  1. I guess I don't begrudge people for diligently tracking down foul balls, etc. But, as has been mentioned previously, there have to be some boundaries. I just can't imagine saying to myself, "I have 392 of these balls in my basement, but I'm going to muscle out of the way a 10-year who probably would treasure this object for the rest of his childhood."
  2. I was at the game on Sat. night, and I reflexively screamed when he laid down that bunt. It did make me wonder about how he's swinging the bat.
  3. I think this has flared up throughout his (still brief) career. To me, he always has seemed a little too amped in those situations -- visibly so. You wonder if other teams see it on tape and pitch him accordingly.
  4. Boy, I am going to light up that Final Vote for the Muscle....
  5. I really like the Meeks pick in the second round. The guy can flat-out score.
  6. I don't doubt that Sosa used, but I'm not a huge fan of this kind of reporting: "The lawyers who had knowledge of Sosa's inclusion on the 2003 list did not know the substance for which Sosa tested positive. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they did not want to be identified as discussing material that is sealed by a court order."
  7. I have to agree. IIRC, poor "body language" was invoked when Burnitz and the Brewers parted ways. (What was it? Ned didn't like his body language after he K'd? Something like that.) It seems to be a bizarre criteria for judging a player.
  8. Typically, I don't watch a lot of hockey, but that might change after watching the NCAA playoffs (incredible UNH comeback in the regionals, unbelievable BU finish to beat Miami in the Frozen Four) and the Stanley Cup. I was literally out of my seat and screaming at the TV for the end of the Pens/Wings game last night, and I really didn't have a dog in that fight. Really good stuff ....
  9. I guess I'm surprised at the idea that people in Wisconsin might not be able to tolerate sitting outside in 60 degree weather.
  10. I don't think it's accurate to say that Hardy has been getting a "free pass" here. His slump frequently has come up during discussions of Hart, Hall, and Kendall.
  11. And umps argue back because . . . why? What can they possibly gain from it? (Rhetorical questions, obviously. I know that it's about machismo as much as anything else.)
  12. I have to say that I cringe every time I hear about a Laynce Nix (7) or Cruz (17) HR, especially with Hart's recent woes. The idea that Cruz has more HR than Fielder or Braun at this point in the season is just plain silly....
  13. What is the over/under on Zambrano-related threads this season?
  14. Nothing like a little pressure. Unless he becomes an MLB star, this kid is going to be tagged a "failure" for the rest of his life. And he's going to have a lot of people rooting against him.
  15. Why not wait a little while and see what happens nearer to the trade deadline? I just don't see the urgency here to get some decent (but not sure-thing) prospects. Seems like you could do that any time you wanted....
  16. Maybe the hilliest course, locally? Might be worth it to get the cart.
  17. Yeah, if it were just a matter of Kendall lurking in the 8 hole, I don't think it would be that big of a deal. But it seems that the Brewers now have questionable bats at C, 3B, 2B, and RF. Throw in the pitcher's spot, and on any given night you have 5 spots in the order that just aren't very threatening.
  18. I don't know if I "like" him exactly, but I definitely don't despise him as much as is customary for BF.net folks.
  19. How refreshing is it to see elite athletes just goofing around and having fun, without all the posturing and histrionics?
  20. I think the Nats involved should ask for refunds from this guy.
  21. I see your point, but, to be fair: 1.) We're talking about 150 games, not 150 AB. (It's close to 600 AB.) 2.) I didn't intentionally choose the worst possible sample. I really just selected "last 365 days," which turned out to be the last 150 games.
  22. I guess it concerns me, over the long haul, to have a line up featuring: Hart (last 150 games): .250/.288/.437 Kendall (last 145 games): .229/.310/.297 Hall (last 120 games): .229/.295/.382 Unproven quantity at 2B subbing for Rickie
  23. I figured that maybe we were due for a stand-alone Corey thread, but feel free to move, etc., if there's something already out there. In his last 150 games (dating back to last season, obviously), Corey's numbers are: .250/.288/.437. I am not one to immediately hit the panic button after a bad month, but he's been mediocre at the dish for basically the past year. Are you worried about him, or do you think he'll work it out?
  24. Excellent news. Best of luck in the AL, Jake....
  25. Was that a Chico Escuela reference I heard?
