  1. Played my first nine this week (albeit at Glenway in Madison, which is not exactly Augusta National). I also saw a TaylorMade Burner driver on sale at Dick's. Thing felt as light as a feather. Anybody play one of those?
  2. Yeah, I am just going to try to think about Gallardo going pitch for pitch w/Santana.
  3. I dunno. The bat went pretty much through the hitting zone. Could have gone either way.
  4. What a sad, sad trio of AB's in the top of the 8th. I know Putz was dealing, but...
  5. And then you have him dropping a routine throw at first! It's what is so maddening about Rickie. (Overall trend looks promising, though.) Edit: Well, ok, maybe not that promising. He has exactly one walk so far. (Even Duffy has more.)
  6. Coffey was just nasty. They are still picking up the bat splinters from the those two AB's.....
  7. I listened to a big chunk of the game while I was driving back to Madison yesterday from Oshkosh. IIRC, Bradley came in and basically looked at three strikes; it was a pretty miserable at-bat. The broadcast also featured Ron Santo calling Fukudome's 3-run homer a "grand slam!" Poor guy is really hard to listen to.
  8. But he's not just laying off that pitch, he's going with it and crushing it. All 3 of his HRs are on that pitch. Wasn't at least one up and away? (I seem to recall that, but I'm not sure.)
  9. I am pretty much addicted to MLB Tonight (especially when FSN inflicts the Bucks on me). They provide a ton of live look-in coverage throughout both leagues. Edit: I take it all back, every word. They just showed Nelson Cruz homering for the Rangers (a grand-slam, no less).
  10. Yeah, it's reliable -- to the extent that it can be, given that he doesn't actually examine guys, etc. He typically does an excellent job of cutting through the team- and player-generated spin related to injuries.
  11. Excellent (if ultimately very frightening!) footwork here, TLB.
  12. The karma implications for stealing a grill on Opening Day have to be enormous, no?
  13. If you want to feel good about Yo's ERA, check out Wang's (north of 28 after two starts).
  14. I hope that's all it was, and that he can return to semi-respectability ASAP.
  15. I think Adenhart qualifies as the third in this old urban legend, I believe there is like a 5 day window or something like that. Yeah, what was I thinking? That's three already.
  16. I see what you're saying, and I don't want to write him off completely after a bad week. But it seems as though he's been struggling to hit a line drive to the outfield since about the All Star break last year.
  17. Wow, if they come in three's, who is going to the third baseball death today?
  18. I mentioned in another thread that Kendall is 59 for his last 282 (.209), dating back to last year. His current OPS+ is -68. (I didn't realize that you could even have a negative number.) I know he's a defensive upgrade over Rivera, but what is the net loss of runs going to be over the course of the season with him in the lineup day after day?
  19. I was really expecting ESPN to be blacked out last night.
  20. It's weirdly comforting that Rickie wasn't even close to being the biggest issue over the first week. He's been fine, and I hope it continues. The pitching has been about what I expected -- spotty. Offensively, I feel as though I'm just seeing a succession of so-so at-bats. I totally agree with AJAY's post above about Corey; he looks horrible on that slider away, as does Braun. My fear is that teams are going to figure that out and just pound them there. They are both so impatient that it might be effective. As for Kendall, he is 59 for his last 282 (a lusty .209 clip) as a Brewer, dating back to last season. Of those 59 hits, I am willing to bet that at least 50 were 13-hop, seeing-eye grounders.
  21. I know -- he never had any power, and now there no OBP, either. I'm not exactly sure what's left (hitting-wise).
