  1. That is completely and utterly false. I'd like you to find ONE person on this site that was calling for Turnbow to come in for the ninth. Ditto Dreams.
  2. Is Dusty Baker a good manager? No, he's an idiot, but even Dusty Baker, brings in a top reliever in a tie ball game at home in the 9th inning. When we just played the Reds, who did Dusty bring into the 9th inning with the game tied? Cordero, his best reliever. He didn't put in the 11th or 12th man on his pitching staff, who hadn't seen action in a week. I'm not saying Yost should have put in Gagne, he should have put in Riske, who ended up warming up anyway. So yes, Brewer fans have every right to complain about Yost costing them this ball game by his continued bad bullpen management.
  3. Can we start a pool on when Gagne' hits the DL? I'll take July 1st.
  4. They pinch hit Counrsel for Stetter IIRC. I do think they should have gone with someone else, other than Gagne 4 days in a row and the weather. I swear someone in the brewers organization was saying how they thought they needed to be careful with Gagne and not use him too many days in a row, because of injury and or ineffectiveness. Apparently Ned didn't get that memo.
  5. Yeah, here's the story, from the AP. "It's just sore," Sheets said, acknowledging he was a little worried. "It's really sore. It's kind of a crampiness in there." Sheets (3-0) felt soreness in his right triceps last Monday, the day after his 5-3 win over the Mets and Johan Santana. The hard-throwing right-hander with a history of injuries retired 18 in a row in that one. The soreness didn't go away all week. The arm was still bothering him Friday night, though no one could tell by the results. Sheets allowed only a pair of singles in five innings, looking very comfortable in a hitter-friendly ballpark where he has never lost http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=280418117
  6. I thought I read on the story on ESPN that the tricep has been bothering him since his last start in NY. If that's the case I would bet Ben's headed for the DL.
  7. Little bit off target, but I think that the one thing that having Kendall bat 9th has shown me, is that batting order is irrelevant, as long as you don't do something completely stupid, like bat the pitcher leadoff. Anyone who honestly thinks that it makes a whit of difference batting prince 3rd and Braun 4th or vice versa just doesn't get it IMHO.
  8. "Reds 2008- Winning in spite of Dusty"
  9. Um, I think the brewers would argue that the roof is probably also there to help with attendance and fan enjoyment and that most fans probably liked the fact today that it was 10 degrees warmer inside the stadium with the roof closed. Or was this post supposed to be in blue? The only problem with MP is not that the roof is closed too often, the problem is there isn't enough air circulation in the warm summer months. It's a sauna in there in July and August.
  10. Actually, runs are a huge part of most sabermetric/Bill James stats, since runs are what wins games. A lot of statistical analysis is based on what's the best way to score runs. That's why a lot of stat heads like Weeks, he gets on base, which leads to scoring runs.
  11. Bill James in his historical abstract has Jim Gantner as the 63rd best secondbaseman of all time, better than Harold Reynolds, Gantner was a dang fine secondbaseman especially with the glove, and worthy of being in the top 10 on his accomplishments, not just because he played a ton of games for the brewers.
  12. That was my favorite part about it. Bunt him dusty bunt him!
  13. I read tht, but I assumed it was an April fools story, designed to torment cubs fans.
  14. Please put my name in the hat too. Thanks.
  15. You know what would put the brewers on the map? Winning a playoff series or the World Series. I really don't care one iota about any brewer players being in a video game commerical or on a soap opera or any garbage like that. I want to see some October baseball. That's really all I care about. The White Sox won the WS a few years ago. I don't recall them having any legends on their team, unless you count Jermaine Dye as a legend.
  16. I hope that is exactly what that means.
  17. His first year up I thought he also had a nagging injury that reduced his playing time early in the season.
  18. How is that different than any of his other off seasons?
  19. Why do you think Hardy will be any healthier this year than any previous year in his career? I hope you are right, but I'm not taking that as a given. If the brewers are going to win, it's going to be an improvement in the defense. The offense and pitching are just fine, it's all about the defense, so I hope there are multiple trickle downs defensively.
  20. We did throw him a little extra and he's still not happy. My question is, does Boras get 5%(or whatever the % is) of Prince's salary, even though he didn't do anything, and couldn't do anything to increase Prince's pay? If that is the case, why do ballplayers sign with agents before they are eligible for arbitration? Sounds like a waste to me.
  21. That is a whole lot of saves. I doubt that anybody other than Gagne gets more than 2 saves unless Gagne gets injured at some point. I actually think there will be a lot of guys getting saves besides Gagne. I believe I heard Doug M. state that they wanted guys with closer experience like Torres, b/c they didn't want to overwork Gagne. I think he even mentioned that Gagne would not go back to back saves, or at least would not be like Co-co in going for 3-4 straight save opportunities. I don't think Mota or Turnbow will get any saves, but I would bet Torres and Riske get a few. Also, if any GM gives Gagne a deal like Coco got, 4 years, that GM should be burned at the stake by their fan base. Given his injury history, 2 years max for the rest of Gagne's career. I don't care what he does this year.
  22. In 2006 the Astros went 82-80 and finished 1.5 games behind the cards, and the Cards then went on to win the WS. Perhaps had the Astro gotten a little more production out of their second baseman, they would have made up those 2 games. So I would say that Biggio did cost them a lot in the last two years. It's been generally my experience and everything i've read agrees that fans generallydo not come to watch individual players, they come out to watch winning baseball. We all love Robin Yount, but he played to quite a few empty seats his last few years in Milwaukee, even when he was on the brink of some big milestone.
  23. Monkeyman pretty much pretty much nailed it, but I would add that on top of the poor offense, Biggio was really bad defensively too. So that's kind of how he hurt his team the last two years.
