  1. I started a thread on his defense June 1st when he had 9 errors. I can bump it if you would like to add something. I imagine it's got to be on the 5th or 6th page now.
  2. A nugget of good news going forward I heard from ESPN. The Brewers play only 11 more games all season against teams that currently rank among the top 10 in OPS.
  3. Rickie's got 8 HR. Have they all been opposite field jobs? He missed a lot of time last year, I think I'd give him more than 2 months before I wrote him off.
  4. Yount came up when he was 18. I'd be much more understanding if an 18 year old made a ton of errors. Escobar is 23. He should be a lot more seasoned, plus he has had 2 cups of coffee in the majors, so the jitters should have been mitigated somewhat. I don't think I claimed errors are a great way to measure defense, but I thought the more advanced metrics need a full season or two to be conclusive. I would agree that his range doesn't seem to be spectacular yet. If he was getting to a million balls and making specatcular plays I'd cut him some slack on the errors. I haven't seen that yet. The way he was sold to me was an offensive downgrade from Hardy, but a defensive upgrade. So far he appears to be a downgrade on both offense and defense.
  5. Baseball prospectus said he was the best defensive shortstop in the minors. 9 errors and that doesn't count the play yesterday where he bobbled what should have been a sure double play ball and was only able to get the force at second. I didn't think he would hit right away, and he hasn't, but I thought I would at least see decent defense out of him. We don't have the pitching staff to put another butcher in the field.
  6. After the last two games I don't see how anyone can call for his relase. He might be bad, but we don't appear to have anyone better than him. Estrada is not the answer.
  7. That's interesting that Wolf is supposedly having such a hard time with Jon. Bill Schroeder is really talking Jon up about how low he gets in his squat and how he sets such a nice low target and that pitchers should like throwing to that low target. Of course Bill was also saying that it's a good thing that Wolf was calling all these conferences b/c Wolf didn't want to throw a pitch unless he and JL were on the same page. I guess that is just the Brewer spin machine.
  8. Did the crowd boo Suppan or were they chanting Souuuup? I couldn't tell.
  9. The classic battle of the resistable force vs. the movable object.
  10. What is the 12 ERA an indication of? The truth is, if his name was Joe Schmo or Derrick Turnbow, Todd Coffey would be the closer right now. The only other closer in the NL who is pitching as bad as he is and still has a job is Chad Qualls, and Qualls only still has his job because every other pitcher in the D-backs bullpen is pitching worse than he is. The Brewers don't have that problem.
  11. Thanks. Didn't catch the game today so I didn't hear that. That's still kind of odd that Trevor would tell TH that the day before, and then volunteer to mop up the 20-0. Maybe he was pulling TH's leg.
  12. So I read in the JS this morning that Hoffman has not pitched in a game in 6 days. So the TH rightfully asks him if he's getting rusty and needs to get into a game. And Hoffman says no, he's not 28, he wants to save his bullets, he doesn't know when he might need to go out there 3-4 games in a row and he did warm up one of those 6 days so he doesn't need a courtesy inning to keep himself sharp. So what does Macha do today when the brewers are up 20-0, brings in Hoffman. So now I'm wondering, is everything Hoffman said to TH just some lines Trevor was feeding TH, or does Macha just ignore or is ignorant about Trevor's wishes? I also thought it was odd that he brought in Hoffman considering that Parra was already in the game and hit for himself, but only pitched 1 inning. I would think you would want to keep Parra stretched out a little bit since he either our long man or our 7th starter. Here is the link to the article. The part about Hoffman is in the second note. http://www.jsonline.com/sports/brewers/91778739.html
  13. Got this off the AP wire. Hoffman's last four blown saves have all come against the Cardinals. Perhaps the cards have spotted something on Trevor that no one else has. Or it's just a fluke. Not going to worry about it until he blows one against somebody else, or we play the cardinals again.
  14. Is Gerut's contract guranteed? Dukes is cheaper and younger. If Edmonds is our 5th OF, we don't need 3 guys that can play CF. We need another right handed bat off the bench. Frankly I'd be all for picking him up, but I doubt Doug will.
  15. I don't like the move, but I'll see what else Doug has going before I get too worked up. Do you know what we need to acquire now? Those Japanese groundkeepers from Major League so they can curve Miller Park's IF so all of Gomez's bunt attempts go fair. If I see some of those dudes working at MP this winter then I know Doug's got a good plan.
  16. Do we not have anyone else on the roster right now who could use a start? Villy just isn't starters material, so I'd rather use that outing to get a youngster some development time. Or do we just not have anybody like that? I'll admit I haven't been paying the closest attention the last month.
  17. Put down one blogger who doesn't think Peterson is going to solve our pitching problems. http://bases.nbcsports.com/2009/09/the-brewers-may-hire-rick-peterson-as-their-next-pitching-coach.html.php I do like the Suppanitis line.
  18. Yeah, I was born after JFK and RFK were killed, so I guess I don't get the whole American royalty thing. But then I don't get why anyone cares about Michael Jackson's death either.
  19. Does anyone else think this coverage is just a little overblown? We've had presidents die that haven't gotten this kind of coverage. I don't get it.
  20. All that guy thinks about is his next contract. $154M in career earnings and he has to bring up his next contract in August.
  21. Selig will start to look a lot better to many Milwaukeeans once the Bucks leave town. Then people will really know what Bud did for this town. I don't begrudge Yount his opinion. I don't think he said anything most is not all brewer's fans felt at some point.
  22. Melvin's going to pick up Dana Eveland who was just DFA'd.
  23. I don't understand why he pinch hit for Gamel in the 9th. Can anyone explain why you would rather have the RH batter Casey facing the righthanded closer vs. the lefty hitting Gamel vs. the righthanded closer. Rodriguez has a reverse platoon split this year but over his career lefties have hit him better, although he's been pretty good against both obviously.
  24. So all the pirates now need to do is to trade or DFA Moss and they will have completely turned over their entire OF they had to start the year. I have to think that would be a first, although I could be wrong.
  25. I don't get what the pirates are doing. They are giving the yankees cash to cover Hinske's salary, so it's not like it's a salry dump and the guys they are getting back are not prospects. Why not just keep Hinske and hope somebody gets desperate and offers you something valuable for him. More dumb moves by the pirates.
