  1. Is there an adamant pro-Morgan faction out there someplace? I keep wondering why ESPN sticks with him, when he seems to be so universally disliked. I get the impression that he doesn't like having Phillips in the booth with him, which only makes me like Phillips more.
  2. .650 winning pct. on the road isn't going to last through Oct.
  3. Was it Polanco that one year?
  4. Some water stuff, but nothing too hard core. My kids are 4 and 8, and they demand beach access. I am not sure if we would go that far north; my wife really hates the long drive from Madison (which we've done before up to Vilas County).
  5. (I wasn't sure if this belonged in "Trading Post" or not; feel free to move.) Much to my dismay, my family's stand-by summer cabin rental (in Cedar Grove, right on Lake Michigan) apparently is falling through at the last minute, and I'm looking for something new and different. I guess we're looking for a house/cabin for about a week, preferably at the end of June (but not necessarily so), in the Sheboygan County area -- although we'd be open to something on a smaller lake in central/northern Wisc. Any ideas for web sites, etc., where people post these rentals? I have found some, but none look really extensive. Any ideas would help.
  6. Enough with the constant Richard Dawkins references on these boards! It's like every day: Richard Dawkins this, Richard Dawkins that....
  7. There seems to be a rash of these misleading thread titles lately -- Jim Powell arrested, etc.
  8. Wow, he is bulked up. I guess he thought he wasn't hitting the ball long enough...
  9. This unfortunate task is going to fall to me very shortly. (My dad is about to lose his battle with lung cancer.) I haven't done it before, and I'm wondering if anyone has any tips -- what to do, what not to do, etc. -- based on what you've done yourself, or what you've witnessed.
  10. Rick Wise pitched a no-hitter and hit two homers.
  11. I am just baffled. Tipping pitches to opponents? I am guessing that there has to be some video out there, somewhere. The Selena Roberts interview described how he did it, and I can't imagine that it would be too difficult to find some video of him doing it. You have to get suspended for this, no? It clearly impacts the integrity of the game.
  12. This has to be going through his mind, no? I know I'd revert, if the new stance = a month of scuffling right off the bat.
  13. 63 players have caught in MLB this year. (This includes guys with less than 10 AB's, a couple of whom apparently played a game and went 0-for-3.) Kendall's ranks: 51st in OBP 56th in SLG 57th in OPS I might add, just as a point of reference, that his .402 OPS is just a shade better than that of Dave Bush -- the third-best hitting pitcher on the team. I wouldn't throw him on the scrap heap based on those rankings at this point in the season; it's not the biggest sample in the world. But he's basically turning into an automatic out (via grounder to the left side).
  14. Even without a deal, you can get on at the Bull for a nice price. I played twilight there, with a cart, etc., for less than $50. And it was worth every penny -- a really nice course. I have a former student who works at Whistling, and he got me onto the Straits course -- totally mind-blowing. (Even with all of the lost balls.) I spend a week in Cedar Grove/Oostburg every summer, and I'm hoping to get back this year to try the Irish. Re: drivers, I found a used TaylorMade Burner for $50. It's HT (I think the loft is 12.5), which I think will help with control; it almost will play like a 3-wood, which I should be hitting off tee anyway.
  15. I was thinking about this yesterday when he smoked that double to left field. It reminded me of that absolute rocket of a HR he hit last year to LF in Shea. Don't get me wrong -- it's not that I somehow dislike hard-hit balls. But part of me wishes that Rickie didn't try to crush everything. I remember one of our BF.net AZ contingent commenting last year that he was hitting some bombs in BP at Chase Field. I'd much prefer seeing him try to drive the ball into the gap in right-center. It's almost as if he wants to follow the Soriano model of being a leadoff hitter?
  16. I have a good friend who lives in Vienna, in northern VA. He's a baseball fan, and he was ecstatic when the Expos moved -- it meant that he wouldn't have to handle the ordeal of getting back and forth to Camden Yards to see MLB games. I think there are a lot of people like him, especially in northern VA, which is really growing in terms of overall population. The problem is the franchise itself, which is not just dreadful -- it's bordering on downright embarrassing. As long as they stink, people are going to go to Wolf Trap or whatever instead of the ballpark. (I don't think the average DC-area fan experiences blind geographic loyalty.)
  17. That seems to be the company line -- that it's a wash. For it to change, I think Kendall is going to have to go so sub-Mendoza that Macha will be shamed into altering his role. That would mean, I don't know, .150 at the end of this month? If it's .220, I think we're just going to hear about how well he "handles our pitchers" as he gets trotted out there 4 games out of every 5.
  18. This team isn't the Nationals; it's a lot better than the 3-8 record suggests. But I'm not seeing a lot to suggest that they're going to be a legit contender for the WC, either. I think most of us were expecting a record slightly over .500, and I think that's still possible, given that there are still 150-some games remaining. Anything more than that would seriously surprise me, from what I've seen so far.
  19. I'd say Rivera and Kendall are pretty even. Both have 3 hits so far. (Oh, wait. Kendall has 28 AB's, and Rivera has 7.)
  20. My strategy for buying clubs generally is "get what was cool last year on sale" -- thus my interest in this driver, which was like $130 (down from $300+). What would you recommend?
  21. The run was actually earned, not that I think that makes you feel any better! The error didn't ultimately lead to the run so the official scorer called it earned. Officially, sure, I understand the logic. Unofficially, though, you could tell that the error messed up the inning for Villy and that his focus wobbled. Water under the bridge at this point, though....
  22. Figgy actually pitched well against the Brewers last year: in 3 games, 9 IP, 2 ER, 10 K's.
