  1. I resolve to watch the Brewers in the World Series for the second time in my lifetime. No pressure.
  2. Miz will gain more command as he grows into his body. A repeatable motion will really help with this, so the cutter over the slider likely helps. With the depth of the rotation arms available, does it make sense to use Miz as a bulk reliever rather than as a starter? Two to three inning stints mean that he can get to 125 innings pitched and get into 50 games. As a starter, if he gets 5 innings a start he'll pitch those innings in 25 games. Maybe he gets more starts, or maybe he averages 6 innings (although that would surprise me). Affecting 25 more games and being able to go a bit more "all out" sounds like a good plan. As he grows into himself they can transition to a more traditional role. Of course, that would require a buy-in from Jake, as this could cost him money in arbitration down the road. Maybe it's time to buy in and extend him. There's risk in that, but...
  3. Watching that double play vs the Dodgers never gets old. Basically the only highlight in a four game series.
  4. No deal unless it brings in a starting outfielder with some power and young enough to have more upside. Go big or keep him; the Brewers have enough prospects.
  5. The Red Sox traded Hunter Dobbins, a likely rotation piece, so they still need starting pitching.
  6. I was just wondering if Koenig would be the kicker that would get a power-hitting outfielder if added to the upcoming Peralta trade. Perhaps from Boston...
  7. As I said elsewhere, teams will be very afraid of his injury history given his diabetes. If not for that they could chalk all of the injuries up to bad luck. I truly hope he can break out with the Brewers, but I wouldn't give up anything of value for him in a trade.
  8. Diabetics are more susceptible to injury than non-diabetics, and Mitchell has a significant injury history. If I were running a team (and that team would be in deep doo-doo), I might sign him to a minor league deal if he got released, but I would never give up anything of value for him. His talent is tantalizing, but his inability to play is a tad off-putting. Don't get me wrong, I really like his skill set...but, well, you know.
  9. It isn't peanuts to the A's. Why would they take a guy that they figure has no chance of ever producing? He's a sunk cost for the Brewers.
  10. Mitchell might have negative value at this point. Maybe Fisher.
  11. I'm using MLB Trade Simulator. An imperfect system, but still. The A's have no reason to deal Soderstrom; they are closer to contending than we might think. If you start with one of these you are likely looking at three others. Maybe one of these two and Patrick, but I'm not real keen on losing any potential starters at this point.
  12. This would be really expensive. Pratt and Pena expensive. At least.
  13. Made in center and Pratt at short. I know Made is really young so observations of his ability to stick at short are truly premature, but he didn't look like a major leaguer at all last year.
  14. The big-name signings by teams that are directly competing with the Brewers don't bother me like they used to...they are rarely as influential as we first assume. That said, adding a proven power outfield bat to this line-up would really add to my enjoyment of the off-season. I'm sure that the Brewers' management is focused on my enjoyment... Still want Buxton, even though he seems to want to stay with the Twinkies. (Back in the 1970s I had Twinkies and Coke for breakfast every day while in college. The Breakfast of Champions. Too bad Hostess changed the recipe for their cream filling.) That's Coca Cola, btw.
  15. My thought is that another team would insist on Pratt, as Pena seems iffier. I could be entirely wrong about that...it's happened before.
  16. If Pratt can be used to get a legit outfield bat (and by legit I mean all-star level), then fine. That'd most likely be along with one of the young rotation arms. Deal from strength to cover a weakness...or at least a deficiency.
  17. And if they want, the Brewers can rework Big Woo's deal to extend him to, say, three years at say $45mm total and put this year's deal at a lower rate. If he'd agree to it, anyhoo.
  18. Bauers could very well end up in a platoon with Vaughn. There is no guarantee that Vaughn will continue to produce at last year's level...in fact, the second half of his Brewer stint was about on a par with what Bauers was doing. No to Mears. Yes to Mitchell. Extend Turang.
  19. My guess is that the Brewers have trades that they would make for Peralta and Big Woo's return don't alter what they would need in return. Again, there is the trade deadline available to deal either or both if the season craps out.
