trade market, so Melvin should be asking for a lot in return.
  8. The bullpen has been a bit overdue for a shakeup, hasn't it? Good to see Henderson get a shot though.
  9. This thread makes me sad.
  10. Augie is like listening to your drunk uncle talk about the game while you're hanging out at the local bowling alley's bar.
  11. There's a big difference on something being reported as possibility, and something being a done deal. Dempster "was a Brave" yesterday, but now he's not (I would know, I made the mistake of starting that thread). That was a lot closer to happening than "Johnson is a Ranger" right now.
  12. You still haven't said where you saw this "reported."
  13. Yeah, very premature to say a Johnson trade to Rangers is "all but done."
  14. Yeah, as I said elsewhere, the track record for starting pitchers getting $100 million+ contracts is pretty bad. Sabathia is basically the only one that has worked out so far for him team.
  15. Sounds like this deal is dead now, with the Braves moving on from Dempster because of the delay. I really don't get why Dempster wouldn't accept the trade to a contender. Supposedly he'd rather go to a west coast team like the Dodgers, but he only would have been in Atlanta for 2-3 months at this point. Apparently he was angry about finding out about the trade via the media.
  16. Remember when people used to say that Doug Melvin only trades with certain teams?
  17. Also, if you look at the history of starting pitchers signing $100 million+ contracts, it's not really good at all.
  18. Melvin really should be able to get a great return for Greinke now. No reason to "settle" for just an OK return.
  19. This ironically probably means less playing time for Luis Cruz (yes, that Luis Cruz).
  20. Honestly, why would the Marlins do that deal though?
  21. They can do the buyout on the option and then re-negotiate a lower deal if they want to bring Wolf back, probably.
  22. The trades so far show that teams are giving up pretty good prospect value for rentals, so I think we'll do OK as long as Greinke has a semi-decent outing tonight. Rosenthal had a commment today that the Nationals are also interested. Sounds like half the league may be scouting him tonight.
  23. You mean his value has gone from a bag of balls to just the bag? Yeah, and the bag has holes in it.
  24. Exactly. We saw how things played out with Sabathia and Fielder. Clinging to naive hope at this point is foolish.
  25. Sounds like it's a done deal now, per sources on Twitter.
